QuestRouterLite was inspired by addons like TourGuide, QuestHelper, and Carbonite. With the release of 3.3 and specifically Points of Interest for quests, it is now possible to shed libraries like LightHeaded, if all you want is simple quest routing.
QuestRouterLite only uses Blizzard-provided information, so the locations are accurate, and there's virtually no additional memory use.
If you want to simply and cleanly go from one quest to another, QuestRouterLite is your addon.
Update Modes
When I started this addon I tried to make something comparable to QuestHelper or Carbonite, only using the quest events - turns out this isn't really possible.
So now QuestRouterLite has two major modes. You can either run without the timed updates and use only the quest events, or use periodic updates much like the other major questing addons. Timed updates are on by default, as I believe this is closer to my goal and gives a smoother and more accurate experience. If you want to turn them off, you can. The updating itself is so minimal that even with this on, it barely chews any cycles.
Current Version
I have managed to get blobs tracking with the minimap - however, due to the way Blizzard handles the blob, it is a rather hacked method. Because of this, swapping between the world and minimap is currently glitchy, and without a masking feature in the WoW API, the blobs run off the minimap. It may be impossible to fix this, but I will keep trying. Use of the minimap blobs is at your discretion - and is off by default.
Please report any bugs, issues, or feature requests.
TomTom Required
While there is a feature that will automatically select the closest quest on your map, the addon relies on TomTom to provide easy navigation to the next quest.
You can get TomTom here: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html

I had an interesting bug earlier today.
I had enabled the "Tracked Quests Only" option and when I accepted the quest "Harlan Needs A Resupply" in Stormwind the quest's POI's background and question mark were separate and didn't move about the minimap as I moved around the world. When I tracked the quest or disabled "Tracked Quests Only" the icon went back to normal. Here's a screenshot of the odd POI and my current settings. Somehow the POI was created but not added to the minimap properly because of my settings.

The functionality is kind of weird. I actually should check if there are available POIs before throwing that prompt up, which would make more sense. So thanks for bringing it up.
I'm glad you managed to get something repeatable, that'll make it much easier to find and squash - thanks. |

I'd like to be able to use it to point me to the closest quest without it pushing the quest to the tracker. I'm currently using MonkeyQuest for quest objectives, so I've been manually commenting out the offending line (347 in the most recent release) to prevent it from popping the tracker up.

When turning on "current zone" option an popup message spams me with options to turn it back off.
Edit: this also spams no matter what when you have no quests

There is an option to disable the popup.
Untick "Empty POI Warning" and it will go away. |

I want to keep it so you can make it as light or heavy as use choose. I'll try and think of something clever, but right now you can just disable the warning.

Couple questions:
- If using this and Tourguide, should one be disabled? Will one interfere with the other? - Is there a reason the arrow wouldn't show in the Death Knight starter area? Moving quest to quest doesn't spawn an arrow at all there. |

Not sure about the DK starter area. AFAIK there's nothing special about it. The waypoints are cleared from TomTom once you get close to them, so it might be that the quests are just close together. Some of the POIs don't seem to be where they should be, and are sometimes at the questgivers insted of the quests. Are you getting POIs that are distant from you and it's just the arrow that's not showing up? |

I like the theory of this mod but it does not do what it says it does. It does not always point to the closest quest (maybe it will work better when optimal routing is added). Case in point: Tournament dailies. I have it so it is not limited to quests in zone but IS limited to what I have tracked. Yet, it tells me to go turn in A Leg Up when I have not done Mistcaller Yngvar even if I am standing right on top of the very spot Yngvar spawns at. Why would I go all the way back and turn in the first quest when the second one is right there? I am hoping this is just an odd discrepancy. I'll keep checking here for updates as it looks like this will eventually be the mod that does exactly what I am looking for: creates an optimal route using Blizzard quest spot information.
Edit: Just noticed something else. Finished the tournament dailies in the local area and zone restrictions are set to off within the mod but it's still not telling me to go do the other 2 tracked quests that I have for tournament dailies. Is anyone else having these problems. I'm completely baffled.

As far as an optimal route goes, without storing quest information, it wouldn't be much more complicated than the closest quest anyway. I'd probably just run a traveling salesman problem over all the available nodes on each update - which would come out pretty close to the route you'd have if you went from closest to closest. The closest quest thing should be "good enough" otherwise, so if it's not doing what it's supposed to, I need to find out why and fix it. Either way, I haven't run the tournament dailies for awhile (I've been leveling alts) so I'll go ahead and do that and see if I can recreate the problem.

The only other quest mod I use is quest guru and quest guru tracker. I have tried shutting both of them off and there is no change. These are my settings for QRL mod: include progress ON include completed ON current zone only OFF tracked quests only ON (also have blizzards autotrack new quest on) show minimap icons OFF show worldmap icons ON empty POI warnings OFF display all blobs ON display minimap blobs OFF timed update: ON update interval: 2 tracked order: OFF add to tracker: OFF Also: traveling salesman may improve the constant do quest, turn quest in, run back to area you were almost to, turn quest in to the same freakin spot the other one you turned in was at, do next quest, etc. I am really really really trying not to go back to memory hog quest helper. I have tried every quest mod out there and was hoping this was my solution. So far no go. But for the record, I appreciate your efforts. I am not a programmer and therefore cannot write mods. So hats off to you for trying. If I figure out any more I'll update you ASAP. Edit: Disabled quest guru's tracker and the quest I had tracked showed up. No idea if this is a complete fix or coincidence due to all the logging in and out trying to figure out the problem. 2nd Edit: I am thinking this is perhaps partially a Blizz failure. Loaded second character. Tracked 3 quests; no arrow. Checked maps: no Blizzard POI. Traveled to zone of first quest: still no POI. Messed with map settings: POI shows up ONLY if quest panel AND blobs are set to appear. Arrow shows up once I get the stupid Blizzard POI to show up. Yay for Blizzfail. I'll keep testing.

I've been playing around, and it seems like there's actually something wrong with the whole "current zone only" off. I've been mostly testing with that on, which seems to work perfectly. Having said that, I shouldn't be offering a feature if it doesn't work right I'm going to run with it off for a bit, mess with the code and see if I can figure out what's up. I'll see if I can get a fixed version up tonight. Using a route would alleviate some of that, yeah - it also may double or triple the size of the current code. Something I'm looking at doing, but I want to get the core of it working first. I understand that TourGuide is for-pay and QuestHelper is dead, so as an alternative to Carbonite I'd like to offer something comparable. Heh, I am trying to get something that works for everyone Also, it was probably the reloading that fixed it - a tracker addon shouldn't interfere with this mod. Edit: Thanks to you and everyone posting issues! I have no idea how long this has been rather broken and now I feel bad I've been posting it like this :P
