caves and instances mini map is bad why?

When I am in a cave or dungeon the mini map has no idea where I am. The tiny square to the upper left shows the correct map in super small size. But the larger mini map thinks I am above the cave and shows the land. Useless. And the tiny corner is so small I cannot see well enough in the cave.

I thought I could live with this problem but I cant. What am I doing wrong?
