Perl Classic Unit Frames  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 10.07
by: Global [More]

If you like this mod, please vote for it!

What is Perl Classic?
Perl Classic Unit Frames are a complete rewrite of the original mods by Perl. They replace the default Player, Pet, Target, Target of Target, Party, and Party Pet frames and add dedicated frames for many other units (Focus, Focus Target, Party Target, Target of Target of Target). It has been a high priority to maintain the look and feel or the original Perl mods while expanding functionality. The mod has been recoded for performance and is built around the Blizzard UI usage of events.

Q&A
-----

Q: I'm seeing double party buffs for some reason, what gives?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by CT_PartyBuffs. Simply remove the mod and you will return to having one set of party buffs.

Q: I am having massive dead spots for clicking on some of the unit frames, what's wrong?
A: This can be caused by a number of mods, but the most common seems to be CT_MovableParty. Please remove this mod as Perl can be moved without the use of this mod.

Q: The default party frames are showing up with red lightning bolts. What's going on?
A: As of version 1.503 of CT_RaidAssist this should no longer be caused by CTRA. The settings for this are now located in the WoW settings under Interface Options -> Basic -> Raid -> Hide Party Interface.

Q: Do you support ArcaneBar?
A: Yes, it is included in your download of Perl Classic.

Q: Will you be adding any features to Perl_PlayerBuff?
A: No, my coding for this mod goes as far as making sure it 'works.' If anyone would like to expand upon it, feel free to do so.

Q: Where are the raid frames?
A: As of 2.0 I no longer code raid frames for Perl Classic. Luckily, X-Perl's raid frames work great alongside Perl Classic. X-Perl's raid frames (and the unit frames themselves) can be found here: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/

Q: The scaling is all messed up! What do i do?
A: I recommend setting the scale to that of the UI if you are having issues. Open the options menu via "/perl" or the Black Pearl icon on the minimap and set the scale accordingly under the "All" tab.

Q: I am having an issue not listed in this FAQ, what can I do?
A: First, update *every* mod. I do not support ancient outdated and unmaintained mods. If you have double checked that everything is up to date, post on any of the Perl Classic mod pages and I'll be glad to help you narrow down the issue or give suggestions to help find a solution.

Q: Can you add this feature?
A: I'm sure it's possible, but the primary purpose of this mod is to 'modernize' the original Perl mod so that it doesn't slow your game down.

I do have one feature request that a lot of other mods have that would be great to have in perl classic and that is a range check, esp useful for heals/deubufs, etc.

Maybe changing frame opacity or border color if the party member or target (pet, forcus, whatever frame) are out of range?

that would be awesome thanks.
I believe that if you use BeneCaster ( http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=3606 ) alongside Perl that this functionality is added. Hope that helps!

@Borrie: I haven't used X-Perl in a very long time. There are many differences between the two mods, but some of the bigger ones are more buff/debuff options, raid frames, misc raid tools, frame highlighting, and a bunch of other stuff. Honestly, just install X-Perl alongside Perl Classic and you can do a real time side by side comparison. Despite all of the additional features it has, for me personally, it comes down to how it looks. X-Perl offers the Nymbia style of display, I offer the original (and for better or worse) larger frames. Just comes down to personal preference in the end Both are excellent mods.
First of all thanks for the fast respond.
I just tested both of them and I must say prefer X-Perl because of all the extra features and I like how it looks but looks aren't much different then yours to be honest.

kind regards...

Hi there!

I love the looks of this and will be testing it soon, but can you tell me:
What is the difference between this one and "X-Perl UnitFrames"

Polarity Shift

Im a long time user of perl classic UF and I love them. I'v had no real problems with them even when I get carried away with too many additional mods. The only annoyance I'v come across is as follows;

Heroic Mechanar..During the Mechano-Lord Capacitus event, I can't see anyones polarity after the "polarity shift".

I'v messed with the setting for weeks hoping I'd stumble into it. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Thanks Global!!

Yeah it's just kinda weird behavior. It all works perfectly on mobs and stuff, but when i target horde in shattrath, i get their buffs floating really far down below the frame. I haven't found any horde in contested areas yet to test if the same thing happens, but i'll be sure to let you know if there's anything different.

/salute

@speak: This isn't a bug or problem really. It comes down to a matter of preference at this point, which I fully understand. Once things IRL slow down a bit I'll probably make this an option to toggle for the target frame (and maybe the focus frame). Once February rolls around I should have quite a bit more time to put back into coding, which hopefully will be Perl Classic 3.x. There's still a few things I wouldn't mind getting into the 2.x version as long as it doesn't take a huge chunk of time. So basically, if I find the time I'll gladly add this in

Exclamation TargetFrame: Buff/Debuff Icon Weirdness

Since patch 2.3, everyone can now see everyone else's buffs & debuffs. Mobs, NPCs, and Players (friendly and hostile) are all included.

I'm getting some weird behavior with the positioning of buffs & debuffs on my Target frame.

Here's an example of this "weirdness":

and here's the link to the pic with my target settings.

you can see how the target's Buff is "hanging off" the frame. shouldn't it be attached to the frame itself?

here's what i need, basically default behavior.

if target has buffs only, they're flush against the bottom of the frame.
if target has debuffs only, they're flush against the bottom of the frame but w/red border.
if target has buffs & debuffs, buffs are flush agains the bottom of the frame, and debuffs are underneath the buffs, colored with a red border.

is this possible?

Thanks so much!!

Please only post your question on 1 of my mod pages, not all of them in the future. Unfortunately, that's exactly how it should work. I may go back one day and add window position saving to the standard information saved with your character. Right now it just uses the layout-cache.txt file for saving frame positions. I wanted to add this in 3.x, but with that taking more and more time and me having less and less, it may just be easier to bring some of this over to 2.x.

Me too. I always saw it both in cat form and on my rogue. Out of stealth and out of combat the thing was ticking away.

Just letting you know you weren't imagining things.

Re: Broken Energy Ticker

Not sure what happened, but I just noticed today that my energy ticker does not work any longer. It will show up when I enter combat, but as soon as I'm out of combat it disappears again.

I've tried deleting my saved variables and starting over from scratch, and it will work until I shift out of cat form, log out, or zone, and will not work again until I delete the saved variables. I haven't made any recent changes to my add-ons, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Any ideas?
That sounds strange indeed. The 2 conditions for it to be visible are to be in combat, or to be stealth. I just tested it and I'm not having any issues with it.
