PhanxChat: Extra Info
This page contains extra information about my addon PhanxChat. This information is here instead of in the addon description beacuse it isn't really relevant for the majority of users who just want to know what the addon does and how to use it. It's also nice to have something to link to in response to common requests. :)

Advanced Configuration:

Some extra options are available for advanced users who are not afraid to touch code. These are accessed by opening Core.lua in a text editor, and include:
  • Set lines scrolled per mousewheel turn
  • Change short chat strings and channel names (text, colors, brackets)
  • Change the player name format (brackets)
  • Change the URL format (color, brackets)
  • Select which channels are made sticky
  • Blacklist frames to reduce CPU usage
Blacklisting a frame means that it will not be processed to shorten channels, color names, or link URLs. By default, the combat log (ChatFrame2) is blacklisted; if you have created additional frames that don't need these features (for example, I have a chat frame dedicated to loot messages) you can blacklist them to reduce CPU usage.

Please note that I will not provide support for advanced configuration. If you don't understand something, leave it alone or use wowwiki.com to learn about it. If you break something, reinstall the addon and try again.

Planned Features:
  • Channel color saved by name instead of number
  • Channel name linking (click channel name to type in that channel)

Declined Features

The following is a list of features which have been requested and declined. Please do not request these features; I have already chosen not to add them to my addon, and will likely ignore or delete your request if it asks for any of these features.
  • Timestamps
  • Center- or right-aligned chat text
  • Mouseover tooltips on links in chat
  • Extra entries in player name right-click menu
  • Special actions on player name modified clicks (such as alt-click to invite)
  • Nicknames, main/alt aliases, or other arbitrary extra text
  • Alerts when certain words or messages types are seen in chat
  • Free movement of the edit box
  • Reskinning of the edit box or other chat frame components (including font)
  • Keybindings to open chat in specific channels
  • Item links in custom channels (FYI: these dump obnoxious gibberish into chat for people not using the same or a compatible addon)

Companion Addons

The following is a list of addons that provide additional chat-related features and can be run alongside PhanxChat without issue. Please note that I am not the author of any of these addons and cannot provide support for them. If you have a suggestion for an addition to this list (especially one that provides a feature I've declined to add to PhanxChat) or have found that one of these addons is broken, please send me a PM.
  • ChatJustify provides some text alignment capability.
  • ChatStamp adds timestamps to chat messages.
  • Fane modifies the appearance of chat tabs.
  • NeonChat colors the edit box according to current chat type.
  • System Message Control Tool gives you control over system messages.
  • tekChatBorderFix fixes the chat resize borders to be click-through when the window is locked.
  • tekPlayerMenu adds extra entries to the player name right-click menu.
  • TheLowDown automatically scrolls to the bottom of the chat frame if it's left scrolled up too long.
