Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.


Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.

Healing crits...

I have the latest version of MSBT and I am still getting all my heals cast on me and ones i cast as crits no matter what.

Ensure you're running the latest version (5.4.63) , you don't have the healing threshold set too high on the spam control tab, and that you have healing events enabled on the events tab.

Blizzard must have changed the load on demand function calls around. It used to simply print a message that the module couldn't be loaded versus dumping an error.

EDIT: Confirmed. There is a bug in Blizzard's UIParentLoadAddOn call. I'll make some updates to avoid calling their routine.

Bug with latest version and 3.2

Since upgrading to 5.4.63 after the 3.2 patch release, every attempt to use /msbt now produced the following error stack:

If you're not familiar with how to do that, type /combatlog to enable logging. Pop deterrence and capture the events that aren't being detected. Type /combatlog again to disable it. Logout of WoW and check for the Logs\WoWCombatLog.txt file.

Is there a Deflect event enabled in MSBT?

I can't get the spells my hunter uses deterrence on to show up (even though the event appears in my log)

I suspect Blizzard has added a combat log event regardless of whether or not it healed for any whereas previously one was only reported when an actual heal took place. That's unfortunate, but you should be able to filter it out by raising the healing threshold to a value greater than zero on the Spam Control tab. I'll look into it further as soon as I can.

EDIT:

I've confirmed that Blizzard made all periodic heals (even when full) report to the log whereas before it didn't. I'll see about making a change to detect this condition and ignore it since I feel like it's useless spam. In the mean time, you can use the technique posted above to filter it.

Well I dunno if this is new or not, but I don't remember this happening. It keeps showing my Warlocks Fel armor heal ticks when it heals for 0. I dunno if its been like this or not, I remember it showing fel armor ticks, just not when it healed for 0 when I'm sitting at full health.

I haven't seen the old SCT in years, so I'm not exactly sure how the animation style you are talking about looks. Is it a rainbow type of arc (like the upper half of a circle)?

On the scroll width think of the anchor points of the text. The text will move all the way through the scroll area relative to that point. For example, consider left-aligned text with a right horizontal animation style. The leftmost point of the text will start at the leftmost point of the scroll area and continue to the rightmost point. The same is true of every alignment/style pair adjusted accordingly. In the case of alternating text, the text is right-aligned relative to the center point for those on the left and left-aligned relative to the center point for those on the right.

Your point is taken on the way the scroll width is expanded, however the issue is more that the expected behavior is different depending on which animation style and alignment is chosen. For right moving horizontal text, you would probably expect the scroll area width to expand to the right, for left moving horizontal text you would likely expect the opposite, and for alternating text (as you're suggesting) you would expect simultaneous expansion in both directions. The problem with that would be when you change the animation style (or alignment), the entire scroll area would have to move due varying expansion directions. Due to this I left it up to the user to move the areas where they want.

What I suggest is that when you increase the scroll area width also subtract half of the additional width from the x position. This has the exact same effect of what you're suggesting regarding expanding in both directions from the center line. For example, consider the case where the notification area is set to 300 and you want it equidistant about the center of the screen. You can set its X position to -150.

Is there any way of reproducing the Arc text animation style found in the old ScrollingCombatText addon? The Parabola is nice and all, but it takes up too much of my visible field during play for me to like it, and the Angled style is just a straight angle, not an arc.

Parabola works well with those that have a dual parabola type HUD UI, but not as well with no HUD for a UI.

The customization options are very impressive for this addon (I'm a new MSCBT user as SCT is now broken as of 3.2 with no maintainer). I do have one suggestion though. The "scroll width" visual indicator during configuration doesn't quite match up with what actually comes out. Currently the scroll width is increased in one direction only, instead of using a centerline absolute and expanding in both directions on the scroll axis from that centerline to better visualize where the text will go (especially in alternating mode).

The Blizzard built in FCT's "Arc" type is basically your Angled type, only it goes up only, and it's like you (or more aptly the client) is playing stoned and it's SLOW. That and it doesn't actually arc.

I know this is a fairly big request, as it requires you to program in a new animation style. Perhaps we can put it on the "wish list"?

(FYI, the reason I'm so picky about my UI is that I have only one eye to see with - centerline notifications arcing are the easiest visual indicators for me, preferrably not spam controlled or merged).
