Knowledge is power

Hi, new to the community and since I started playing I have been interested in creating my own UI. I have become fairly talented with Discord and certain other Mods that other people have created. But now I would like to step up to the plate and take a shot at it. However, I pretty much lack the knowledge to even know where to begin. I know its a long road before i could actually make something remotely useful. So, since everything starts somewhere I was hoping I could get a gentle nudge in the right direction of where I should start my knowledge base to eventually be able to write a UI that doesnt cause my computer, blizzards servers and the power company in my state and the surrounding four states to explode.
