Tab Target Range limit

I remember reading... somewhere... that you can change the range limit for "tab targeting". For example, you can tap <tab> all night long, but nothing outside of this preset range be targeted... unless you edit a certain file and change that number? Anyone remember or know how to do this, and would this effect the /target command? Also, is this function ok with Blizzard?

I don't know about the Tab targetting, but the /target command will check all "visible" units.
