had the same problem on vista sp1, try to run the monion.jar out of the install folder (C:\Program Files\MMOUI Minion\minion.jar) it should work on vista without problems. (it worked for me this way)

Setting the working directory of your Minion shortcut to the directory you installed it to will also fix this.

Shirik already commented this will be fixed in future releases ;-)
