Massive crash

Not sure why but after following the directions to the T nUI when running along in WOW causes my entire system to crash and do an emergency shutdown. So i go rid of nUI but now when i run my old Interface i have 3 Skada windows open, 2 labeled nUI Skada 1 and nUI Skada 2. Tried deleting the old skada files and redoing it but still end up with 3 windows. WTF...

If you go into the options for skada it should let you delete the extra windows.

The question is why it is making your computer crash. What type of system are you using ? Maybe using nUI just pushes you over the edge of unplayability.

Its most defiantly not my system, i normally run fraps, WoW, vent, have Pandora up and going and run at about 10% system capacity. The times I’ve had nUI crash my computer was once changing the UI scale and once using the random dungeon finder. Got rid of nUI and everything other then the Skada issues has gone away.

As for that, before i ran nUI i changed the WTF and Interface folders and added .saved so i could easily switch back.

i run a Alienware area 51 x58
i7-920 2.66Ghz
and Vista ultimate
dual nvidia gts 250

I don't believe nUI is directly responsible for your system crash. Period. There are over a half million nUI downloads and if it was causing people's systems to crash the volume of screaming would be deafening.

That said, it would appear nUI is a catalyst in your problem, but I assure you the problem exists with or without nUI. If I had to fathom a guess, I would say its an issue related to memory management as nUI5 does aggressively use memory.

The system wouldn't go into emergency shutdown for a memory error; that only happens when the CPU is overheated.

If there was a memory error, the system would just freeze up

I'd check the cpu cooler for dust bunnies and such (nUI has some elements that increase cpu useage like the unit frames and so on).

Actually, memory errors can and will causes panic shutdowns, particularly if and when they cause a critical driver to fail. The infamous BSOD.

Several years back I used to get very regular system reboots/shutdowns when playing graphically superior games. I could use the computer for hours doing mundane boring stuff, browsing, using office software and the like but within 5 to 30 minutes of logging into any 3D game it would just reboot or shutdown the computer.

It took me a while to see the pattern so I went through messages on websites for similar occurences and they all tied to some system instability so I went through my more recent purchases for the computer and found out that the motherboard, processor and memory were not fully compatible with each other. The moment I made the change to that .. the processor was the odd one out in this case .. the problem went away.

So, another question would be .. any recent purchases to the system ? Have the old one you can test with to see if the problem exists there also ?

Not a recent upgrade but when I purchased the computer I bought RAM separately (of course because it was cheaper), so that could be the issue. Like I said I have never had this issue before so nUI could be the deciding factor in a memory failure. I do love the set-up and look of nUI and would love to use it so thank you all for the suggestions and I will look into the memory to see if it is actually fully compatible.

Run Memtest for aprox 6 to 8 hours (per stick if you have more than one stick of RAM). I don't recommend using the one that comes with Vista or 7.. it doesn't run the diagnostic test long enough.
