After reading a lot of comments from you, I'd be interested in the real consequences as a sum up. Till now we've got:

- mundocani who doesn't want to devellop any longer (Outfitter and Group Calendar) 'cause of #5

- cck who doesn't want to remove his donate-buttons ingame

- carbonite which is still buyable on the offical page but has been removed from curse ? Are there any statements yet ? Will the complete addon be for free ? Even if they want to do...they had to rewrite some parts of the code because of #2. Will the keep on selling it on their page "illegaly" ?

- questhelper which won't be get greater updates from now on and is "dead"

- nUI aka spiel2001 who noticed a huge decrease of his donations. What will happen to nUI, did I missed it ?

- cairenn who try to help the author's with the new "donate plz" pop up (which is a little bit annoying sry). Are there any numbers if this helps ?

Did I missed anything ? Any other mods which won't be develloped any longer ? Any reaction of blizz after the huge protest ?

nUI soldiers on... and I continue to fight Bliz' rank stupidity on the subject... but I will not punish my users for Bliz's myopic point of view.

I did receive two donations yesterday via the new buttons at WoWI... so, yeah... they help at least some. I'm not sure how many downloads I had yesterday though as I do not track that data. So no clue what percentage of downloads it was.

I thought he said that he was going to keep it updated with bug fixes and had a couple more features he's been working on to implement. He only said that he didn't think he would touch it when the next expansion came.

Do you keep accurate statistics on new users that download v.s. people that are updating your mod? If you are not keeping track of individual download patterns so you can separate who's downloaded previous versions and donated with those that are downloading new versions and are not donating, the numbers you claim are completely useless.

I'll assume you didn't see this before you posted...

I'll repeat in a hurry here, as I did on the Bliz board... I am *NOT* complaining... just posting hard numbers. I'll also add that a lot of people have not updated yet, so they're still seeing the old language and I changed the language again last night to as not to cross BLiz's line and get sued. I *strongly* suspect it has a lot further to fall on a daily average before I know the real impact.

There's really nothing about those numbers that's useless and whether they downloaded for the first time or upgraded is equally irrelevant. The numbers are off sharply after I made the change required to comply. It's not rocket science after that.

There's zero chance more people are going to acquire the old version with the old language than those who are now replacing it with the new language. There's no reason to anticipate there's a skew that would make the low numbers attributable to anything other than the changed language.

In addition, people who have already donated get their updates from me via direct e-mail, so I seriously doubt any of them are in the download numbers though some of them are in the donation numbers given quite a few choose to donate more than once.

The cause-effect relationship is fairly clear. Prior to the announcement, people downloaded and received a program that specifically stated it survived on donations and specifically asked for them and a good many choose to donate. Now they are downloading a program that does not specifically ask for donations, so they aren't.

It's not difficult to comprehend. My intent in posting the numbers was only to provide a measuring stick to the change.

The interesting thing will be to see what sort of impact our new overlay will cause.

Also, right now isn't really the time to gauge, since there is so much discussion about donations etc, due to the new policy. The real tests will be when the furor has died down.

An interesting post in the WoW UI forum from a poster named "Mg" -- emphasis is my own...

One thought. The mods the people make based on blizzard allowing it have helped more than hurt i think.

Blizzard made a post on the EU side stating they wanted input to help them make WoW less dependent on add-ons. The problem i see with that is time to change things.

The Add-on developers are able to make changes far faster than blizzard could, if they take back control of mods how will that effect the game. They cannot account for everyone's personal needs or preferences.

I play one handed and the mods help me play it, blizzard doesn't care about how i can play it however i've worked with mod developers who can take things into consideration. Healbot mod is one case, this developer has taken many of my ideas and put them into play very fast.

Blizzard i think in the end is hurting the efforts of add-on developers.

WHO CARES if the mod developer is making a few bucks? It's not blizzards tax problem.
WHO CARES if someone is giving money to the mod developer?
If you don't like the advertisement, DON'T USE the mod....

*IF* that post is true, then Bliz is intentionally taking a stance that is hostile to addons and intended to drive away professional modders.

I would take that post with a fairly large grain of salt unless that poster can produce the actual quoted material with date / etc.

Looking through various blue trackers on EU side, I'm not seeing it.

I might be blind, however, but still.

Yeah... I have asked directly for a copy/paste and link... but thought I would bring it here to see if anyone else came up with it. I'm at work, so surfing to see if I can find it is not an option.

Click the "Source" link in his quoted poster's link. It directs you to the EU Healers forums, where that particular Blue poster started the thread. I need to go to the store/grab lunch, if you haven't found it by the time I get back, I'll link to the posts with source.

*The date of the Blue post was March 13th, iirc.

Frankly I don't see it ever happening. People will always predict doom and gloom during these "crises" and it seems that the internet is a wonderful place to harbour these conspiracy theorists. I personally just see this as Blizzard asking what healers would like to be built into the default UI, but maybe I'm not "reading between the lines" of Blizzards evil plan

Nah... I think he's overstating it, too. There's at least a tiny bit of that in there, but that's even a stretch imo.
