I've tested it, it's only occurring on my Death Knight when I kill a mob. So there must be something that the Death Knight is doing (talent/skill) that is causing this. On my warlock, it has no issues. (Interface: SCT - WotLK | Bug: bad argument #3 to 'string_format')

I can confirm, I am getting this error also, I was just going to post it, but saw it was already here. It happens every time a kill a mob. I am running a mod nQuestLog which can hook into SCT to use it when updating quest objectives. However, disabling that notification still causes the error. It's installed correctly. I think what's missing in the download is "sct_options". It's included with SCTD - WotLK but not with SCT. I still had the pre-WotLK sct_options installed. But when I remove that, sctd_options is missing a dependency and I get "Error Loading SCT Options. It may be disabled. Error: MISSING" for both SCT and SCTD. No custom events, or events set to enemies? Try doing the same thing with the "anyone" option and see if that fixes the issue. Let me know the details of the event you are trying to test with. I got the same effect on current version. I usualy make a daily update with WoWAceUpdater and since 2 days I see everyone and his grandma's spells/abilities on my screen within the message frame. Would be nice if anyone knows a workaround to post it here, not only to tell you know one who saw one who listen to someone who got it fixed. If you have a fix for it, link it here or send PM to email me. I searched 1001 forums to find a solution...
