Exclamation Please read! (nUI+ Copyright and Licensing Terms)

This evening it has come to my attention that an nUI+ user has created an addon pack including nUI+ and uploaded it to Curse.com -- this addon pack has over 3000 downloads. While I find that flattering, since it does seem to demonstrate nUI's popularity, I am more than just a little upset by the revelation.

With that thought in mind, I would like to take a moment here to state with absolute clarity that distribution of nUI+ to anyone by any means other than via direct download from the private download area at WoW Interface is absolutely and very strictly prohibited. nUI+ is NOT public domain and the copyright and licensing terms contained in the nUI+ distribution very clearly states as much. In addition, it is very clearly stated on the nUI+ download pages at WoWI that redistribution of nUI+ is prohibited for anyone and everyone except WoW Interface.

If you have uploaded nUI+ to any web site, in any form, for others to download... whether by torrent, part of an addon pack or for any other reason, I respectfully request that you immediate cease and desist. If you have done so, you are in violation of my legal rights. I have invested many hundreds of hours in nUI and nUI+ over the past two years, I ask only that you respect my hard work and my right to protect the fruits of my labor.

If you are the owner of the addon pack at http://wow.curse.com/downloads/packs...8/default.aspx -- please remove it immediately.

I will take all necessary steps to protect my work.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation in this.

Scott.

Having just read the email and looking at that site, all I can say is wow!

Some people have some nerve. I hope you get this quashed right away. I can only imagine your frustration over this.

I *may* need to eat my words on this... I'm not sure if the problem was fixed or if there was some other glitch. I just deleted my Interface/Addons folder a second time and redownloaded the addon pack a second time and the second time it appears to have been the correct release version.

Once way or the other, I *think* all is right now.

Even if they have used the normal version of nUI, one would think they could at least notify you of a major release like this. Or even better, ask your specific permission

Good for you Scott

If it were me I would not update the addon posted on Curse.com anymore. What Yamalika did was wrong & Curse.com not removing it is a violation of your copyright and they as well as Yamalika can & should be held financial responsible to you. I don't have much but if you decide to sue them let me know I'll donate more money for that.

At this point I believe it is all resolved as the download does now produce the nUI Release version rather than the nUI+ version. I do not have any problem with anyone distributing the normal release version as long as it is not altered in any way. It is only the nUI+ version that has the stricter "WoW Interface" only distribution licensing terms.

I am, however, keeping a close eye on it and I do always appreciate people letting me know when they see copies of nUI, and most especially nUI+, showing up anywhere that I didn't personally upload them to.

Is there any chance at all that this was a mistake? The date showing for the last update is Feb 15th.

Curse is pushing a Beta addon Packer

Hey Scott,

I just went to Curse.com, I do not go there often and on the home page is a frame that offers the author, USER, GUILD etc the ability to package addons using their Beta packager. You might want to check out the packages that have already been posted to make sure they have not included nUI+ in any of them. And as I said before if I were you I would just remove nUI from Curse.com all together and just WoWInterface.

From the looks of the pack though it shows nUI normal and links to curse's download. Only true test is to download and check for the nUI+ folders. Which I can't do without having their download tool.

Okay, looked at their Packaging tool and assuming this is the only way to make those packs we should be fine. Here are the instructions:

Guidelines:
1.Select the addons that will be part of the addon pack. You can add addons to the pack by clicking the checkbox next to their name in the left list or by uploading a .CCIP file created by the Curse Client v4.
2.Choose a name for your addon pack. Make sure that it is describes the purpose of the addon pack - such as "Magus' Raiding UI" or "Ret Paladin PvP Addons". Addon packs with irrelevant or offensive names will not be approved.
3.Add a description to the addon pack. Make sure that it highlights important addons and lists their function in the pack. Descriptions that are vague, irrelevant or offensive will not be approved.
4.Upload images to the addon pack. Make sure that the images are of the addon as seen in-game - generic WoW images or non-WoW images are not useful, and addon packs with such images will not be approved.

The CCIP file will only exist for CurseClient addons which only list Curse Addons if I remember rightly which means only nUI regular will be there. And the page itself only offers addons from the site. Again, only nUI regular is on the site.

I assume that the packaging process will use that information to grab each addon and generate the appropriate folder structure and compress it again ready for downloading. Or it just puts all the addons together and leaves the user to separate and install them separately which is more unlikely.

Version 5.07.27 contains the latest bugfixes.
The thread http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...t.php?p=267112 makes an adjustment missed off of the patch update.

I think the third Windows install did the trick. My internet appears to be back to the performance I've come to expect. I still have a lot of reinstalling to do to get back to operational now, but at least it's working.

So... as soon as I can get WoW installed, I'll pull that pack down and check it. My gut feeling is this is your typical /b tard trying to prove how much testosterone he has... trust but verify ~lol~

EDIT: I did download this pack this morning and it does only include the nUI release version which is fine. So all it well.
