This is an addon which hopes to bring fruition to an idea our Iriel had a few years ago. With changes to the game's API, something like this is now easier to achieve. The idea is a ring which fills radially instead of straight across, and which does not deal with multiple textures. You can then use these rings to display health/mana/etc. for yourself, your party, your target... So far, Zork's implementation is only configurable through the lua code (I hear he's looking for a helper to do the GUI bit). Through the lua code, though, you can have whole rings or partial (arcs). You can define the thickness of the ring, even making it a whole sphere. You can create rings for any unit, and you can place them anywhere on your screen. He offers many suggestions in the addon's description.
