Contact them, there are 3-4 policies that are on your side:

Forking/Cloning

This doesn't apply is if you have a legitimate change you created and the project in question has a license that would allow you to make said changes. Any license that follows the Open Source Definition is forkable by definition.

The only other time you could upload an addon that is not solely your work is if you have the explicit permission of the original author(s).

Note that you can't upload an addon verbatim without adding anything to it if it isn't yours, we won't accept it here.

If you do want to fork a project that already is on CurseForge/WowAce, it is highly, highly recommended to clone the project and work from there. If you need to have a completely separate project, inform a moderator and we can work with you to assess the situation.
Open Source Definition: http://www.opensource.org/docs/definition.php

The project lead has dropped off the face of the planet, what to do

If contacting the project leader fails (by fail I mean that he didn't respond, not that they said no) please follow these steps:

Create a report about the project. The report should contain any references to contact the author, what work you have done on the project, why you think you should be able to take over the project (aka license is Public Domain, there is a comment by the author stating that people can work on the project).
Wait for a moderator to review your ticket. We will examine each request on a case by case basis.
Do not upload a new project as a fan update. If you are going to be allowed to contribute you will be added to the original project.
Just send them a mail or something and tell them you want to release a fan update or a new fork or something

Oooo that is very good to know, maybe ill do that, Just change it to Bigbur's Bosstalk, and give to Endeavor, sounds simple enough. Now if i can remember my account with cruse

Edit: Waiting for curse to approve

This project was not approved because:
This appears to be an unauthorized fan update. Please seek consent from the original author and make it clear that you have received it. Please review the Project Acceptance Policy located at: http://kb.curseforge.com/policy/project-acceptance-policy/ If you are interested in maintaining an existing project, please review the Abandoned and Inactive Projects Policy located at: http://kb.curseforge.com/policy/abandoned-and-inactive-projects/

Bigbur, you actually can post it on Curse.com, as your own version, like instead of Endeavor's Bosstalk make it Bigbur's Bosstalk, or Endeavor's Bosstalk Continued.

Reason being, it first has not been updated in well over a year, second its released under GPLv2 so as long as you give credit to the original auther, and release all source code (which in this case happens automatically when releasing the addon, it just means no Obfuscation) then you can take the source and use it anyway you please, and release it under the SAME license. Otherwise this release on WoW Interface would be illegal too, but its not since its all GPL licensed.

So you can freely release it on Curse, or I can release it on curse and give all credit to you, doesn't matter to me, But it would be nice if you did it, cause Addon Authors get nice perks.

Taken directly from the addon page: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...boss-talk.aspx

GPLv2 if you want to read it: http://wow.curseforge.com/licenses/6...rsion-2-gplv2/

Oooh. I see. So it wouldn't be just a quick thing then. Well if that doesn't beat all. Thanks for the timely response and I guess I'll just use the macros feature for each person instead of the events. Needless to say I really do not want my blonde bubble-headed holy priestess sounding like Mother Shahraz, now do I? Hah. Well thanks again and great work! Other than that one small detail I'm quite happy with the addon and very thankful you two have started work on it once more.

EDIT: Or..perhaps.. you three? You four? Ehh.. ALL of you. I'm thankful for the work ALL of you have put into it. x3

Sorry.. old sayings.. Anywho. My question is.. Do I have to have the SAME sayings for EVERY character? Because..honestly.. some I have in the 'Events' list just..do not work for other characters I have. I cannot quite see a way for each character to have their own options or profile and what not and..well.. That's a bit troubling.

Thank you both for the help that you two had put into the addon, helpin me out, it is much appricated. Unfortently Daegalus, unless the original author of this addon hands over the rights, Cures won't update it. But I did take the liberty of uploading your repackaged file here only think i had to do was update it to 3.958 to co inside with the the numerical version of where the addon was.

There is a repackaged updated copy of Bosstalk. I also cleaned up the ToC file and such a bit. Moved all the embeds into an XML file instead of straight in the ToC

Normally I would release it, but they are such minor changes, there is almost no work done in this. Wouldn't feel right, plus it works just fine and Bigbur did some good work on it and all.

Though it would be nice if you released it on Curse, or I can release it there for you, I am a Addon Author on there already.

Re: A Fix

ah i totally didn't catch that when fixing toc file myself. i just added libs to optional dependnacies so at least if a newer version of lib exists in another addon then bosstalk would stop using it's own out of date ones.

A Fix

In helping out my friend, I have found out that you have a small problem with your ToC file. You updated the LibBabble-*-3.0 libraries, but you didnt notice there was a change in the file structure. The LibBabble component is now a seperate file, and not just a function inside the LibBabble-*-3.0.lua. What this causes is if the person is using only this addon period, or no other addons that load LibBabble-3.0.lua, the addon errors, and just stops working for the most part.

Here is a fix to it http://dl.dropbox.com/u/787423/BossTalk.toc just need to add LibBabble-3.0.lua to the ToC.

In all honesty you should change it to load the XML files instead for the LibBabble, and any other embed that has XML files now.

[Edit] actually, I updated it to XML files, but there is now an error that I seem to be getting in the Version Check function of the addons:

Code:
Message: Interface\AddOns\BossTalk\Core.lua:804: attempt to compare nil with number
Time: 07/15/10 14:12:33
Count: 1
Stack: Interface\AddOns\BossTalk\Core.lua:804: in function `VersionCheck'
Interface\AddOns\BossTalk\Core.lua:881: in function `?'
...alk\Libs\CallbackHandler-1.0\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua:147: in function <...alk\Libs\CallbackHandler-1.0\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua:147>
[string "safecall Dispatcher[4]"]:4: in function <[string "safecall Dispatcher[4]"]:4>
[C]: ?
[string "safecall Dispatcher[4]"]:13: in function `?'
...alk\Libs\CallbackHandler-1.0\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua:92: in function `Fire'
...ace\AddOns\BossTalk\Libs\AceComm-3.0\AceComm-3.0.lua:268: in function <...ace\AddOns\BossTalk\Libs\AceComm-3.0\AceComm-3.0.lua:257>
[Edit-2] The Version Check problem is cause you are using 2 dots in your version, that causes problems when the versioncheck function tries to convert it to a real number. I changed it to 3.956 and it works.

Also this version problem, stops people with the Endeavors version, or older version to not be able to send you quotes. you dont hear them, since the versioncheck fails.

http://www.mediafire.com/?mvmyiyeonmzjnjo Modified ToC with library fix and version upped.
