LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

great mod so far. You know what would make it SMOKIN? When you click the coords, it adds the waypoint to cartographer, which then shows a sweet crazy taxi arrow to the coords.

Hey thanks, that was the problem. interestingly I have two addons that add quest levels, nQuestLog and Minimalist. I had nQuestLog before I got Lightheaded and everything was fine, it was minimalist that caused the conflict. so something with the way nQuestLog adds quest levels allows it to work with Lightheaded.

Anyway, thanks for the great addon. It's almost perfect. if I could think of one thing to improve it, it would be to have some way to add coordinates in the comments to the cartographer waypoint addon. I see that you can already parse for coordinates because they're colored green, so it shouldnt be too hard to then send the command /way xx,yy qyestname.

That's just a wish though, its great as it is. Thanks for all your work.

Do you have an addon that displays the quest level in the quest log, if so disable it, in this version LH will not work with it.

Hey,

Well I have a Monkey tool that open my quests in a frame other than my regular blizzard quest log. It does NOT work from there, I have to hit L to bring up my quest log then click on the title of the quest and it shows the lightheaded info off to side, also you can click on the posters name in green on my sceen in the lightheaded comment frame and get a window with that person comment u can move around and close all the other stuff.

VERY VERY NICE ADDON!

For the record, I'll be adding code that tries to strip the basic quest level format, which should help with a number of these addons, like EQL and Minimalist. It will check for the existance of names like "[XX] Quest Title Here", and strip the prefix if it exists. Hopefully this will solve a number of problems people have been having.

Clicking on the quest name in MonkeyQuest should bring up the quest log . From their you click on the quest name.

Maybe you dont have the preference to open the quest log when you clikc on the quest name in MonkeyQuest turned on.

Oh and EQL is never going to work with this addon - EQL hooks into Blizzard's quest log functions and changes the expected return variables that most quest addons relie on to do their work.

IE

Monkey Quest works like this

Request quest data => format it off screen => display it in MQL

MQ expects data to be returned similar to this (Questname,Questlevel,QuestDifficulty ...etc)

EQL works like this

Patch Blizz's quest functions => Gets displayed in Blizz's quest log

This is why MQ gets confused when you enable EQL with it - it's get data back that to it is corrupted. So when it goes to display it it gets gooble gook and MQ stops working.

Unless of course EQL has changed the way it works to not patch Blizz's internal quest log features . An affair I will have to investigate when I got home from my Burger Dinner of the week (mmmmmm burger)

Has anyone been able to get this to work with Extended Quest Log?

After I installed this addon, when I click on a Quest title my entire UI freezes. I have to control-alt-delete and kill the WoW process.

Thanks!

I changed from Wowhead_Quests over to Lightheaded at the authors recommendation. So far, this is an excellent mod.
So, if this questions has been ask and I missed it in the comments, Sorry.

But is there a key modifier available so that the info windows only show up with the press of a modifier key (alt, ctrl etc.).

I ask only because I do not need the information every time I open a quest in QuestFU or default log.

Love the mod,
Willtock

Howdy

Indeed I had a couple addons that wre hindering Lightheaded to work at all and would show the "blank" pane, I disabled these addons and now Lightheaded is showing data now. I am looking forward to see this addon grow in functionality and player base.

Tip:
If you have any other addons that change, add or manipulate the default quest log in anyway and you get a "blank" pane from lightheaded you need to disable those addons until you find the culprit, only use the questlog addons that are in the Authors list that say "compatible" until such features are fixed.

Well, if you're familiar with my addons, you know I don't do the whole "massive hack changes" thing. Ever. This also has nothing to do with non-alpha characters, since MANY quests have non-alpha characters in them in a number of places.

The issues are:
A) the many people who might like to try this, but find they "can't get it working" due to having any of the many quest level mods installed, yet not knowing that such mods cause LightHeaded not to work. But some more info in the description rather than the user comments (from which I personally saw the issue detailed) might alleviate this issue.
I agree, this would help. I'd also like to find _something_ to make it work, but its not an easy problem.
B) not being able to see the levels w/o having to click the quests first, then looking in the window. Doing those steps takes longer than having the levels showing in the default log. You also cannot get an instant comparative level ranking of the quests you have. Minor issue for some, less minor for others.
I'll be the dick who points out there's a reason for the coloring of quests, green, yellow, orange, red.. etc. I understand tho.

C) for users of the above noted Quest Level 2.6 specifically, being unable to see quest levels in NPC gossip frames (which I find incredibly convenient).
Again, they change the API.. The problem isn't how I coded my addon, its how they coded theirs. They took the easy way out, because there was no reason not to. I'm doing the best I can, with what I've been given, which is very little.

Again, I'd like a nice easy solution, but its too easy for these addons to hook the API and change the return values which is bad, mkay?

LightHeaded gives you quest levels, just doesn't put them in the link when you shift-click them.

Again, LightHeaded displays level information, not sure where the issue is.
