Do you have another map addon installed in addition to Carbonite?

Or are you talking about Carbonite's minimized world map?

A little hard to help when we don't have more information.

In the options, under the Map tab, check "Hide maximized map when ESC or map toggle (M) key pressed". That should be what you want.

In the options, under the Social & Punks tab, uncheck "Use enhanced social window".
