Scrolling Combat Text  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 7.1
by: Grayhoof [More]

Please post all errors and suggestions on http://grayhoof.wowinterface.com/ using the provided forms.

Be sure to check out my simple but enhanced combat log EavesDrop

Also check out SCTD if you want SCT to show your damage.

What is it? - A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel.

What can it do?

- Damage messages
- Heals (incoming and outgoing) and Overhealing (with healer ID's), with filtering for small heals.
- Spell Damage/Resists and Damage Type
- All "Miss" events (dodge, block, immune, etc...)
- Custom Colors for all text events
- Config file to setup custom events (self and target), capture data, and display it.
- Debuff/Buff gain and loss Messages
- Low Health and Mana Warnings with values, and optional sounds
- Rage/Mana/Energy Gains
- Enter and Leave Combat Messages
- Rogue Combo Points, 5 CP Alert Message
- Class Skill alerts (Execute, Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...)
- Honor, Reputation, Skill Gain
- Eight Animation Types (Verticle, Rainbow, Horizontal, Angled Down, Angled Up, Sprinkler, Curved HUD, Angled HUD)
- Four Fonts
- Two seperate Animation frames, each with their own settings. Assign any Event to either.
- Ability to flag any event as critical or as a text messages
- Sliders for text size, opacity, animation speed, movement speed, and on screen placement (with custom editbox)
- Lightmode, for when you care most about performance (at the loss of a few features).
- Now Based in Ace3.
- Settings saved per character by default, but supports all Ace3 Profiles
- Load/Delete settings from another character. Load built in Profiles.
- Localized to work in almost all WoW clients.
How do I use it? - First unzip it into your interface\addons directory. For more info on installing, please read install.txt. Now just run WoW and once logged in, type /sctmenu to get the options screen.

SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA is used to setup custom message events. Please open up the file (notepad, etc...) and read the opening section to understand how to use it all.
PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FILE IN SCT. IF YOU DON'T READ IT AND USE IT, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A TON OF WHAT SCT HAS TO OFFER IN CUSTOMIZATION

/sctdisplay is used to create your own custom messages.
Useage:
/sctdisplay 'message' (for white text)
/sctdisplay 'message' red(0-10) green(0-10) blue(0-10)
Example: /sctdisplay 'Heal Me' 10 0 0 - This will display 'Heal Me' in bright red
Some Colors: red = 10 0 0, green = 0 10 0, blue = 0 0 10, yellow = 10 10 0, magenta = 10 0 10, cyan = 0 10 10

FAQ
How do I get My Crits or My Hits to show? I would suggest you get SCTD: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=4913

I don't understand what the 2 frames are for! - Each frame lets you set different features. So you can set frame one using Sprinker animation and Default font, while frame 2 can be using Veritcle animation and Adventure font. You can then assign each event to a specfic frame using the radio buttons next to the events.

There's too many options. Help someone new see how things work! - Try out some of the new built in profiles. While on the options screen, click the "Profiles" button. At the top of the window will be a listing of some default profiles to try out. Maybe you'll fine one you like or it will spark some ideas for you to try.

How do I change the fonts? - You can now select from many fonts on the options page. You can also change the font of message and apply the font to the in game damage font used for your damage (requires relog)

I don't like friendly nameplates on. How do I make my heals appear over who I heal? - Friendly nameplates have to be on in order to show your heals. SCT will turn them on if you turn on the option, but you must manually turn them off if you don't like it (see Target keybindings).

I don't like the new spell icons, how do I turn them off? - There is an option to turn them off under the spell tab.

Re: aura fades

charon2, I will have the fixed next release.

Farmbuyer, I'm in the middle of a total re-write of custom event code. The underlying code is done, but I am now creating a UI to manage all custom events. It is about 60% done at this point. Probably within a week or so I will have a new version of SCT out that should remove all the issues you are seeing with custom events.

You didn't even try to read the "addon info" tab, did you?

Hello. I'm using a custom event entry like this, so I can see how often I'm taking crits:

[2] = {display="physical crit", type="DAMAGESELF", critical=1, r=1,g=0,b=0, override=false, frame=SCT.MSG, class={"Druid","Warrior","Shaman"}},

I'd been using something similar pre-2.4, matching against a careful pattern, with no problems. Now it's occasionally firing even though I'm not taking crits.

With SCT 6, it would seem to fire anytime I was resisting magic damage or dealing critical hits to multiple mobs (e.g., Swipe in bear form). I say "seem to fire" because it's hard to reproduce. In any case, the combat log wasn't showing any incoming crits at all, but that entry was matching.

Using 6.01, the event is matching whan I *do* take critical hits, but it's also incorrectly matching when I'm dealing crits against multiple mobs. For example, if I'm in bear and fighting three mobs, and Swipe all three, and happen to land a crit while dodging their blows, I'll still get a "physcial crit" in the middle of my screen while taking no damage.

(I have another custom entry that displays an alert when I take a crushing blow, and it's not matching at all. But that's a separate problem.)

aura fades

many of the buffs/auras that fade do not scroll down in the correct frame. i cant figure out why this is.

edit: it worked fine until i recently updated from one post 2.4 version to the newest one

edit2: tested it some more and it seems that the buff fades are not only using the color of the buff gains (as the tooltip indicates) but using the same frame as well, even though i have them set in the menu to different frames.

Hi, about druid hots and lifebloom

hello I'm unsure if this has been questioned before. but how to show druid hots on my TARGET NAMEPLATE, or lifebloom ticks. I checked "Show on nameplate" and "Show your hots" but still i cannot find a way to show the hots on my target... it just all shows on myself... like

Name-blah: +150 lifebloom
name-blah: +150 lifebloom
other-name: +150 lifebloom

and etc. It's all on myself, and I just dislike that spam, I like it to show on the nameplate of each target if they got a hot from me.thanks

SCT custom event soulshard!

Hi,

i dont really know whats happening but the "Soulshard!" event doesnt get kicked off anymore. Maybe its due to the fact that it doesnt show any message in the log anymore? At least the search="You (.+) Soulshard" isnt doing anything anymore. All i get from the logs now if i get a soulshard is "You create: [Soulshard]." in the mainchatwindow - thats it. The combatlog shows nothing.

Maybe you can point me to something wich will work?

My regards.

Yes, that was it. I didn't even realize sct_cooldowns was there to use. Would you be able to add a simple config menu for sct_cooldowns and sct_spellready in the main sct menu? I'm just happy to find another way sct makes playing the game better.

Thanks for the reply.

something odd

Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me!

I edited my message because I fixed the problem.

The problem is I had 2 World of Warcraft folder. One in the Program Files, and another in the C:\Users\*UserName*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft.

I know I only installed WoW once...Not sure why i had 2. The second WoW folder only has the folder structure, not the actual game. I bought the TBC online, maybe thats why it created those folders. Anyway, the 3 AddOn that were giving me troubles were in the AddOns folder of that WoW folder, so it was conflicting with the real WoW AddOns folder.

Oh well, at least it's fixed

Hi, I have a quick question.

I would like words to show up on the screen when my character has certian debuffs. Not only that, but I would also like it to show the time remaining on those debuffs. Is that possible?

Example: Mortal Strike is up! (00:04)
