Font Issue in Chat

Not sure if this is NUI or WoW itself but I use the new IM style chat setting and I also have font size set small (Size 12 instead of 14 on chat settintgs)

Most text is fine but when a user logs in or out that is either a friend or in guild as I have login notices for them turned on, the login notice is displayed but the font is corrupt. it looks almost like 2 messages are displayed on the same line and neither is readable.

If I set the font back to 14 pitch everything is fine and the font corruption seems to go away.

It also is only login messages, the pitch 12 font is fine on every other line.

Anyone else seen this issue?

DId you have two chat windows... one for normal chat and one for conversations overlapping each other? If they don't have a background color, that could be a problem.

I have not changed the default settings for NUI and even tried deleting my WTF folder to make sure I had not configured some weird combination of settings that was making me crazy.

Also like I said if I set the font back to default size 14, the issue is gone, put it back to 12 and it is back, it is really odd and has only been happening since the latest patch.

Hmm, when you say you switch to 14 and it goes away, what if you switch back to 12 does it come back ? It's possible just changing font sizes gets the chatframe to rewrite itself and thus stop the overwriting issue.

I'll see if I can get this to happen myself as I have those alerts running too.

No not that easy, it comes back when I set back to Font Size 12

I am not sure why it happens, it is just one of those weird things.

It could very well just be me as I have not seen this reported in any other thread, but I hope you can replicate. I would love some indication I am not insane

I'm wondering if it isn't a bad font file.

I thought the same, but if that were the case you would think those characters would always be a mess, but if I type the same thing so it appears in my chat log it is fine, it only seems to happen when it is a game message.

I suppose it could still be a font issue. Is there a way anyone knows of to check that possibility?

Can you post a screen shot please? Just use the paperclip icon in the message editor, or scroll down to the "Manage Attachments" button. I need to see what you're seeing so I can wrap my head around it.

Here it is, notice the odd lines between letters not sure what it is, but upon review it happens only for people I have real ID friended, everyone else is fine.

Yeah... I see exactly what it is that you're referring to and they definitely looks to me like a bad font. I'm not sure how or why that would happen though.

Are you using any mods to modify your fonts either game wide or in chat?

I see that sometimes in WiM, but not always (or a lot). I think it happens when the (WiM) window gets resized or moved, feels more like a gfx bug then tho resizing it again doesn't fix it.

I run a gaggle of mods, but I deleted WTF and ran just NUI and it still happens, I have not tried with nothing because my play style has become so ingrained into NUI I can not play anymore with the base UI.

The mods I run other than NUI do not play with the chat window that I am aware of.

I run NUI, Carbonite, Auctioneer, Skada, EquipCompare, Bagnon, Critline, Decursive, GFW Feedomatic, LightHeaded and Parrot.

That set pretty much gives me everything I could want as I do not raid really... never had the time or desire to grind for that much gear.

Just out of curiosity, why do you use GFW Feedomatic?

Look in your [World of Warcraft] folder and see if it contains a [Fonts] folder. If it does, try renaming that to [Fonts.saved]

I like the auto feed, I saw that nUI may offer that and was going to ask how to enable the pet feeding bar I thought I saw mentioned in the forums.

Also no Fonts folder.

I love that you actually answer questions and help out with your Mod...

Another reason I love nUI

You don't have to enabled anything to enable pet feeding in nUI... just click on the happiness button in the pet's unit frame. That's all there is to it.

I'm not sure what to tell you on the font thing... if you don't have a "fonts" folder then you aren't replacing the built in nUI fonts with special fonts, so it's not possible to have a "bad" font causing that unless you WoW itself is corrupt. And, you aren't using any chat mods, so it can't be one of those causing an issue, either. I'm miffed.

Are you playing on a Mac or a PC?

Do you have your O/S configured to scale fonts, or anything like that?

I am using a PC (Windows 7 Home Premium) I have clear type on and font scaling set to 100% (I guess no scaling)

I ran the wow file checker and it says all is cool.

I am at a loss, it is nothing terrible, I was just hoping if it could be replicated it could be fixed. I guess I can live with it

You are quite welcome, I am just happy you chose to keep developing nUI even after Blizzard made paid mods against TOS.
