A report.

Ok I have been using nUI for a few weeks now. First let me say it is awesome,I love it and I don't know how I played WoW this long with out it. First I would like to report that the 5.06.09 patch has apparantly removed the "attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value" error at line 214 in nUI_ChatFrame.lua that I was getting on login. Kudos. The bad news is that the error has been replaced by another seemingly random login error. The following is the error I am getting.

In addition I have found another error that I am able to reproduce everytime. I have a baby Prot Warrior and when I attempted to kill eyechekayee or whatever the white lion quest is in the Barrons after cleaning the random mobs around his spawnpoint I hit the horn and he spawns; at this point I hit Victory Rush and get the error. When I first got the error I cleared it and abandoned the quest before I copied it out to notepad. When I tried to reproduce the error I was not able to reproduce it until I logged out and then accepted the quest and then cleared mobs then blowed the horn then hit victory rush. I will be honest I don't know if it's nUI that is causing the error. I have ALOT of addons running and up to this point the only errors that I have been getting is the login errors above and they are random. Following is the error from the Barrons. I am not a programmer so this is greek to me if its not from nUI just post it in this thread and I try to figure out which addon is causing it. Thanks again for the nUI addon it really is a great UI.

Ok updated to to 5.06.10 tonight after it came out. I am no longer getting the ..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: error on random logins. Now I am getting ..\FrameXML\FloatingChatFrame.lua line 784: error on random logins.

Please note that my login errors have been constant through each patch. On 5.06.07 and 5.06.08 (Plus) I got the ..\AddOns\nUI\Integration\nUI_ChatFrame.lua line 214: 99.9% of the time and only once I got the ..\FrameXML\FloatingChatFrame.lua line 784: error on random logins. Note that I am using every character class in both horde and allience factions on 25 different servers. On patch 5.06.09 (plus) I only ever got the ..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: error on random logins confirmed with every class in both factions on multiple servers. Now with patch 5.06.10 (Plus) I am only getting the ..\FrameXML\FloatingChatFrame.lua line 784: error. Each patch IS reducing the overall occurance of the login error. in the .07 patch I was getting the error on about 40% of logins. Now it only happens about 1% of logins.(I have only been using this new patch for a few hours I'll see tommorrow if the percentage goes up any) Also note that I jump from toon to toon and server to server for hours at a time taking a census on each faction and then jumping to the next server. Also to be noted that I have NEVER set any Keybindings on any toon and only have made a handful of Macros with the primary ones being a macro that opens the Macro screen and macro that starts Census+. I.E. /macro and /census+ take . So I am replicating the error quite frequently. Hope this helps if it doesn't just tell me to shutup. Following is the error I got with 5.06.10. Only one error out of 100 logins with 50 different toons. It was a Dwarf Priest not that I think it matters. Brand new with not 1 second of playtime on him.(First ever login)

Ok I have gotten 2 more errors both the ..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: attempt to index local 'options' (a nil value)
This is with the 5.06.10 (Plus) version. and both in less than 20 logins.

I could be crazy but it seems like I get the login errors more when I am in a major city with ALOT toons online. like in Org or Stormwind. When it's really late at night and the servers have a light load I rarely see any login errors, but during the day under heavy load I get them alot more frequently.

Wow.exe crash

Please let me know if I am not giving you the right information or if my information is invalid, already known or not related to nUI (Plus).

Rathemice

P.S. I don't know if it has anything to do with the error but just before the error came up I saw someone logged into skype and the program reported it to me when this happens I can see the skype bubble window kind of flash in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I have not noticed this causing any errors in wow before but I thought I would mention it anyway.

This is the exact error sent to Blizz.

logging into Darkspear Realm on Allience side with a level one pally. nUI 5.06.10 (Plus) caused a known error ..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: attempt to index local 'options' (a nil value) I typed /console reloadui the fatal exception occurred after the UI reloaded and as I pressed the left mouse button to clear the nUI dialog box.

Well the error message itself is a known problem that seemed to have been fixed but guess not if you're still getting it. But the crash out, I don't know if that has been reported much if at all.

Rathemice,

The WoW error... those errors are specifically for letting you know that there is an issue with your software or hardware. However, the only way to distinguish between a hardware/software issue client side and an addon related issue is to play the game without any addons installed whatsoever. This is also exactly what the Wow technicians will tell you... delete the cache folder and move (not copy) your Interface and WTF folders to your desktop. Log in and play the game for awhile (with no addons) to see if you get another Error #132.

If you get another Error #132 without addons installed, it's advised to copy/paste your latest error text file (which you will find inside of the games root directory in a folder aptly called Errors) along with a copy/paste of your DXDiag report into a post over on the Tech Support forum. The techs have a special tool they will use to read your error report, and they can help you track down what the issue is with your machine.

Thanks for the info. I am certain that this was a skype related issue. I think that skype was accessing the same memory area that Wow.exe was using to reload the UI. This is the only time that Wow has crashed on me ever with or without addons. Even though I am still getting the ..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: attempt to index local 'options' (a nil value) error on about 30% of my logins tonight the #132 error has only ever happened once. I really only get the login error on servers that have more than 1000 players active per faction or 2000 or more players active total on the server. I get the error way more when logging to major cities with tons of toons around me, but this is not the only places I get them. And one more thing that I have noticed is that the error ALWAYS happens right as Recount has just loaded and placed itself in the proper frame in the bottom right hand corner OR just before the frame is placed there and Recount is in the middle of the screen like half loaded in a small frame, too small for all the icons to fit properly. If you want a screen shot of it like this let me know and the next time it happens I'll get one. This error is not bothering me really, I am just trying to help you guys track it down. If you have enough information and you want me to stop posting about it just let me know.

Yes, absolutely keep posting!

However, no one on these forums has the proper tool to read those wow errors. I would think the most important thing though is figuring out with an absolute certainty that it is indeed an addon causing the error.. and the only way to do this would be to play without addons installed.

You can also try to temporarily find other addons that do the same as your current addons. Like Recount for example, you could try Skada for awhile and see if you still get that error.

Just trying to toss out some ideas for you. The biggest step in troubleshooting issues is to rule out the obvious suspects weather it be addons or your hardware drivers. I've seen a lot of those WoW errors get fixed by merely updating drivers (not saying that's your issue.. just saying its good to update so that you can rule those out).

I got ya. But let me add that over the last 20 some days I have logged into WoW a minimum of 750 times, and only ever got the #132 error once really its not worth me trying to track that one down(unless it becomes a problem child) I will try skada and keep working on the nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236 error I am getting. Since I am not actually playing wow with this account I am just taking a census on various different servers I am able to replicate the error often enough to be able to notice what is going on when I get it(from a users point of view anyway) and its not getting in my way at all,I just /console reloadui and smash my census macro and flip over to my other box and go on with whatever I am doing. Thanks for all the info, I'll keep you posted.

..\AddOns\nUI\Bars\nUI_MicroMenu.lua line 236: attempt to index local 'options' (a nil value)
This error is actually a new one that showed up after I fixed the nUI_ChatFrame.lua problem at line 214 but it is similar in nature and actually something I've been discussing in another thread.

The issue is, more or less, that WoW is reporting that saved variables have been loaded, but is actually returning a "nil" value for part or all of nUI's saved variables and that leads to this particular error.

Now that the key binding issue appears to be settling down, I'll be focusing on figuring out the fix to this load sequence issue next.

That said, I don't believe the Lua loader problem you are having is directly related to the 218 error you got. Odds are a conflict with Skype, but I don't know that for sure.

OK for the sake of argument I moved my Interface and WTF folders out to the desktop and deleted the contents of my Cache folder. I then loaded up WoW and created 20 new toons (10 allies and 10 horde) on 10 different servers . After entering the game with each toon and setting the interface up I exited WoW and installed nUI (Plus) 5.06.10 and CensusPlus 4.2.2.

I then logged back into the first toon and the screen was blank, no error just blank screen. I logged out and back in and everything was fine.

I got the same error (blank screen) on my sixth login(third server). I don't know if it matters but both toons were night elves in shadowglen. First one a Hunter the second a Warrior.

I then proceeded to run a census on all ten servers twice, giving me a total of 40 different logins throughout the night. I didn't have any more trouble after those first two blank screens on servers 1 and 3.

Below are screenshots of the blank screens. Notice that on the first server that the Census Plus Button Icon is not yet loaded around the minimap and in the second screen shot it is there.

I will try to get more logins in tommorrow and see if I can replicate any more of the errors I was getting before.

Hmm, that is interesting. Most of my characters are Night Elves so it is altogether possible that it's class related or location related if any of my other classes were affected. I'll have to run through my posts on the subject and see what they were.

Edit:
Okay, the last two posts I made on this blank frames regard at start up were a Night Elf Hunter in the starting area and a Night Elf Druid in the zone after Goldshire that I can never remember the name for rofl. Might be sheer coincidence though that those two characters are hardly played and this was a fresh install I was testing on.

I've gotten that before. Most of the time the error window is static-blank; you can't tell it to go away; yet theirs nothing their.

I've noticed it more on fast-switching characters; i have a tendency to be click happy and have some odd things memorized as far as where i can click to try to make it go faster than it should; so i'll camp, select the toon & hit enter game typically before the picture can change to the new character lol [Honestly have no idea why it happens.. meh]

A side-step to this happening; I would suggest - Download the "Addon Control Panel" .. one of the few addons I always tell raiders to use; so we dont havta wait for them to reload wow cuz they left questhelper on or whatever... BUT - IF you get that to happen, you can hit your escape key, hit the "Addons" Button and then hit the "Reload UI" from ACP's menu options - always fixes the problem for me.

Ok in continuing with this today I logged in to wow 80 times. Heres what I got. Remember yesterday I deleted the cache files and moved my WTF and Interface directories to the desktop. The only addons I have loaded are nUI (plus) 5.06.10 and CensusPlus 4.2.2

None of these PC's have been played, most are still standing on the spawn point that a new PC is created on. All have accepted the first quest from the NPC standing right in front of them on creation. All have the interface setup exactly the same way, with the same video and sound settings.

On my very first login with a Nelf hunter I got a blank screen. Same toon as yesterday.

On my 3rd login with a Tauren shaman I got a blank screen.

On my sixth login with a Nelf warrior I got a blank screen. Same toon as yesterday.

On my 13th login with a human warrior I got a blank screen.
*********Edit******** The 13th login should read human paladin NOT human warrior.

At this point I started keeping track of how long I was logged into the previous server because I noticed that if the census was a short one(light load on the previous login) I would get the blank screen on the next login(fast switching of toons) I found that the error is much more likely to occur when I was logged into the previous toon OR toon on a different server for less than 2.5 minutes AND I received something in the chat window(server message like someone attacking the area, Census+ responses to who requests or people chatting on channel 1) I find that this is not 100% but a VERY high likelyhood of causing the blank screen. All of todays blank screen errors followed this pattern EXCEPT the very first login of the night AND the 77th login. Even though I received who responses from censusplus I was on the previous server for nearly 20 minutes.

I logged in 27 more times and ran a census with out incident.

On my 41st login I did only 1 thing that was to change the font in the chat window to 12pnt. I did this for the next 20 logins changing the font on each of the 2 toons on all 10 servers. To simulate fastswitching of toons.

On my 50th login I got a blank screen with a tauren warrior. There were people chatting on this server at the time I logged in.

On my 57th login with a human warrior I got a blank screen. Goldshire was under attack at the time I logged in and the server was sending a response on the defense channel.

At my 60th login all the fonts had been changed and I started running censuses again.

At my 77th login with human warrior I got a blank screen. Same toon as the 57th login.

I should also note that even though I set up random toons on all the servers there were no priests, druids, undead, gnomes or dwarfs setup. Go figure I didn't notice it till tonight tommorrow I will set some up specifically to throw them up in the mix.
