Version: 5.7.138
by: Mikord, Resike

Announcements:

  • Version 5.7.134 is updated to work with Warlord of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 and fixes the font preview issues.
  • If you are having issues with the fonts "resetting" on initial game load, update to Version 5.7.137.
  • Version 5.7.138 corrects issues with several triggers like Kill Shot and Hammer of Wrath.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

I too have noticed that sometimes that the text scrolling will be a little jerky, it's odd because most of the time it's perfectly smooth, just sometimes it won't scroll up completely smoothly and it kinda jerks a little.

! That's what you call a quick dev ! Thanks for the reply

I just did a test, with only Parrot and MSBT enabled for addons, and there were no difference really. When I re-enabled all my addons, MSBT is a little "jerky" as you say, in comparison.
So I've come to the conclusion that Parrot gets the priority over many addon events, allowing itself to be displayed the smoothest possible, but at the cost of additionnal memory used. Lots of.
As I don't have a good computer, your addon is way more suited to my needs, and I can live with 2-3 frames missing ! Because the exact moment where MSBT frames are missing, are the same moments where my computer "lags" dur to a lack of memory. Meaning when I'll get new parts for my computer, this issue will be gone.

Thanks for your diligent developpment, looking forward for future updates.

Gibbon:

For the smoothness, are you sure it's not just a difference in how quickly the text scrolls? The faster the text moves in a given period of time, the more pixels it has to move every frame. Too many pixels per frame can make it appear "jerky." You can slow it down some with the animation speed slider.

If changing the animation speed isn't your issue, is there any chance you can take a video with both mods installed scrolling side-by-side (ie move the scroll area over slightly so they are both visible), so I can see exactly what you're experiencing differently?

For the second part, I have never seen it do that, but I will look into the ordering of things and see what's going on there. EDIT: I think I just figured out what might be causing the text to appear in the wrong spot for a split second. It *should* be fixed in the next rev coming out shortly.

Hello, just a quick question.

I tried (one more time, last time was 1 year ago) MSBT today, in order to replace Parrot which has become a huge memory-eater these past months (probably due to lack of updates of libraries and stuff).
Only thing I miss is the smooth animation... Is there a way to increase the smoothness of the text displays (yeah I know, at the cost of some memory) ? I tried the throttling settings, no success.
There is still some flickering in the way the text moves. Sometimes the text even displays a split second where it shouldn't be, before being in the right place.

I know I'm not really clear on this *issue* I have, but I would like to know if there is a way to completely seduce me with this addon

Stuck:

From the change log:
  • Modified cast success and summon trigger events to include recipient conditions. Unfortunately cast start events do not report recipient information, so it is not available for them.

You're correct. That information isn't reported. Many authors have noted this before as well. If a bunch of people make a request for it on Blizzard's UI and Macros forum they might add it. I suspect it's not there because not all spells have actual targets (AoE spells mainly), but they could just report it when its known and leave it blank when it's not.

Mikord, I have to say I love your addon, especially the triggers, I have a question though, is it possible to get the destName from a CAST_START in a combat log event? I selected cast start for the event in the trigger and went to add a conditional and noticed I couldn't make a conditional for the recipient's name/reaction/control/etc. I was hoping to have it alert me whenever someone began casting a certain spell on me. Does CAST_START not return destName/GUID/etc?

Thank you for this great addon. =)

Try temporarily disabling your other mods. It's a conflict.

Lane:

There isn't one currently available, but since there is a combat log event for it, I will add a main event to the trigger system for it. That way you can create a trigger for it.

Skill Refresh?

Is there an event for when a skill is refreshed without expiring?
For example I have Pain and Suffering on my Shadow priest and it gives a chance for Mindflay to refresh the duration of SW: Pain. The only Combat log message is SW: Pain is refreshed.

Mikari:

Good point. I guess technically it should obey the exclusive skill names setting in that instance as well.

You could do it manually by disabling the exclusive skill names checkbox and removing the %s event codes from the output damage messages. That way it would display the verbose output for everything except the specific events you don't want it on. You wouldn't need to disable icons for the other areas if you did this either (in other words you can have both the icon and the verbose name). This is probably what you really wanted to begin with.

I'll make it obey the exclusive skill names setting on a per scroll area basis in the next drop though.

Being able to enable/disable icons in the different scroll areas doesn't seem to work how I'd expect, the reason I wanted the ability to selectively show icons is that I wanted the text to be verbose in the notification, static, incoming scroll areas but just icons in the outgoing scroll area, the problem is that disabling icons in all areas but outgoing still has the names of spells etc removed in the other scroll areas.

I have considered that and will probably ultimately add it disabled by default. There are a few other things that I want to get to first though. I'll probably do it as a part of the comprehensive cooldown system update I have planned (Pet cooldowns, trinket cooldowns, finer grained control, etc).
