MetaMap  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 20100-2
by: MetaHawk [More]

DESCRIPTION:
============
MetaMap adds features to the WoW world map, keeping all mapping type features in a single place.
Some features are:

Adjust the map window size.
Move the map anywhere on the screen.
Adjust the opacity of the window & maps.
Saved sets for toggling between 2 map modes.
Allows full player movement, messaging, etc. with map open.
Adds coords to the main map and the Minimap
Adds Instance maps which open to the correct instance you enter.
Default data included for all bosses & locations etc.
User editable notes for all maps, including instance maps.
NPC/Mob database collectable by mouseover or keypress.
Toggling on/off display of unexplored areas of the map.
Boss Loot Tables displays all the loot dropped by bosses, and more.
Waypoint system to guide you to any set point.
Complete Quest logger with optional history database.
Tracker module for gathering Herbs/Ores etc.
NoteBook module for additional notes, linked to Tooltips.
Inbuilt Import and export facilities for various data formats.
Inbuilt Backup and Restore facilities.
Button on Minimap to open or close the World Map or display MetaMap options.
Key bindings for various MetaMap functions.
Full support for Titan Bar.

INSTALLATION:
=============
Extract ALL folders in the archive to the Interface\AddOns\ location. If you wish the Instance maps to be populated with default information, then on first installation you will need to select 'Extended Options' from the MetaMap menu.
Select the 'Database' tab, then click 'Load Imports'. This will enable the default import button, 'Import Instance Notes'. Click on the 'Import' button to import the data.

ISSUES/COMPATIBILITIES:
=======================
Some addons may reset the map to gather location data.
If your map continuously jumps back to your current location when selecting another map,
it will be due to another addon resetting it. In most cases the authors have made changes
to correct this so, download the latest version of any conflicting addon.

This used to work in the older versions, but some reason not the newer one. If I hide the mini notes and lines the maplist won't even show up at all. I still can access the KB, but can't get the loot tables from there nor will it show stuff that is on the maplist, because I havn't moused over it yet.
I don't quite see how it worked in older versions, as the MapList has always only shown the notes that are actually on the map. No way to display it any other way.
And why not simply remove all those notes and lines that are cluttering the map?
Shouldn't be that many there for instance maps?

To the point: Would it be possible to include the Mapnotes.lua file in the download?

I had one at one time, but I lost it in a WoW restore (chat broke from another mod and it was the only way i could find to fix it) It seems like I had gotten the original file from an older version of Metamap, but it's no longer being included.
Umm, MapNotes.lua has never been included with MetaMap. It's a user saved data file produced by the old MapNotes addon. MetaMap can import that however, if you have one.

I noticed in the screenshots that MetaMapWKB logged the info of mobs and players on mouseover. When the addon gathers the mouseover's info, is it's true location gatherered or your own location at the time of the mouseover. Basically if I were to mouseover a mob at long distance, would the location data be off. And is it possible to make it not gather players and enemy mob data? Seems as though this would very quickly cloter the DB.

There is absolutely no way another unit's location can be obtained so, it is indeed based on your own location. Hence the reason why I added the target distance option. The lower you set that, the more accurate the location is.

You can set a combination of options in the Extended options to give you the exact capture method you need. First, you can set it to capture by mouseover, or manual keypress. The auto capture feature toggles between the two. Then, you can elect to only capture it to the database, only set it as a map note, capture it to both, or turn it off altogether. Having turned it off altogether, you can still over-ride that by pressing the CTRL + keybinding combination.

The previous version I could hide the mapnotes, but still see the full maplist. If I try it in this version the maplist won't appear. I just want to be able to see the loot tables and KB won't allow me to. I know where everything is already and don't need lines going whatever which way accross my maps and dots cluttering locations lol. It's nice feature, but annoying. The named mobs have the same marker as normal mobs, but if they was recorded with a different marker it wouldn't be so bad. I'm thinking i'll have to just get a different addon though. Unless anyone can figure this thing out lol.

Having a bit of a job here understanding the exact nature of your problem tbh.
If you don't want loadsa notes and lines on your map, why put them there in the first place then?? And why not remove them if you don't want them there??
And how is the KB not allowing you to see Loot tables? They are not related. I'm guessing here that perhaps you have the KB set to add map notes as you mouseover? If that's the case, and you don't want them, why not turn off the auto capture?

This is good to know, Metahawk. I would suggest putting a note to that effect on the Extended Options screen. I had it set to infinite, but now I'm reducing it.

This is (by far) the best Map Addon in the game. I really appreciate all your hardwork on this addon. I started playing WoW about 2 months ago and this addon + Thottbot has really made life a lot easier. Have you thought about putting anything for Quest support? IE--The ability to create/group a bunch of notes together under a quest heading. For quests that have multiple steps, it would be cool to be able to pull up a dialog box and input coords/names for each of the steps--and then be able to toggle that specific quest on/off as needed.

I have also been reading your remarks about Fubar 2.0 and the embedded libraries. I'm in agreement with you

The irony is that they are creating embedded libraries to encourage user adoption for people who complained about having to install Ace seperately. I, personally, am running into all kinds of trouble getting it to work with my other Addons and I despise the idea of all the wasted space in installing the same thing multiple times. Add to the fact that I am still more than a bit skeptical that loading the same Addon multiple times won't result in a performance hit and I am very UNINTERESTED in installing Ace2 or Fubar 2.0 apps.

The reasoning for the embedded libraries is crazy. It is ridiculous to think people can't figure out how to install Ace or shy away from it for performance (the Ace description is all about resource effciency for crying out loud). If there are those naysayers, then they are in the minority and don't read directions very well. Not to mention that Blizzard has in-game support for viewing dependencies the Addon needs.

Anyway, please keep backward compatibility of your app for Fubar 1.2.

Oh...something buggy I noticed last night in the new version. If I attach MetaMap to the Minimap through Fubar AND I already have one up on the Minimap, then it shows up twice.

Keep up the great work

There is a KB on Curse Gaming that has a bunch of mobs. In my experience, it has a fairly good DB of NPCs, but a not-so-great DB for mobs. However, I play Horde and apparently the larger majority of players who contributed to the KB played Alliance.

Sid you are really off the mark regarding embedded libraries. First of all if you don't want each addon with embedded libraries to load the embedded library you can optionally use those libraries as external libraries just like the old days then those addons will use the externals and won't load the embedded libraries. Second of all while each addon will load their embedded libraries at logon, only one copy of the libraries used are left in memory after the first garbage collection so it is a single small hit up front. Third the idea of embedded libraries is to only load what you need and not load what you don't but in the past these external libraries loaded all of their functions into memory whether they were used or not which is now a thing of the past and it will improve memory use and performance.

I use 29 different Ace2 addons and I have zero problems with them and my memory and performance is noticably better than when I used Ace1 and non-Ace versions of these addons.

Getting a bug with patch 1.12. When I open the map, it shows up full screen (ie huge) until i click in options and toggle between display modes. The wierd thing is, the interface options screen also opens up in full screen now.

Am aware of the problem, and will look at this as soon as i've installed the new patch, so I can see what last minute changes they slipped in there.

Most likely because you're running an addon which still makes the bugged call to the WorldMap. I would guess at Atlas.

Not tracking resources

Love the addon.... Having a new issue now where it refuses to record the location of any resources I gather, be it herbs, ore, etc. I also run YAtlas and CT MapMod, which I have both disabled, I've also tried just MapMod, and that hasn't worked either. Going to attempt to remove the MapMOd.lua from the Saved Variables, just in case something happened to that file. I'm just curious if you've seen something like this before and if there's a quick (read: obvious) fix? Noted it started happening after the 1.12 patch.

Thanks
