nUI 6.04.03.06 Alpha released...

Release News
(v6.04.03.06 Alpha Release)

This is an alpha pre-release of nUI6 for testing use only. Please note that it is early production code and is both (a) incomplete and (b) certain to contain errors.

Redistribution of this code to anyone, by any means, for any purpose is strictly prohibited!

This alpha release should be installed *WITH* nUI5 disabled and inactive.

A preview of the unit frames and action bars in this alpha release can be found here...The new HUD and cooldown bar can be seen here...NOTE: The quest watch frame was temporarily removed for this alpha release

The purpose of this alpha release is to continue testing the unit frame data engine and the basic unit frame layout as well as the basic functionality in the action bars, pet bar, shape shift bar, possession bar and micro menu bar. With that in mind, much of the unit frame and action bar display functionality is intentionally omitted in this release in order to get a good test of the data collection engine without the overhead of all of the graphics rendering and to prove taint stability and action execution without conflict from added features

You will *not* be able to manually change unit frame panels in the alpha... this is on purpose to fully test the panel auto switching function. The manual switching will be enabled at a later time.

In addition, this alpha does not contain auras (buffs/debuffs) on purpose as both are graphics rendering intensive. With that in mind, the default Blizz player, pet and target unit frames are enabled along with their aura displays.

This alpha does not include combo points or runes, so the default Blizzard options have been enabled for both.

This alpha contains unit frame panels for solo questing, five man parties and ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five and forty man raids. It does not contain arena panels.

All action bars are present and should function normally for casting spells and macros.

This update does include a basic HUD

What I am and am not asking the alpha testers for...

Do not tell me about things that were in nUI5 and are not in nUI6. That's intentional and expected... the only thing we are concerned with is the base functionality of the nUI6 unit frames and action bar themselves.

I do want to know what your experiences are with the performance of the new frames, memory usage for nUI6, any nUI6 errors that are generated (including taint) and any data errors you see in terms of health, power, etc.

If you have any comments, bug reports or other information to post on this alpha, please do so at the nUI support forum... http://forums.nUIaddon.com

The alpha can be downloaded by nUI+ users in the "nUI+ Full Version" download section at http://files.nUIaddon.com -- If you are subscribed to the nUI e-mail update service this update has already been sent to you as a separate attachment.

The current support level for nUI is...
14.3% of this month's target goal

The previous month's support level was...
30.9% of the goal

Best regards...

You should see much better performance than previously and much more stable... however, you'll also find not all nUI5 features present yet.

I've strayed from nUI, and was thinking of coming back. One of the reasons that I left though, is because of the raid frame layout. I see that your working on a new set of raid frames, and while I haven't downloaded nUI6, I want to suggest what bothered me in nUI5. As a priest, my group heal spell is just that, a GROUP spell. With the old frames, it made it hard to see who was in what group. I understand in a 25m that it's more difficult, because you'd have 2 rows of 5 and then 3 rows of 5, making it un-even. While I'm doing more 10's than 25's at this point, it's just something I really can't live without. I have OCD too, and don't really like the look of 2 on one side, and 3 on the other, but for functionality's sake, that's a better tradeoff than not having a very clear picture on who's in which group.

Now, I've seen it posted that in the 40m, the map isn't in the raid frames area. For the sake of the look, I personally would almost prefer having the map somewhere else and using that area for just frames. Or, having the map either off to the right or left. As a healer, I want my map in the same place no matter if I'm solo, in a hero, a raid, or pvp. I need to know when I look in one spot, my map is there. Having the map in different locations just isn't an option for me.

These are just my suggestions, and I haven't had a chance to check out nUI in a while (5 or 6), but I was going to check it out this weekend some time. Bottom line is, nUI is about as close as I can get to what I want, but the raid frames just aren't doing it for me. Love the party/solo frames, the raid frames just aren't doing it for me......

The new raid frames have been reorganized to resolve that issue. You now have columns of five frames each so the groups are organized correctly to make it easy to see who is in which group. In addition, the player/target frames have been moved to the left of the minimap and the raid/party frames to the right for the 5, 10, 15 and 20 man unit panels. For the 25 and 40 man panels, the minimap is moved out of the unit panel space entirely, but the organization of player/target/raid frames remains the same so all of the unit frames are in one place and so on. (more healer friendly)
