ButgerStijl UI (Guild Wars 2)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v4.01
by: Butger [More]

FYI: I've recently 'kinda' re-made this with up-to-date mods.

About the Interface:

This interface is somewhat inspired by the 'Guild Wars 2' UI and is designed with any class/spec in mind. It aims to be fairly conventional but still offer all tools needed for high end play, such as buff/debuff trackers, cooldown counters, threat driven nameplates, improved tooltips, better resource tracking and decent raid frames. The thing is built with existing AddOns only, however some minor tweaks are applied in the code to make the addons match the visual style or behave more convenient.

Tips and Issues:

How to bind keys on the actionbars:

  • Type /dominos and click bind keys. Hover over any button and hit the key you want to bind.
  • Pro tip: Type / and copy this command: run for i = 1,120 do PickupAction(i) ClearCursor() end. It will clean all actionbars. Nice when you're setting up from scratch.

If you use 'Weakauras 2' already, but also want to use this UI:
  • Weakauras 2 is the backbone of this interface, if you want to use this UI there is no simple way to use your own weakauras settings. It's probably best to use a different addon for your custom auras.

Health orb does not fit correctly for some resolutions:
  • Type /rbbs, go to general > unlock all and use the left mouse button to move the orb around, right mouse to scale it correctly. After that, type /rbbs and go to general > lock all

Updating addons yourself:
  • If you are going to update addons yourself, which is totally possible, Grid will look a lot different and you'll need to manually load the profile ButgerStijl for /raven, /dominos and /tidyplates. Castbars will also get messed up, manually load the ButgerStijl profile, disable spell icons and remove the castButton and castGloss layers from /kgpanels. Do not ever update SharedMedia, or if you do, copy and replace all media from the old folder and copy all media paths in the lua.

Addons and Info:
  • Raid Frame be Gone - Hides the blizzard raidframe. Type /rfbg hide or /rfbg show.
  • Grid - Raid and party frames. Displays player spec at right bottom. Type /grid for options.
  • Clique - Use this to bind spells for use on Grid and other unit frames frames. It shows up as a tab in your spellbook.
  • Dominos - Actionbar mod. Type /dominos for settings.
  • Raven - All buffs and debuffs. Type /raven for settings.
  • Skada - Damage and healing meters. Type /skada toggle to show or hide.
  • Castbars - Castbar replacement mod. Castbars are movable, settings can be found in AddOnds menu.
  • Tidy Plates - Replaces the Blizzard nameplates. Type /tidyplates for options, it's important to set your roles in the TidyPlates config.
  • Shadowed Unit Frames - Frames for player, target, boss, etc. Type /suf for options.
  • Chinchilla - Minimap and minimap buttons. Type /chinchilla for options.
  • Masque - Button, buff and debuff styling.
  • Prat 3 - Chat mod.
  • Omni CC - Displays cooldown timers.
  • Shared Media - Media paths to all artwork.
  • kgPanels - Displays all artwork. Type /kgpanels for options.
  • Tiptac - Enhanced tooltips. Type /tiptac for options.
  • Weakauras 2 - Used for stealth, low hp and resource textures. Type /weakauras for options.
  • rBBS Orbsonly - The orb.
  • Errorfilter - Removes red text from the middle of the screen and places it in chat when important.
  • Postal - Adds take all mail button.

Update History:
  • v4.01 - Better install instructions, added postal.
  • v4.00 - Interface redesign, target frames, castbars, boss frames.
  • v3.00 - Updated for WoD. Some addons are scrapped.

Not sure what you mean here, but if anything I've noticed the minimap, healthorb and to some extent the actionbar became a lot less grungy in GW2. Ofcourse GW2 also has a lot of great art in the character panes, map, quest trackers, textballoons, etc. But these things are near impossible to alter in WoW without writing my own addons. (something I can't do at all, lol)

That being said, I don't plan to alter the look of things, to be honest in the end this UI doesn't resemble the GW2 UI thát much, the games are just too different and I'm limited by the use of existing Addons. So really my UI is somewhat of a compromise, it has the GW2 "feeling", but still has all the functionality you'd want in a custom WoW UI.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah i think the main thing i would really want the the target frames from GW2, there so sweet...

Here's some small additional things you can do without writing new addons etc.

Also, Here is a UI that someone made for WoW that is dead accurate, even got Castbar and Inventory right. (Using pure addons, no writing so said author)
Only problem is said person made it about a year ago and never shared the addon list and disappeared from the internet.
This may be too much to ask, but if you were to replicate this, I'd foresee top graphical UI downloaded in your future. Hell i'd be willing to help you out in anyway I could.
I can identify nibMicroMenu(Top Left), Satrina Buff Frames, ArkInventory, KGPanels, Carbonite (Quest Tracker), Bartender4 or Dominos, Chinchilla

Thanks for the feedback JamesR4494, I have a few thoughts about your posts:

  • In my current UI layout there's not really a good place for the micromenu, hence I've hidden it. (don't use it anyway) I'd really have to put the target frame in the middle in order to make this work.
  • The minimap is still on the top in my UI because there's less space on the bottom, and more important: it's an anchor for the buffs & debuffs on the player.
  • Which leads to the buffs placement: It's awesome to have it atop the HP orb, but what about the debuffs? Do they go there too? What about raid frames.. A lot of problems here..
  • I do in fact really want to have a similar target frame, but: The target frame also needs buffs/debuffs. On top of that I also want to know my targets powerbar, hp percentage, amount of mana, focus, energy. It also needs target of target and focus frames. Where does all that go... Lot's of issues here too.

  • I've come across this UI, and it does nail the GW2 layout very well. However if you look closer at the graphical details I think the quality is bad. I'd also love to know where he has put the raid-, targetoftarget-, pet- and focusframes. Buffs and debuffs (player ánd target) also seem missing. Probably this guy just played with the concept of it and never got around to making it work for any class/spec and situation. Only having 12 actionbuttons available on-screen would also seem sub-optimal for WoW, if not plain unplayable.

Anyway what I still really would like to do, and probably will sometime:
  • Incorporate the GW2 target frame somehow.
  • Make all borders/buttons in the UI less grungy, much more 'slim' lines like the GW2 one.
  • Perhaps add some color to the artwork, instead of all of it being black.
  • Map in right lower corner, this means the actionbars will change too to get some room.
  • Bring paging back for Druid forms and Rogues and Locks(??.. never played a Lock is it useful?)
  • Get rid off all the stuff in the middle (buffs/debuffs, targetcastbar) of the screen and place it somewhere better looking.
  • Another font... It's damn hard to find a good font for WoW though.

Update: At this point I've basically adressed all these things-to-do. Update is coming, still needs quite a bit of work though...

I like what I read about the changes coming to this UI. I originally thought it wouldn't be what I'm looking for, so I posted a request in the forums for one. But this sounds like it's coming along nicely.

But I notice you didn't mention anything about changing the shape of the minimap and making it re-sizable on the fly, just like chatboxes are in most MMOMRPGs. Because the latest change to the UI is a square map and it's re-sizable.

I will be participating in the last Guild Wars 2 beta, which starts on the 20th, and ends on the 22nd. I will take screenshots, and take notes of things for the UI, and let you know what I find.

This information and screenshots should help you out in the development of this UI. I'd like to support it because it seems like you're looking to turn it into the same thing I want.

EDIT: I have an idea for the debuffs, you were talking about. Why not put them only on the target of target, and put that target of target somewhere useful, so you will see it?

Here is a screenshot of it:

@ Rammoth

The idea with the debuffs will only work if he is the target of his target. If he's not, where should they go?

@ Butger

It's really easy to make the real standard GW2 Target Frames and put all the information in you need. You already did really good work with your artwork and shouldn't be a problem.

I personally love having big debuffs somewhere visible. They doesn't need to be near the buffs. But I have to admit, I dunno an alternative position in this layout.

All in all, really nice UI, I like it.

Not playing the beta myself, so I'm not very aware of the latest changes, however i did make the minimap square, it looks a lot better to me. The resize-on-the-fly won't be possible without an addon that supports this..

Currently i've attached them to the target-frame, i think it works and will probably keep it that way. (see screenshot)

I'll just post a screenie of my current build, i can image some people love it and others don't (big changes). It's still very much work in progress:

Thanks for the feedback.

Lightbulb Suggestion

Oh god, fantastic! I want it! Even if it's not exact, this looks amazing!

You definitely got it going in the right direction, I look forward to the next update! I will finally start using this UI with the next update for sure!

By the way, I have another suggestion:

Below I'll show you a screenshot of the Downed State in Guild Wars 2, I think it would look great as the Stealth system in the UI for Rogues and posibly vehicles:

Love this UI

Just curious if there are any plans for an XP/Rep bar similar to the one in GW2 and is there anyway to skin the micro menu. Besides that I love it and even the things i've listed can be gotten over xD. Looking forward to next release.

Repbar wouldn't be a problem, I guess.

@ Butger

I really, really like your new build. I wish I could play around with it
Currently I am getting my mix of yours and mine (LynUI) to run smooth on the beta realm.

Hi,
Great Work!!
But currently the Skada isn't implemented other Addons like Weakauras also stopped working in the new versions^^
Is there an option so we can drag& drop the Frames from Target, Focus and so on, so that we have our own perfect ui?

WeakAuras should work, are you sure you have the addon enabled?
Skada is not implemented yet as stated on frontpage, i'll check soon if it's updated.

For draggable frames i'd have to anchor both kgPanels and Raven to the Unit Frames, not sure if possible..

Ah, yes forgot to activate Weak Auras again because one Addon dropped my FPS to 9-14. Found out it was Raven after the update yesterday... FPS loss of 30-40 is crap.

€: Reinstalled the Addon.. now it seems to work normal again...
I got another question: Can Raven display a counter on the Buffs/ Debuffs of the Target and on the others? I like it more with numbers on it... anyway thanks for your time.

I notice there is no EXP bar at all, so when leveling an Alt, I have no idea what the EXP is at.

In the mean time I can set up another addon to use for EXP. However, I'd rather have one with the style from Guild Wars 2.
