Fiddling with it on the PTR, I'm not impressed with it.

Cralor if you have look at my 3.3 thread I had a play with this.

First things first it does not come turned on by default.

You need to click a few boxes in the Interface options to turn it on.

You can also easily turn it on and off on the map itself if you don't want to look at the quest tracking features.

Another thing - it only does the basic "here's where you go for this quest". I don't think it can handle any quests more complicated then that. Escort quests would probably stump it as would quests requiring you to use objects in certain places or using objects that drop on other objects.

No what I'm excited about is the fact it puts there where to go to turn in a quest. If this can be exposed in the wow addons api it means that quest addons would become more efficient

But, does this new version make QuestHelper/Carbonite obsolete in their current config? Surely now they can have new versions with alot less memory/cpu requirments.

No I would not say it is replacing either of them. I don't think Carbonite would have any changes besides maybe including any new API which makes things easier. As for QuestHelper, I wonder if there will be more significant changes, or just the same API enhancements like Carbonite. Just my guess.

Unfortunately probably not, in that, at least the last time they were supposedly doing this (3.2) the information provided by the client was significantly worse than the information available in the QH database. On the other hand, 3.3 will also be providing information on what quests have been completed by the player, which QH will eventually take advantage of, but probably not when 3.3 is first released.

I see TourGuide benefiting hugely if you can indeed get completed quest data. And it will become a lot easier to get the EK and Kalimdor quest achievements.

I knew he was, but last I heard he didn't know when it would be ready. I can say unless he's modified the information being tracked some time ago, QuestHelper doesn't know where/how all quests begin, so that's a limiting factor.

That said, I haven't played WoW in months, so I haven't been following QH closely. You may know more than me.

No I just hang out on #wowui when Zorba was chewing the cud over it.

I don't think this will be the death of either addon.

Both addons don't do just "this area of the map is where you need to go for this quest".

Both addons have a whole raft of features that I don't see Blizzard implementing in a the default UI set anytime soon.

People are still going to use them for those features.

Would love to have someone from the Carbonite team weigh in on this. And Zorba if we can find the guy

I ahvent used QH in ages, but carbonite is my i can't do without addon. The map feature of carbonite is far and away superior to anything blizzard has built-in. Using mouse wheel to zoom in and out and the details of the map really pop. Those pesky narrow valleys to quest objectives you cant see til your standing at them are much easier to find.

I am glad that Bliz is taking baby steps tho. I'm thinking should they ever replace WoW they will build a much better UI.

As an aside..I've started raiding after much time(5yrs nearly ...i kno im slow) and I just want to say THANK YOU to ALL addon AUTHORS. I wish i had the money to donate to everyone of you. It is richly deserved. Thank you.

I think, if you're someone like me who uses TomTom/LightHeaded but just skims through the comments looking for coordinates to click on for waypoints, you'll get a good bit of use out of the Blizzard system. Mainly I do this when leveling an alt to get the idea of quest density of different areas of a zone, so I can get some efficiency out of the leveling process. (Of course, I'd want Blizzard's marks to act as waypoints so I can set the "Crazy Arrow" to them, so at MOST I can turn off LH.)

But if you're accustomed to more "hand-holding" than that, it doesn't seem like the Blizzard system will be much help.

Maybe, but it also lags when moving to another zone and you still see the previous zone. (Unless they somehow fixed it, but I doubt it)

Questhelper on the other hand works with the default map or cartographer and doesn't have said problem.

Well hmm...where to go with that. If your referring to the redraw/catch up it takes like 2s and i'm not staring at it when it happens. Doesn't bother me in the least. With Wow builtin maps unless coordinate is listed along with a pin note you can wonder around for an hour looking for specific point. With carbonite I can zoom in and find it no problem. Especially if it's waypointed. Then the map auto zooms as i get closer. DONE

Gotta love the rivalry between cabonite/Questhelper/lightheaded/tourguide

Wow, I didn't mean to start such an uproar. My statement was "in their current cofig", I was thinking that the mem/cpu requirments could be reduced using the Blizzard UI parts. Not getting rid of the programs completly.

I bet QH/Carbonite/TourGuide will work around this new feature and make it
better and more like what they used to have.

The good thing about this is that they don't have to get the full database
about things like they used to do, as they are now free out of the data files
thanks to Blizzy.

I see this as a very good feature, though I don't use leveling mods apart from
LightHeaded myself.

This would make the change when Cataclysm arrives much easier, as they are
revamping/replacing mostly every quest in every zone in Azeroth.

The negative side from this is that there will be ALOT more "newbies" that will
get to the max level faster than before, and without using add-ons.

See it as you might, I still think its a good default feature for the game.
(Although I will be making anti-blizz addons fast as **** soon ^_^)

As I stated above, yes, QH will make some use of this information, but it will not replace QH's database, because most of the time, QH's data is better than what Blizz is providing.

I don't happen to agree here p3lim.

For one thing it's not turned on by default on the build I tried it with (10747 or 10772 I think). It's a bit of suprise when you get it all turned on but it's not turned on by default.

With over 10 million wow players a newbie player will probably turn to their friends , guild mates and family for help first. Then they will turn to resources on the net to look things up before seeking to turn this option on.

My other point is this feature does not play the game for you. Where to go on the map for quest X to get object Y or kill objective Z is all it does.

It's not going to pop up on screen and tell you your HP is going down. The new tutorials help but they aren't going to tell you "Your HP is at 10% press the buttton that looks like this to heal you now"

No. You will still need to learn the play the game. You would still need to figure out that when something's hitting you and your health is low you can press this button to heal you and that it takes x time to activate so start doing it ahead of time.

It's not going to tell you the various ins and outs of playing a class that you learn simply by playing the game (zomg i dont need to keep wasting mana on heals when I can put something on myself to heal me automatically over time .

It's not a hand holder. It doesn't give your prompts on your screen for exactly what spell to push or which button to push at what time.
