Water problems on PTR

I had a slight problem after updating with the new patch today, version 4.0.1.13033
http://s.wowinterface.com/images/sty...tach/jpg.gif33.http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/a...1&d=1285446547

The screenshots were taken with only nUI installed, it happened on all chars, have more screenies if you wish. It was most disorientating riding round SW with this happening.

What is the problem with the water ? Lack of it sometimes ? If that is the case I have been having that problem all through beta and ptr before nUI was even set up to run with it so it's not a nUI problem as such. Now whether it is a memory problem and nUI is taking just that bit too much may be resolvable when nUI 6 is ready as I am sure that will have a smaller footprint.

Go into the Video options for WoW and turn down the detail of water effects to the middle or low. It's a known bug with the servers on Beta and the PTR last I was aware.

it was the double image of my char, pet and the terrain that was unusual.
I reduced the water effects and its good now.

I am new to this testing and when I forget to try things out it is not laziness its inexperience

That's never a problem... all input is always appreciated and we all start out not knowing what we're doing and learning from there.

Experience is simply defined as the ability to recognize a mistake while you're making it again.

Why is this only a problem when nUi is running though? I have the same problem and as soon as I disable nUI it goes away.

It could be related to graphics loading of the GPU... the graphics load with nUI is higher than without it.

Seeing same issue as well.. Setting Water Settings to Low fixes it, but seems like something that should be looked into

I'm not sure how nUI could have any bearing on that other than it perhaps increasing the load on the GPU or memory. nUI does *not* interact with the 3D world.

I honestly don't know a fix for this... I'm all ears if anyone has any idea/comments on the subject.

Yeah, Sortof strange and could still just be a Blizzard bug.

According to one of my guildies, it's a blizz bug. I have it too, on an intel iMac.

Since it doesn't happen with no addons, but does happen with just nUI, it appears to me to be a nUI bug. The best I can figure is with the new water texures, the reflections and ripple effects are being overlaid and aren't being scaled when nUI scales the rest of the viewport. Or I could be completely wrong.

EDIT- I tested this theory by disabling all addons and installing Sunn Viewport. Running only this viewport scaling addon also causes the weird reflection effects.

EDIT2 - a quick Blizzard Forums search for "viewport water" shows several posts of people pointing out that any addon that resizes the viewport gets the weird water textures. Everything *except* the reflections scales properly.

One interesting thing that I saw, in Garadar. I was standing on the hill near the flight master, and close to one of the downward paths, right up against the short wooden "pillar" topped with a brazier. The pillar and brazier were repeated just beyond the "real" one. The lake was beyond that, so I'm pretty sure it was related to the "water" problem (and it did go away when I switched that setting to "low").

There was a similar thread on the WoW forums and I wanted to bring this to your attention.

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...580175&sid=1#7

Apparently it's an issue with Viewport addons, so any addon that adjusts the screen you see through will make this an issue.

Ah... okay... while I'm technically correct that nUI doesn't interact with the 3D world, it does alter the viewport into the world, so that would explain it. Will have to keep an eye on this problem though I suspect it's going to require a Blizz fix to address it.

They know, and it'll be fixed if it wasn't already when they did rolling restarts earlier.

Environments
  • Resizing the game window while in windowed mode makes bodies of water disappear in game.
