RepByZone

Version: 1.19.0, Classic: 1.19.0

RepByZone

As you wander around Azeroth, your reputation bar will switch depending on where you are, not by which quest gave you a faction bump.

Inspired by:
Diplomancer by Phanx and Talyrius

Supports:
  • Zones by faction: Stormwind, Darkspear Trolls, Gnomeregan Exiles, Orgrimmar, etc.
  • Instances by faction: Hydraxian Waterlords, Brood of Nozdormu, etc
  • Battlegrounds by faction: Silverpike Guard, Warsong Outriders, etc
  • Subzones by faction: several little areas in various zones have pockets of faction hubs

Missing data:
If you find any subzones that have quest hubs I've missed, I need the text from the minimap in ENGLISH, your basic faction (Horde or Alliance), and the proper faction in ENGLISH to match. To get the instanceIDs for me: when you enter an instance that is missing a reputation or is incorrect, type into chat /run select(8, GetInstanceInfo()) and send me the number printed to chat.

Open the options:
  • /rbz
  • /repbyzone
  • ESC > Interface > AddOns > RepByZone

Localization:
RepByZone has its own localizations and uses LibAboutPanel-2.0's.

Known Issues:
  • In some rare cases, characters have not learned their racial or class reputation because they have not interacted with an NPC from that faction. This causes the Default Watched Reputation menu to have nothing selected. For example, my Rogue has never interacted with Ravenholdt. I could go down the rabbit hole and provide workarounds, but upon testing, this proved to be a bad idea. Please check this menu when you first log into a character, and if required, select a Default Watched Reputation if you wish. Not selecting one will do no harm, and once your character learns the reputation, RepByZone will fix itself.
  • The Burning Crusade Classic (quasi-supported in RBZ alpha testing) most likely has unique uiMapIDs, which will be different than Retail WoW's uiMapIDs for the same zones, and quite possibly WoW Classic as well. WoW Classic and WoW Retail have different uiMapIDs for Stormwind, Orgrimmar, etc. For this reason, TBC beta only has data for subzones and instances.
  • It is not possible to display zone or subzone data for reputations the character has not yet discovered. Examples would be Gurubashi Arena and Bloodsail Buccaneers faction, or Arathi Highlands and Wildhammer Clan faction. Once a character gains or loses any amount of reputation with that faction and moves around the zone, RBZ will update. Discovering the faction may require the character to explore other zones or even continents.

RepByZone
1.19.0 (2021-04-21)
Full Changelog Previous Releases
  • [Retail] Oribos is partially working. Either move to subzones or reload your UI to watch your Covenant rep
  • [Classic] ToC bump for patch 1.13.7
  • [All] Bugfixes and typos
  • [All] Switch SVs to a profile per character system
  • [TBC and Retail] Update some data
  • [All] Fix db == nil error
  • [Retail] Delete references to removed factions
  • [TBC] Add instance data
  • [Alpha] Y'know, actually load files in ToC...
  • [Retail] Fix invalid .pkgmeta name
  • [All] Create alpha build for testing
  • [Classic & TBC] Organize instanceIDs for my sanity
  • [All] Clean up Core-Xxxx.lua files
  • [All] Rework folder structure to sanity
  • [TBC] Start work on adding TBC compatibility
  • [Both] Rewrite faction application code for more effeciency. I cached data tables because they don't ever change. Also, don't apply instance data if player is not in an instance, and don't apply zone data if the player is in an instance
  • [Both] Okay, last clean up of subzones for now
  • [Both] Yet more additions and corrections. The reason this is happening is because I *finally* got a working tooltip for the subzone database, showing which areaIDs are in which zone or instance. Hopefully I am done, but corrections are welcome
  • [Both] Various additons and corrections
  • [Retail] Add or update subzones for MoP
  • [Classic] Use the old factionID for Wildhammer Clan

Re: Re: Re: Re: Excellent!

That sounds good. Appreciate the clarification and will try to keep an eye out for any oddities.

As to the changelog - it is mighty fine as it is, in fact, it is more detailed than many of them out there.

=)

Noted that in SW the factions changes to IF when entering dwarven district - is that intended? Know some NPCs there are allied with IF, but not all. Perhaps just a trade-off, as it makes sense to have it one way or another? More curious as to your process than anything.

I'm glad you are enjoying RepByZone so far. I'm still working on it, tweaking zones and associated reputations, adding subzones, etc.
Ha ha thanks about the changelogs. I debated on being more specific, but with so many subzones, that would make each changelog a long list.

As for Stormwind and the Dwarven District, yes, that is intended, just like Tinker Town in Ironforge, plus a couple in Orgrimmar for the Trolls and Tauren. Yes, there are other races represented in the districts, but I had to make a broad call. There are more humans in that place than any other race, but it is called the "Dwarven District" so I went with the name. If I could break it down even smaller I would, but there is no API to get the well the the Gnome, or the shops with the Humans.

The point of RepByZone isn't that questgivers provide X reputation in a given area, rather RBZ is location-based. As far as I know, the quests in Dwarven District provide equal rep with Stormwind and Ironforge factions, while Tinker Town is equal for Ironforge and Gnomeregan Exiles. I was thinking about making Coldridge Valley associated with Gnomeregan Exiles, but there are just as many Dwarven NPCs and players in that area, so left it as Ironforge.

Basicially, my thought process is "if this part of the map is associated with X faction, then watch X faction." I'm always looking for corrections and updates.
