Four nUI bugs and their fixes...

Breaking out the bug whacking stick...
(aka... I'm trying to avoid doing a major update)

There are three key bugs in nUI at present that I am getting a lot of mail about... I wanted to try and address all three of them here and avoid doing an update if I can. All three of these bugs significantly impact play, but are also very easily fixed by the user.
  • nUI 5.07.09 -- Player/Target buffs growing down over the action bars, chat frame, bag bar, etc.
Yes... I know this is an annoying bug. Without going all geek on you, it's being caused by the change to secure frames that Blizzard made in the aura buttons with the 4.0 patch. It is causing the buttons to "taint" in combat which means they cannot be shown, hidden, moved, etc. Since they can't be moved, the buttons can't move "up" as the list grows, so the list grows down over the dashboard. Fixing this would require a complete rewrite of how the aura buttons work and that's a waste of time since nUI5 is for all practical purposes dead.
This is easy to fix though... all you have to do is switch from the default aura display in nUI5 (aura bars) to the old style aura button display. Just go to the "nUI: Unit Frame Panels" section at http://files.nUIaddon.com and click on the "nUI: Aura Buttons" download link. Download and install this unit frame modification and it will convert the vertical display of aura bars to a horizontal display of aura buttons for the player, the target and the player's pet. That will cure the overlap problem.
  • nUI 5.07.09 -- The range indicator and cooldown bar in the HUD are overlapping the pet and main action bars
This problem was introduced by Blizzard's bug in their viewport which is causing the display of water and sky textures to go nuts if the viewport is anything other than full size. Since nUI used to use a viewport, that broken nUI and I had to remove the viewport. But, doing that caused the display to shift down and now the bottom elements of the HUD are overlapping the dashboard when they didn't use to.
This is exceptionally easy to fix... just use the command '/nui hud vofs 150' to move the HUD up. You can play with the number 150 making it larger or smaller to move the HUD up or down until you have it where you like it. For example, if the '/nui hud vofs 150' moves the HUD too high for you, you might try '/nui hud vofs 125' to lower it a little bit from there.
  • nUI 5.07.09 -- The pet bar is not displaying when my pet spawns (typically while in combat)
Yeah... this one is a serious annoyance and there's not a real easy fix for it. You can try using the key bindings for your pet. That will often make the bar appear. You can also try adding a pet bar mod. Both of those are kind of a pain in the butt solution, I know. You can also try using the nUI6 alpha test build instead of nUI5. The pet bar should be working there. Unfortunately, most other nUI5 features are not... so it's not much of a trade. Sadly, the pet bar has changed a lot and like the aura buttons, "fixing" it pretty much requires a rewrite. I can't justify that for nUI5 at this point. I play a hunter and a lock both, so... yeah... I do feel your pain on this one.
  • nUI 6.04.03.03 -- The chat frame and combat log are overlapping and not positioned correctly over the dashboard
As has been said many times, nUI6 is test code... the *only* features in the current test build are the basic unit frames, the basic action bars and the quest watch frame. None of the other "nice" things you're used to in nUI5 are in the current test build. This includes the chat frame management. So, the chat frames are being left dumped in whatever position they were last left in. There is nothing "broken" in the nUI6 test code, there's just no code there to move the chat frame. This, too, is very easy to fix...
  1. mouse over the combat log and right-click the combat log tab
  2. unlock the combat log frame
  3. drag the combat log tab over the "general" tab on the default chat frame and drop it so it docks to the default chat frame
  4. click on the "general" tab to select the default chat frame
  5. right-click the "general" tab and unlock the chat frame
  6. drag the chat frame into whatever position you want it in (such as over the bottom left of the dashboard) and drop it
  7. drag the bottom right corner of the chat frame to size it as you like
  8. when you have the chat frame in the position you like, and the size you like, right-click the "general" tab and lock the frame
That's it... all done. Hopefully the information above will help you "fix" the few remaining bugs that are annoying everyone until I can get the next nUI6 test build released.

The current support level for nUI is...
18.6% of this months' target goal

The previous month's support level was...
33.4% of the goal

Best regards...

For the pet bar, doesn't just left clicking on your pet call the bar again? I noticed this bug yesterday, clicked my pet, the bar popped up and stayed for the rest of my play time.

Thumbs up Buff Bars

Why can you not make the bars dock on the bottom and have them work upwards instead of down?

I think what Scott was saying that to make them work like that would mean a whole re-write of the current aura system in nUI 5. And seeing as he is trying to get nUI 6 out of the door for us it would be a waste of time seeing that there is a temporary work around for us to play with while we wait.

Version 5.07.27 contains the latest bugfixes.
The thread http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...t.php?p=267112 makes an adjustment missed off of the patch update.

As far as the technical reason why this is a lot of work, it is because having them "work upwards" obviously requires moving the buttons on the screen, and when Cata (v4.0.1) was released, Blizzard changed things to make moving buff buttons a restricted operation (i.e. addons are not allowed to do it in combat). Working around this new restriction requires completely different programming logic and hence rewriting all the related code.

This will work in nUI 6, but since nUI 5 is on the way out the door, it is not a worthwhile investment of time for the older version.
