LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

I am getting spammed with Lightheaded info in my General chat window.
Its about Storing and Retreiving QID Offsets.
Debug is already turned off in the LH menu.
How can I turn this spam off?

Edit: Ok I restarted the game and now its better.

And you still haven't confirmed that you have disabled every single addon. I ask very little here.

Again, this is incredibly hard to believe. Click 'Disable All', disable all addons, then enable LightHeaded. You will see it functions properly in this case. THe issue you are experiencing is a race condition with the SelectQuestLogEntry() function.

I thought it was due to EveryQuest so completely removed that and all saved variables and for a while the problem seemed to disappear. It is now though back. Every time I open up my quest log FPS drops to about 5, close the quest log and all is fine again. The only add-on I think I have that interacts with the Quest log is Tom Tom and would doubt that is the issue.

I have used 4.0.1 to really trim back on add-ons. I only use add-ons that have been updated for 4.0.1.

Any other ideas on what is causing the issue?

Thanks for the info. Not surprised a library breaks it was just more confused only broke when playing a shammy. Found an alpha version of LibQuixote (r91 released 10 days ago) on Wowace and replaced the version in QuestFu with this and now all works fine.

In addition, if you're selecting a quest that has lots of comments or information, that takes time to load as well. This however is not a constant FPS drop, it's a one-time thing that recovers as soon as the work is done and it should not be severe.

It is almost certain that you are using an addon that you're not aware is using the SelectQuestLogEntry() WoW API function. Improper use of this function can severely impact the performance of your client, since it is what LightHeaded uses (in part) to update the LH frame.

A simple test is disabling all other addons, literally, every single one. Click 'Disable all' and then enable the LightHeaded addons. If you cannot reproduce the issue, then its an issue with integration with another addon, and we can start looking for the culprit.

Hope that helps! [/b]
Since posting the message have been doing some testing and it really is very strange.

The issue only occurs on my Shammy and I have a level 80 of every class so tested them all. I had recently updated ShockAndAwe which was my only shammy specific add-on so was hoping that was the issue but rolling back to previous release and then removing it didn't fix the issue. So then literally did start with just Lightheaded enabled and worked my way through every add-on to find the culprit. I have found the culprit and it is QuestFu. So with just LightHeaded, Fubar 3.6 and QuestFu enabled can replicate the issue every time on the Shammy and it is a constant frame loss to about 5fps any time I open up the quest log. I then loaded in the other toons with just these 3 add-ons enabled and never suffered any frame loss. So the culprit definitely appears to be QuestFu and for some very strange reason only occurs for a Shammy which really has me confused!

The only folders that need to wind up in Interface\AddOns are the ones that begin with LightHeaded. The Data folder actually goes under LightHeaded\Data.

I hope that, combined with the below response to you, helps.

i was an EveryQuest user, but the FPS glitch, and the less recent glitch that prevented removing quests from the log, or locking you out of choosing quest rewards (pre 4.0.1) was annoying, and only on some alts.

i switched to QuestGuru, the history tab is helpful for loremaster backtracking, and helped with getting EK done last week (~110 left on kalim), and there's the achievement watcher, well, it's a nice change.

you want to open up your addons folder, and you should see the LightHeaded folder, and the 7 other folders below it.

if you see a folder called LightHeaded-r316, then you've unpacked the archive into it's own folder, you want to cut and paste the folders inside the -r316 folder, and paste them into the main Addons folder along with the others.

if you don't see anything at all in the addon folder, it's probably the wrong folder you're looking in. if the only thing in there is the lightheaded folders, it's also probably the wrong folder

if you're using vista/Win7, check C:\Users\<your windows account name> \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

you may have to unhide folders to see the AppData folder in your profile folder, it's typically hidden. to view hidden files:
Start->Control Panel->Appearance->Personalization->Folder Options->View tab->Advanced->click Show hidden files and folders->click OK. or open up explorer tools, folder options, view tab, and 'show hidden files and folders, click OK and OK to confirm/save if the UAC warning pops up.

then move the 8 folders into the addons folder from the old addons folder to the proper location, and open up WoW

You are right, there is going to be no more updates to Loremaster. However there is an update to Everyquest. Maybe it will solve your problem.

Everyquest is updated here: http://static.wowace.com/content/fil...Quest-r168.zip

Thank you for the information and investigation, Cladhaire. I'll pursue the issue further with the author of EveryQuest.
