LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

The two quests are:
The Sacred Flame &
Steelsnap

It's a great addon nonetheless.
Looking into it, looks like they got missed in the last parse. Thanks for the report.

Look in LightHeaded.lua

There's a number of interesting functions. Also you can look at BEQL or some other addon that grabs information. It really depends on what you're trying to do, use the frame, or get at the information.

Thank you. I did some reading and found out my CTCore was the mod I was using to do this. I apologize I thought it was built into this mod.

(dungeon) is not part of the quest name, and if some addon is including it then that's the cause of your issues. You can verify this with the following:

/script ChatFrame1:AddMessage(LightHeaded:GetQuestInfo("Dreadsteed of Xoroth", 60))

This returns the number 7361, as it should. The same works for Hearts of the Pure. In short, you have something else that's causing this issue.

You download an addon that adds quest levels to the quest log, such as Levelator.

Superb Add on Thanks
Please provide either a title/level pair, or a quest id from wowhead, and I'll look into it.

yeah sorry. Im fairly new to coding and from what i knew, and from the way i tough of doing it, it didnt look that hard.

I didn't know we could do that with the API, i will look it up and try to right a plugin for that.

Im sorry if my post were taken in a bad way, it wasnt at all. I think LightHeaded is a great addons, and TomTom too . I just wanted to help you add a feature that some ppl like me wanted, but i totally understand ur point and i like i said ill look into the API .

No, at the moment I have no plans to do this sort of thing. Feel free to write a LightHeaded_UberQuest addon that you can host right here on wowinterface.com, so its accessible to all of the users.

Correct. My time is better spent making sure that the relationship with wowhead stays intact, that I can keep up with parsing, and work on my other addons. I barely have the time I do right now to manage the simple codebase I already have. As soon as I start "supporting" other things in my addon, there's more I have to do to maintain that support.

Your addon looks great and I would love to use it , but it seems that you don't support it being used with Party Quests and the Cosmos author is on hiatus.
Following is my question to Cosmos and their reply regarding Lightheaded.

My question to Cosmos regarding Lightheaded Support 10-17-07
-----
Morac suggest using Lightheaded for information on quests, but I have not been able to get this to work with Party Quests. Does Party Quests support Lightheaded being used?
Author of Lightheaded says there is little she can do to support Party Quests.
The notes in Lightheaded say that it will work with any quest log that uses QuestLogFrame. I am not sure if Party Quests uses that.

If Party Quests is not able to use Lightheaded I would love to see it be able to as I group with a great many people that use Party Quest. It would be a problem to have to get everyone to change to a quest log that supported Lightheaded.
----------------------
Response from Morac 10-17-07
Lightheaded doesn't currently work with PartyQuests. I was going to add support for it (and Mobmap), but I've kind of taken a hiatus from WoW at the moment so even if I did add it, I'd have no way of testing it.

I am on hiatus.
Then I suggest you find someone who is willing to take up adding the support, or write a simple addon yourself which adds it. I will gladly accept addons to LightHeaded, such as LightHeaded_PartyQuests which does the following:

Detaches Lightheaded using API
Places it near PartyQuests so its usable
Makes it so changing the quest in PQ changes the LH data.

I just ask that:
1.) It's hosted here, as an addon to LightHeaded, so everything is in one place
2.) That its not done in LightHeaded itself, because its not necessary.

I don't think it should be like that. Its not UberQuest getting anchored to the LightHeaded frame. UberQuest author can't do anything about that unless he rewrote the entire addon and used the default questlogframe instead of a custom one.

It simple to add other questlogs support with a code similar to what i posted.
You just need the frame their using.

You think its easy. You're wrong. You also think that using teh LH data is hard, you're wrong there as well.

Even simpler, you make it a local. like "local anchor = "QuestLogFrame"", and like that, users could easiliy manually edit one line in the lua and make lightheaded work with their fav questlog mod.

or another solution would be that, when the LH frame in "unattached", it pops when you select a quest, instead of poping when the questlogframe opens.
Like that ppl with other Questlog mod could still use LH.

maybe because we want to use LightHeaded and don't want to change our questlog to default or DoubleWide...
You don't need to use the default or DoubleWide.. There are at least two other addons that have support for LightHeaded WITHOUT using my frame. They simply use the well defined API to pull the data which is displayed themselves.

Regardless of what you think is or isn't the right way, this is how it is simply because I can't be assed to put any more time in supporting things that I don't use, and would suck up more of my extremely limited time.

Limits.. I have them.

	if LightHeadedFrame then
		return
	end

	-- custom questlog support
	if UberQuest and UberQuest_Details then
		anchor = "UberQuest_Details"
	else
		anchor = "QuestLogFrame"
	end

	local lhframe = CreateFrame("Frame", "LightHeadedFrame", getglobal(anchor))

-- and change all others "QuestLogFrame" to "anchor"(without quote) in the file.
this will anchor LH to UberQuest if the mod is loaded, otherwise to default questlog.
just need to add the other quest logs.

Note: The LH frame wont be exactly same height as ur questlog. And you need to open/close the LH frame to update its content for the quest ur watching, but still, i can use LH with UberQuest so im pretty happy
Great, write a plugin. For all the reasons you state here, this is EXACTLY why I wont' start supporting off-shot quest logs in LightHeaded. Its an absolute nightmare.
