This addon will mute some of the annoying sounds of WoW. If you are updating from version 8.1 or lower please read the 8.2 section as the installation instructions have changed.
Changes in patch 8.2
Patch 8.2 broke the way this addon originally worked and so has had to be reworked.
This addon is now installed into the Interface > Addons directory just like any other addon.
Since this change required a complete rework of the addon there are around ~2500 sounds missing from this version that the previous version muted.
You can safely delete the old versions installation folder "Sound" in your World of Warcraft directory.
This version only works on Retail.
Custom Sound Mutes:
If you want to mute sounds that aren't already included in the addon I've created a small tool to help you do so using sound ids found on wowhead.
To clarify, this is NOT needed to make this addon work, this is something extra and entirely optional for those who'd like to mute sounds not already included.
The download and instructions for using it can be found here:
https://github.com/Kiingy/MuteWoWSounds
The above link also contains the complete source code for anyone interested.
Basic List: Please note this isn't a complete list, it's a small sample to give an idea of whats been muted.
- Players: All race combat grunts as well as emote sounds like train and worgen sniffs. All footsteps.
- Classes: Select sounds like Path of Frost, Fan of Kives, mage armors & portals, hunter pet calls, shaman shields and spell cast fizzles.
- Mechanical Mounts: Choppers, Flying Machines, Goblin Trikes, Mechastriders and Rockets.
- Biological Mounts: Summon roars, mount special, idle and footstep sounds for most mounts. Dismount sound also included.
- Battle Pets: Idle sounds like Lil'XT, Lil'Ragnaros, Singing Sunflower and Thor.
- Hunter/Mage/Warlock Pets: Creature combat sounds, footsteps, flying and idle sounds. Mage elemental loops also included.
- Voice Acting: World bosses, Rhonin & Kalecgos city speech and Headless Horseman speech.
- Toys: Piccolo of the Flaming Fire, Train Sets and Brewfest Mole Machine.
- Daily Hubs: Isle of Thunder, Isle of Quel'Danas and Tol'Barad.
- Misc: City clock sounds, ethereal vendor hubs, waterfalls, rivers, beaches, fires and fireworks.
- Battlegrounds: Victory/Defeat, Alert and Herald sounds.
- Instances: Select boss speech and combat sounds, loops sounds like the beating heart from SoO. All instance portals.
- Creatures: Kovok, Elemental loops and deaths.
- Tradeskills: Alchemy, Leatherworking, Engineering, Blacksmithing, Tailoring and Jewelcrafting sounds.

WoW stormwind staff quest music
When someone completes the staff quest in stormwind, there is a lengthy talk by klecgos that I have managed to mute. But there is also a different music toon played, I have tried to find this toon and failed. I would like very much to be able to mute it. I would very much appreciate help with this. Thanks very much.
Edit: Another I've been looking for is this sound I believe is from pallies, it sounds like a piano or harp (4 strings being plucked) it really irritates. It may be in the list but I am unsure which one it is Edited again(6-23-12): I think it's a sound of my resto shammy, gonna do some tests and figure it out then I'll update again! Also, here is a link to the sound of the staff quest on youtube (a player shot vid with the music at the beginning I'm looking to get rid of) http://youtu.be/oWVf3EXFllc Anyways I did some testing and watched a couple youtube videos of dungeon runs. The sound is of Resto Shammys /script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Spells\\Shaman_Earthliving_Target.ogg"). Phew nice to know what that one is it was annoying greatly.

Re: Sound: Weapon switch
There's a different set of sounds for each weapon type, which ones did you need? |

Sound: Weapon switch
hey there,
i need you guys to mute another sound: i am playing warrior and got 2 sets in my equipment manager ingame saved, and they just change my weapons. so set "1" equips my two-hand and set "2" equips shield and 1hand. so one line in my macros (i macroed almost every button on my action bar) is like this: /equipset [spec:1]1;2 so in the end, this is fucking comfortable but is producing sounds every time i push the button, soo annoying. i need to get as much space in my macros as possible so "/script "mute sound"" -> "/script "return sound"" at start and end of my macros is not possible to use. just wanna get rid of this damn sound -.- so that's it hopefully you guys can help me! |

Hello!
Something odd: I installed the Jewelcrafting sound mute, but I still hear the scrape scrape scrape. Any idea? It's in the right folder (I've installed some other sound mute files previously, which worked for me.) |

Re: Wow map and bag sounds
Hai all.
Unless told otherwise you will need a .ogg and wav version for each sound muted. Copy the existing files already included and simply rename them. Do not change the file types or you may have problems.
Sound\\Interface\\iQuestLogOpenA Sound\\Interface\\iQuestLogCloseA Bags: Sound\\Interface\\iEquipmentContainerOpenA Sound\\Interface\\iEquipmentContainerCloseA
Sound\\Creature\\Zippelin\\ ZippelinLoop ZippelinAttack ZippelinDeath
It might be these you're talking about: Sound\\Spells\\Fizzle\\ FizzleFireA FizzleFrostA FizzleHolyA FizzleNatureA FizzleShadowA If these don't work be more specific, include the name of the trinket and try to find a trinket that shares the same sounds that can be easily obtained, if you only link a raid trinket (I don't raid) the chances are I'll never find it.
An Mp3 file can be found in the following folder included in the addon: Sound\\Music\\ZoneMusic\\ArgentTournament\\AT_HeraldEvent. Then use it to mute these. stormwind_highseas-moment stormwind01-moment stormwind02-moment stormwind03-moment stormwind04-zone stormwind05-zone stormwind06-zone stormwind07-zone stormwind08-zone stormwind_intro-moment Which login sounds are you trying to find? The cata login sounds are pretty quiet.

Wow map and bag sounds
Hello,
Is it possible to mute the map and bag sounds in this game? When opening the world map (m key) and my bag(s) there is this strange muffling sound and I hate it As I open them alot you can imagine how it starts to get on my nerves (almost as bad as that Worg sniff!). I wonder why Blizz doesn't allow for a selective mute to all sounds in this game... I've downloaded many sound muters so far but none seem to incorporate a mute for these two sounds, so I'm kinda hoping you might have a solution. Many thanks! Mag |

Trinket sound
Hi, firstly ty very much for this wonderfull work.
I just miss one sound, the one that the trinkets do, if its not ready yet, it gets very annoying if you spam a spell with the use 13 & 14 macro. I dont know how to call this sound but its something like a wind sound. It would be awesome if ya can add this sound2. cheers m8 |

Trying to find the sound for barking, not the pug one, there's one for a wolf named "Spot" in Theramore that on click- he barks, but I went to tame him he no longer barks on clicking, I removed all the non-combat sounds under "Wolf" but not finding where else it would be. I've also looked up 'bark' too, & only found an npc with the name 'bark' in it, & the beauty npc for her 'bark'.
I also just removed my 'creature' folder & logged in again & when I click on my tamed "Spot" he does bark again, so it's gotta' be somewhere in the creature folder, just not sure exactly where. Nevermind hehe was under "KyletheDog" ^_^

Delete the old sound folder before installing the new version. I've removed the music sound files. |
