Seriously, I think I've gotten too helpful around here. It occurred to me on my way home today that by just writing things for people instead of helping them do it themselves, I'm basically just giving this guy a 40 every day:



If you want to announce who the buff was cast on, then instead of announcing it immediately when the spell is cast, loop over all the group members, and look for the buff from the caster on each one of them. When you find it, then call the announce function with the target as the third argument.

I'm a teacher, and if you just spoon-feed people the answers - it doesn't matter how much explaining goes along with it - all they remember (most of the time, at least) is that they got the answer.

Well, I generally assume people asking for "help" with code actually want to learn how to do things themselves, and will actually look through the code I provide and try to figure out how it works.... unfortunately that assumption has proven to be quite false lately, so I guess I'm going to have to cut back on the provision of Actual Working Code and force these lazy bums to actually earn their beers.

Usually if I help people I rather provide them with links to the docs that are relevant to what they want to achieve, and yes Phanx, I too think you've started to be too helpful, you basically throw fully functional and sometimes lengthy pieces of code (I've seen you throw out 500 lines drycoded quite often recently).

And I don't really think it's good practice either, they don't really learn anything by copy/pasting, and when their released product gets an error it will just pile up in the outdated addons category because they have no idea what went wrong nor how to fix it.
