spell casting bar sometimes missing

Sometimes I don't watch the lag bar and just jam the spell key. The casting bar seems to disappear sometimes when I do this. Also if I cast a spell and immediately it gets pushed back, the casting bar seems to disappear for a short time. It seems like maybe the push back causes the casting time to go negative and nUI doesn't know what to do except hide the bar until it goes back to positive. The default casting bar doesn't seem to have these problems.

I'm completely rewriting how casting bars are handled for nUI6, hopefully that will address this issue.

Since I am a raider, is there a way to disable the built in cast bar? I want to replace it with quartz.

What is it in Quartz that the nUI bar doesn't offer you ? Perhaps it can be introduced as part of the cast bar features in nUI 6.

There isn't a feature that makes quartz better. It's just the reliablity of the cast bar. Until the issues is resolved, I need a reliable casting bar.

Hmm, reading that thread that you linked, it says that the issue was corrected. However, I have the most current release version of nui+ and am running into the same problem of my casting bar disappearing.

I'm not sure whether it will fully disable the cast bar but in the Layouts/HudLayouts folder there are castbar lua files for each of the hud layouts and several parts of the cast bar have an enabled flag. You could try setting each of these to false and see if that resolves it for you.

When I was raiding myself I never really noticed the bar disappearing as I was usually too busy healing or fighting. The only time I ever noticed it was when testing out addons and other bugs. Probably because unless I am looking at the cast bar I don't notice it.

I'm not aware of any reliability issues in the current casting bar and haven't heard anyone mention it in a very long time.

I play a lock and a mage, timing casts is everything for your dps. It becomes especially difficult when your cast speed creeps up on the gcd.

And I don't have a good enough internal clock to do the timing in my head.

I'm having the same problem as described in the first posting, my casting bar is disappearing when chain casting, really throwing off the casting sequence. I spend more of my time staring at the casting bar than anything, casting times, gcd, etc.

I have finally figured out the disappearing bar, it had nothing to do with chain casting, it's pushback that causes the bar to disappear and freak out.

For the last week or so I been leveling my lowbies and running my mage and the cast bar disappears constantly.
My toons will be casting but no bar when they are mostly being hit on but at times it will happen on the first cast. If you change the camera angle with the mouse the cast bar will re-appear.

nUI's casting bar has latency, for what it's worth... that's the blue bar at the bottom the "leads" the actual casting bar by your latency period. When the latency bar clears, you can cast again.

As for the disappearing bar, I'm not sure why some people are still experiencing this. I have not seen it since the "fix" I put in some time ago. However, since I'm deep into the code base for nUI6, I'm not going to invest the time in trying to resolve that in nUI5 given it will be replaced fairly soon anyway.
