Cadence

Version: 02.05.04.00.R
by: Garland [More]

.: Cadence - Second Milestone :.

In ages past, there was an interesting little mod called Ascend, it used running cadences for amusement and I enjoyed it. This mod is an effort to drag Ascend kicking and screaming into the future, so to speak. It's been retooled to use Ace2, along with FuBar & Niagara. Overall the interface is much more friendly now (thanks to FuBar & Niagara) and I look forward to building up its database with the submissions I'll hopefully get here.

The zip includes a manual which fully details everything Cadence does and how to use it, along with a changelog which updates with every version, detailing what was added, changed and fixed.

(For those who might be wondering about the Google Docs versions, I've stopped uploading them. They were just too messy and I didn't want to continue to subject people to them, especially when the versions in the zip are so much more nice and just as easy to read.)

Wasn't working with it... just saw Cadence, read the description, and started trolling. Gonna hafta dig up my old SV's and do some translating...

Thanx for doing this. Missed Ascend a lot.

Kayde - I just had to. Ascend was a unique little thing, too much so to fall by the wayside forgotten. I welcome any new scripts you can think up and in fact, if you can ponder any new functionality, let me know and I'll try and work it in. I just do just about anything that needs doing with those [bracketed sentences].

OttoDeFe - Sure I'll get that in. Oh and I wasn't aware that anyone else was working with Ascend, sorry. It was just one of those things where I had an old zip of it lying around on my hard drive and I kept thinking to myself that I had to do something with it, so I did. I'll get that script in anyway and release a new version momentarily and I'm sure the syntax is fine.

(Edit): Whoops, this is to reply to your edit, Otto. Anyway, yeah, you can put cadences in the user data but anyone can feel free to suggest them so they'll find their way into the defaults file. I don't mind including new cadences at all and it just makes the experience more rich for those who aren't writers of any kind (not even horrible writers like myself).

been trolling thru the old Ascend thread... updated an ol' fav a bit... If you like, just cut/paste to the end of the Cadence_Data_Defaults file. Always being sure to check syntax, of course!

Code:
["(Night Elf) TBParty"] = {
"grins sheepishly as something rings. [Channel: emote]",
"Sorry guys. Mind if I take this?",
"pulls out a small device, holding it to his ear. [Channel: emote]",
   "Hello?",
   "Thrall! Buddy! Dabu!",
"Nah, haven't been able to changes factions yet. [Emote: laugh]",
"Yeah, still stuck with these guys.",
   "Sure, we got totems now...",
"Huh - the Blood Elf thing working for you guys?",
"Hey, all I'm saying is last time we trusted them we lost the middle of a continent. [Emote: laugh]",
   "Anyway, what's up?",
"Hrm. In the Undercity? I dunno, man, I've never been much of an Undercity guy since that last time...",
   "Yeah, that one.",
"I told you that stuff wasn't drinkable.",
"I'm amazed you didn't piss green for the rest of the week.",
   "I don't even think that's possible, Thrall.",
"No, I'm pretty sure it's not the Undead burial soup.",
"But seriously, pal, you sure you can't have it moved to Thunder Bluff? It's always a blast there.",
"I could bring some Parachute cloaks, and make basejumping a part of it.",
"Good point... The other Orcs probably WOULD forget to wear the 'chutes...",
"Funny, yeah, but I don't think you'd want that on your record. Best if we stick with Orgrimmar.",
"Alright, Thrall. You take care of yourself. Don't let your meat loaf.",
"Sorry, Human joke. I don't get it either. See you then.",
"puts the item away. [Channel: emote]",
   "What?",
   "...What!?"
   },
**EDIT**

I guess the proper place for this is the user data file - please read the manual (unlike me!)

BRILLIANT!

You revived my long lost love! I suppose I will "have to" start writing new scripts for it once again... hehehe.

Yup, that's more than possible with the mod as it is now, at least if I understand you right. Basically, you and your friend would have to start your Cadences at the same time but with clever use of pauses, it would look interactive, as if you were having a conversation. You could even set up a pre-written stage-play with it.

(Edit): Oh, I will note that you'd have to write your own two sets of cadences to make up your conversation cadence but the manual explains how to do that so you shouldn't have any problems with it, if you have any questions about how it works though, feel free to ask.

Just out of curiousity. (I don't know much about wow mod limitations). Hypothetically, would it be possible to change the mod so that it could interact with other people running the mod? So if my guildmate and I went afk at the instance entrance we could start running a scripted dialogue.

I had a feeling it was something like that, thanks. I'll put a new version of Cadence out now, hopefully that'll fix the last of the library problems for all those who use embeds. Good job finding that!

Sure thing man

Anyways, I moved "Libs\AceOO-2.0\AceOO-2.0.lua" one line up in the toc file (it's second in the loading list now) and it seems to have fixed the problem.

That's ... weird. Yeah, I did include AceOO. Well, just keep BugSack there for now if it helps you with it, BugSack is a great little utility for bug grabbing anyway and it can help with grabbing bugs in future.

Hopefully, tardmrr will drop by again. If not I'll send him a PM, I think I know what's wrong and I think it's down to load order. I'd ask the Ace2 people themselves but... I can't get an account to register on the WoWAce forums right now (I have tried, thrice... but the activation emails won't send, it keeps erroring out), so that's the best option I think.

I'm pretty sure it's down to load order though. What you can do if you really want to try it out is shuffle AceOO around in the toc, move it up to the top, down a few lines, down a few lines and so on until it works.

Another option is to grab standalones from http://files.wowace.com/ and delete the Libs folder from Cadence. That'll definitely clean up the error and don't worry about having Libs that Cadence doesn't use, they only load if they're called by a mod.

I just wanted to say though, thanks again for being patient and thanks for being good enough to download BugSack and try it out that way, I really do appreciate your effort and feedback.

So, when I load cadence I get:"...ce\AddOns\Cadence\Libs\AceAddon-2.0\AceAddon-2.0.lua:21: AceAddon-2.0 requires AceOO-2.0."
(I copied it by hand)

When I load !bugrabber and bugsack alongside cadence it runs fine. (The error sack was empty) It does look like you included AceOO-2.0 in the libs.

It's possible I forgot to include a lib.

Could you tell me what the error is? BugSack could facilitate in this, it makes obtaining and copying errors much easier. You can get it at the files.wowace.com site.

I can't seem to get it working. I dropped it into wow's addon folder like all the others but I get some kind of Ace2 library error when the interface loads.

(Edit): Doesn't look like any other work on it needs to be done so there you go. I rewrote them a little, I apologise if they're not all that good. I had to rewrite them a bit to match them up size-wise with the rest of the cadences. So they're in there anyway, I will note however that this release is drycoded as I haven't had a chance to test it yet. It should be okay since it's just a table of entries but one never knows.

The humour value alone is why it had to make a return.

My favourite thing to do with it is to sit around fishing whilst singing Katyusha. I've had one or two people do a drive-by WTF at it, which makes it all worthwhile. I really need to throw in more Russian folk songs for my merry Draenei to chant along to.

As for the requested feature, that's not a problem at all. I'm not sure what the min/max/step of it should be though, probably 0 for the minimum to have an immediate reaction on AFK. If I have a step of 1 and a max of something like 380, it's going to be hell's work to set on a slider, since sliders get incredibly fiddly when they have a large set of numbers. So that's why I'm asking what your opinion is, what should the max be and what should the step be? What would you be comfortable with?

(Edit)

I'm coding in a step of 5 and a max of 240 at the moment, I can always change it later (before/after release) if need be.
