GatherSage2 is a re-write of the original GatherSage. Almost all of the original GatherSage functionality made its way into GatherSage2 and a lot more was added.
GatherSage2 shows what level is required to mine, pick, smelt, prospect, mill, or skin a resource (vein, deposit, ore, animal, plant, etc). The tooltip will show all skills for which the resource can be gathered or used up (i.e. an herb that can be both picked and milled).
It also shows you your current skill, how many skill ups you have gained since you logged in, and the difference between the skill you need to work with the resource and the skill you currently have.
It displays this information in the tooltip when you mouse over a resource in the world, minimap, inventory, auction house, mailbox, guild bank, and pretty much anywhere the item can be displayed. It will also show you if that resource has a chance of yielding special items (such as stone, gems, or other herbs).
A lot of testing has gone into making sure GatherSage2 does not interfere with other addons you may have loaded. Please report any problems found.
There is a readme.txt file that contains detailed information on GatherSage2

Bug
What you are experiencing is a bug in my match regex which I also fixed. Line 460 in Main.lua should read: Code:
match = data:match(string.format("~%s`.-~", name)) Code:
-- Some creatures are named things like "Jade" if k == skinning and sType ~= UNIT then return end

I was in Razorfen Downs and when I moused over "Fire" the tooltip stated that is was skinnable, and gate a list of leathers.
I will try to reproduce this again, just a heads up. |

Try now
As I was reading this I knew exactly what I did so it only took a few minutes to fix. I'm sure this was happening with my tests, but I evidently didn't notice it. The font seems to stay the same size now.
I knew there was a reason I wanted to keep the CloneLine() function in the tooltip code Thanks for the report.

Hi. Thanks for updating. While it did solve the error mentioned previously, it seems to have introduced a font issue on tooltips. I use TipTac.
Starting when mousing over a gatherable item (ore, etc.), from that point on the first several lines of every tooltip are enlarged and bolded (including the GatherSage2 info line) as if to match the header line (item/skill/character name for example). This is new since the update and I've verified that disabling or rolling back the version eliminates the problem. Let me know if I can give any further info. |

New version
Just uploaded a new version and hopefully there won't be too many issues. I tested it on all my characters, but I can't cover every conceivable interaction within the game or test locales other than English
Since I am not really playing any more, this will likely be the last update unless some bugs pop up and I will work on them until 6/13 when my subscription expires. Anyone out there want to take over development of GS2? I will send you my code-generation Perl code that queries Wowhead for all the data. Of course some of the data is not 100% accurate, but it's better than doing it all by hand. Obviously having knowledge of Lua and Perl is a must as well as how the Ace3 GUI options configuration yuckiness works (one thing I'd like to drop, but didn't feel like messing with it). |

Re: Skinning Question
Yeah, it currently does this on live mobs. That's been a feature since early on. There is a known bug that when in combat the tooltip will not display the data unless you mouseout then back over the mob. I have not found a way to fix this since the game itself is modifying the tooltip behind the scenes somehow, likely outside the normal API calls since GS2 doesn't get the updates and know to redraw its data.
I have re-written a good portion of the addon which is why I have been delaying releasing a new version. I am hopefully wrapping it up this weekend and so bug reports will be impossible to work on until then since this code is so different. So far, it's looking like a 1MB savings in memory with a minor increase in CPU time (still far less than other mods like Auctioneer). Still doing lots of testing across 5 characters with different skills and levels.

Skinning Question
Is it possible for the skinning results to be displayed "before" the mob is skinnable? In other words list the "chance" of before it has died?
I was looking at the front page and noticed that GS should do this, but it does not seam to be doing it at the moment. I will check to make sure it is not a conflict with another of my addons. ( I think I remember GS did this before, but don't remember when it stopped.)

Re: v2010-04-26 another small error
Yeah, I don't know how I missed that one; I suspect originally the color code wasn't there and I changed it at some point without updating the format string. I fixed it in the test code I published in the patch rick tested for me.
I think I will promote that and put up a new version probably tonight. Thanks.

v2010-04-26 another small error
There is another error in the current release version (2010-04-26).
In GS2_Main.lua line 583 where it says Code:
self.DefaultFontStringRight:SetText(format( "%s%d (+%d/%d)|r", blue, skillLevel, self:Skill_GetSessionSkillUp(parentSkill) or 0, skillDistance )) The format string expects a number as 4th parameter though (%d). This is what's giving the error posted by rick below. Changing the format string to "%s%d (+d/%s)|r" fixes it. |
