Best Method for Creating an "Item" button?

Trying to create a mini task bar that has your current quest items in it.
Needs to able to use the items during combat. I update the contents on bag and zone events.
Looks like we have a lot of options nowadays for creating the actual buttons. I'm looking for a recommendation on which frame template to inherit to create the buttons with the least effort.

I tried a number of different methods with some success, but I'm wondering what the best practice would be for this.
