The number shown in this image is almost always wrong, right now it says 1 but there is no new posts.

I believe it isn't taking into account the forums you have filtered out; at least, that's my recollection from when this was a new feature...

I've noticed this happen sometimes when I open an unread thread, but neglect to click "Mark Forums Read".
