Yep. One of the big reasons I keep mine shut off is it likes to detect punks on another continent, but not if I'm standing (literally) right next to one.

I don't know why it showed up in pink in the "small" list above your chat frame, but the name does look to be class colored in the large-ish warning text on your screen.

Level -1 means Carbonite was unable to ascertain the level, most commonly this is due to the player being more than ten levels above whoever saw him/her.
