Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day. Veterans Day. Armistice Day. Poppy Day.

Whatever you call it, remember those who died and are dying
for our freedom and the freedom of others.
Freedom isn't free, and in war there are no unwounded soldiers.

Whether 100 years ago, 50 years ago, yesterday, today or tomorrow:

We won't forget. Thank you.

Thumbs up

As an ex Tanker for the US army..It was very nice to check for updates and see this.

Its always nice to see people who take a min and remember what some of the things in life cost. Like freedom, government , well fare of life...and so on...

Thank you for posting this=)

I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for myself, my Dad, and my Grandad. We all served at one time or another, and I saw what war did to both of them.

As I stand at attention in front of that monument today, I will think of them and silently say thanks to you again, Cairenn.

A veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to their government for an amount up to, and including, their life. That is beyond honor. There are way too many people these days who no longer remember that fact.

A Pittance Of Time
Written by Terry Kelly © Jefter Publishing - SOCAN
They fought and some died for their homeland.
They fought and some died, now it's our land.
Look at his little child; there's no fear in her eyes.
Could he not show respect for other dads who have died?
Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest, may we never
forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time.
God forgive me for wanting to strike him.
Give me strength so as not to be like him.
My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips,
My throat wants to bawl out, my tongue barely resists.
But two minutes I will bide.
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest.
May we never forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time.
Read the letters and poems of the heroes at home.
They have casualties, battles, and fears of their own.
There's a price to be paid if you go, if you stay.
Freedom's fought for and won in numerous ways.
Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls all over.
May we never forget, our young become vets.
At the end of the line,
It's a pittance of time.
It takes courage to fight in your own war.
It takes courage to fight someone else's war.
Our peacekeepers tell of their own living hell.
They bring hope to foreign lands that hate mongers can't kill.
Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who go over.
In peacetime our best still don battle dress
And lay their lives on the line.
It's a pittance of time
In peace may they rest,
Lest we forget why they died.
Take a pittance of time.

Thank you all-- it means a lot to me and every Veteran here.

‎Two of the hardest things I ever did; watching my brother take his last breath in my arms and saying "make it home to tell my family I fought bravely", and handing the flag to a mother as we laid her son to rest.

I will never forget the men and women who stood on the front lines of Iraq with courage and strength. Each day the scars bleed reminding me of the battlefield-- I remember those beside me who grabbed my shoulder and said "we got your back brother."

Most of all-- I thank my family for believing in me even when I shut myself out from the world.

Thank You.

I'm not a vet. My father and grandfather didn't serve. We are a family of civilians however we are a family who does not forget on this day what freedom means and what freedom costs.

Thank you to all of you veterans who have made our very lives possible.

I am a proud Canadian and I thank you for remembering on this day.

Lest we forget. To the brave and the strong: cheers.

On the eve of my first tour, it is heartening to see posts like this in a community that I have been invested in long before I made the decision to serve. Thank you for your support.
