heh, sorry - Blp files

(Yes, I know, this is the wrong discussion for this thread to be in, but it was never going to get any views in the graphics-modification area).

How can I open/convert .blp files so that I can edit them in Photoshop?

I found a few programs that can do it for WC3, but they dont work for WoW.

Listed in this thread:

BLP2 Tools - http://www.cosmosui.org/vjeux/ - This allows you to open BLP files, which store the artwork / music for WoW.

/edit Moved back to the proper forum. It'll get seen there, even if only by me.

any other tool? converting to bmp then back to blp always produces errors. Is there a recommended conversion practice. what to convert to, then how to convert back? Maybe a good how-to guide?

You'll want to work in tga. Save in 32-bit (24-bit color + alpha) and make sure its edges are a power of 2: 8 64 128 256 512 etc

Unfortunately those tools only convert square TGAs to BLPs (but convert non-square BLP->TGA just fine). Wish I knew of one that could convert rectangles.

gimp 2.2 is a good free tga editor

I have been referred to the vjeux directory (see link above) before (for other tools involved in the making of Mods), and so far I have never been able to access that link. I always get a 404 error when I try to click on that link (since Mid-Oct).

I also see that Curse Gaming had an old copy on their web site, but when I tried to download it, that also failed (as if the file didn't exist any more). Where else can I obtain a blp2 -> tga converter or other tool that will allow me to edit images in .blp format?

Nothing on this? Can anyone else get to this directory, or is it closed off for everyone? Is there an alternate .BLP editing/converting tool that anyone would recommend?

Cosmos revamped their site it seems. I can't find that specific tool but this one may work too:
http://tech.wc3campaigns.com/index.php?page=downloads

Unfortunately the best part of the link in the previous posts was the BLP2Viewer which let you browse the textures without extracting/converting them. I don't think this link will help for that, tho the ability to convert non-square TGAs to BLPs sounds awesome.

edit: Oh curse-gaming is back up. Looks like someone posted the BLP2Viewer there: http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=180
