This addon will mute some of the annoying sounds of WoW. If you are updating from version 8.1 or lower please read the 8.2 section as the installation instructions have changed.
Changes in patch 8.2
Patch 8.2 broke the way this addon originally worked and so has had to be reworked.
This addon is now installed into the Interface > Addons directory just like any other addon.
Since this change required a complete rework of the addon there are around ~2500 sounds missing from this version that the previous version muted.
You can safely delete the old versions installation folder "Sound" in your World of Warcraft directory.
This version only works on Retail.
Custom Sound Mutes:
If you want to mute sounds that aren't already included in the addon I've created a small tool to help you do so using sound ids found on wowhead.
To clarify, this is NOT needed to make this addon work, this is something extra and entirely optional for those who'd like to mute sounds not already included.
The download and instructions for using it can be found here:
https://github.com/Kiingy/MuteWoWSounds
The above link also contains the complete source code for anyone interested.
Basic List: Please note this isn't a complete list, it's a small sample to give an idea of whats been muted.
- Players: All race combat grunts as well as emote sounds like train and worgen sniffs. All footsteps.
- Classes: Select sounds like Path of Frost, Fan of Kives, mage armors & portals, hunter pet calls, shaman shields and spell cast fizzles.
- Mechanical Mounts: Choppers, Flying Machines, Goblin Trikes, Mechastriders and Rockets.
- Biological Mounts: Summon roars, mount special, idle and footstep sounds for most mounts. Dismount sound also included.
- Battle Pets: Idle sounds like Lil'XT, Lil'Ragnaros, Singing Sunflower and Thor.
- Hunter/Mage/Warlock Pets: Creature combat sounds, footsteps, flying and idle sounds. Mage elemental loops also included.

- Toys: Piccolo of the Flaming Fire, Train Sets and Brewfest Mole Machine.
- Daily Hubs: Isle of Thunder, Isle of Quel'Danas and Tol'Barad.
- Misc: City clock sounds, ethereal vendor hubs, waterfalls, rivers, beaches, fires and fireworks.

Hi!
There is a very annoying sound I have just noticed lately, when killing multiple packs of them. It is bearable when there is one mob, but when there are many, it is indescribable. Might there be any possibility of adding a mute sound for them to your addon? Jaspertip Borer and Rockslice Flayer from Deepholm use Flayer Flurry and another Flayer Flurry. Stonecore Flayer from Stonecore uses Flay. |

All flayers share the same sounds. Adding these should mute them. Weapon(s) being drawn and replaced?
Could someone tell me which sounds files I need, to replace the sound of the melee weapon(s) being drawn and replaced?
I've got a little addon that draws (and replaces) my weapon, but the noise is getting a bit repetitive and I'd love to be able to get that covered up / silenced. Thanks! |

Re: Weapon(s) being drawn and replaced?
You mean the equip/unequip or sheath sound? |

Stormwind music
I'm trying to remove the Stormwind city music but am not having much luck. I have created empty (zero byte) mp3 files with the following names:
stormwind_highseas-moment.mp3 stormwind01-moment.mp3 stormwind02-moment.mp3 stormwind03-moment.mp3 stormwind04-zone.mp3 stormwind05-zone.mp3 stormwind06-zone.mp3 stormwind07-zone.mp3 stormwind08-zone.mp3 stormwind_intro-moment.mp3 It stops the music but it also stops everything else! I head ambience but the sound effects for everything just don't play. Please help. |

Re: Stormwind music
Also you cannot use sounds with zero bytes. They need to have at least 0.1 second length or they cause problems. |

Re: Re: Stormwind music
I just don't like/want the Stormwind music, I like all the other music though (own all the soundtracks). Don't want to have to manually toggle music on/off when I switch zones.
Could you please provide me with an appropriate .mp3 file for use? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. |

Thanks for sorting all the sounds out. I agree that total mute isn't really an option because I like most sounds but some are just earpounding.
And usually I wear a headset or headphones as well and then the sounds become more clearer or more annoying. Anyway, cheers for all the work you've done. much appreciated ! Alternatively if you CAN'T use zero byte files you can also edit the files in a music editor and normalize or lower the volume of a sound to a minimum. You have to copy the original file of course, do NOT edit the files in those big containers where all the files are. That way the file still has content and can be played without problems I think.

Re: Stormwind music
Again, I am not really sure about this. But you could try to copy the zero-byte MP3's to zero-byte WAV and/or OGG ? Again, my apologies if this doesn't work, but you got to try all things possible. Or an other problem MIGHT be that music files can NOT be zero-byte and need to have content somehow.

Re: Re: Re: Stormwind music
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20997...ind+sounds.zip Site will hold the file for 7 days, If you miss it, private message me. For future reference. All sound files must be at least 0.1 second long. Quality and size of the file does not matter.

Praise and Requests
Love the mod, love customizing it by hand, have done this since release (which is part of the request), great work on Tyrael's so far, been looking for that swoosh myself.
Requests: Just two of them. First, those @$#%@#$% gulping and chomping sounds, including, but not necessarily limited to: Sound/Interface/iDrinking1 Sound/Interface/iEating1 Item/UseSounds/iEating1 Before I figured out how to replace these, I literally could not use sound at all. These sounds just squick me too much. So, anything that generated eating or drinking sounds (if you find/know of more...) would be great to include Second one is harder. There's some humming sort of sound our Disc priest would always generate. Tried to track it down to an aura or a spell, and we never could, so our best guess is that it's a secondary effect (hopefully NOT from an item). It's so loud it just fills the ears. I'm sure the research on this would be next to impossible, but, one never knows how bored an author, or the general populace, can be. Thanks, and keep up the great work! |
