Mobinfo

Since you and your crew are great at programming I was wondering if there was interest on integrated the great but dead mod Mobinfo or something like it to your tooltip in nuI?

I can't see where there's much, if any, value in MobInfo anymore (which is largely why it is dead).

What do you need it for? (i.e. what features that it had do you no longer have?)

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for, but its a great addon nonetheless... LootDB.

I used to gather people's MobInfo data to create a massive database.

It WAS nice seeing what a mob that you moused over could drop and it's drop rate, etc. But it did take up a lot of memory...and then it stopped being maintained and I stopped trying to fix it or find workarounds for it. Been a long time now since I've messed with it.

LootDB is good for epic loot tables (as for a majority of items, they are fixed), but it doesn't do the same thing that MobInfo did.

Given that, I doubt Scott would want to do anything like it. Would be cool if someone re-wrote MobInfo and made an infopanel to show the loot info...but doubt anyone will take up that challenge I'm afraid.

That's actually an interesting idea.

I have to pipe in here as MobInfo was one of the 'lost' addons that really hurt imo. I love MobInfo for many many reasons. The first of which is what has already been stated. When you hovered over the mob you got a modified tooltip for that object that gave you stats on kill count, what it has dropped in the past, and at what rate, etc. But another very cool feature imo that I have not ever seen anywhere else, was the fact that when you moused over the mob it would color the name grey, green, yellow, orange, red in relation to the level related to yours. It would outline the tooltip in red, yellow, green (rather than the name) to show aggro relationships. To me it was by far the very best tooltip mod I have ever had and was very sad to see it finally go. So if there is anyway to get this to work I would be so grateful to whoever does. Even if the loot stuff does not stick the tooltip mods were by the best part of that addon for leveling my toons. Made it much easier to gauge a fight before it started.

Which is why I stated that it probably wasn't exactly what he was looking for, and it does show a lot more than just epic items.

I just remembered MobMap, which has been around for longer than I can remember. I use to use this and found it to be superior to MobInfo http://www.mobmap.de

You do know that nUI"s unit frames do this already, yes? Adding that to the tooltip can probably be done in nUI6. I'll look at it.

Yeah, I can never get loot db to work for me. I am not sure why, However, I am glad to see some discussion on Mobinfo, and it sounding like there is a want for it. Probably the most progress towards an update yet. Keep it up, lol

You could try out loot count http://www.wowinterface.com/download...LootCount.html
It was last updated for 3.2, it shows items and their drop rates when mousing over a mob but doesn't have a pre-built database. It does collect data from guildies who have the add-on though so it could be filled rather quickly if you get a couple people to install it.

It does? Where does it do this because I have never noticed it so at least to me it's not really obvious.

Yes -- it uses the same mechanism the default UI uses for it... it colors the mob level in the unit frame using red, yellow, green or gray for the number based on the mob's difficulty relative to your own level.

It doesn't color mob names because those are used to indicate the unit class (pally, mage, etc.)

Ok, I'll have to look at that tonight when I'm on my 77 pally and see if I can find that. And, yeah, I do like the colored names by class, makes it easier to identify which ones need to go down first in groups.

Would this mean that you are considering adding the "mobinfo" to your nUI?

Not exactly... but I do like the idea of an info panel plugin that shows you information about the mob you're currently fighting. I dunno... it's a half formed idea atm.
