Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- DataStore_Stats : Fixed a lua error when doing a /reload or visiting the Great Vault (Thanks GovtGeek !).
- DataStore_Quests : Added generic GetQuestLink.
- Grids tab: Added a quest link tooltip when mousing over a quest name in the "Quests" category.
- Summary tab -> currencies : added support for the Undercoin currency.
- Fixed max level default option still at 70 instead of 80 (Thanks Evoelise !).

- DataStore_Containers : Added proper support to delete a guild bank.

- Fixed a tooltip issue that prevented "Could be stored on" message to be displayed when mousing over reagents.
- Summary tab: updated the level filter to support levels up to 80.
- Trader's Tender is now recognized as an account-wide currency, and no additional data is listed in its currency tooltip.
- Added early support for TWW currencies.
- DataStore_Currencies : Transfer of currencies is now properly supported.
- DataStore_Containers : Added support for the warband bank.

I find that with two level 80s and a couple 70+, it would be extremely helpful to be able to view this from any character on that realm, rather than have to log onto each one every day to view when/who is running Naxx that night. I'd like to second the calendar request though. Not so much accept, but if there's a way in the server to track all invites from different toons you'd know who you had to log in as to accept said invite for us crazy enough to raid on multiple toons. There's nothing for the calendar right now, and to be honest, I haven't decided yet whether I'd implement something for it or not. Not for the short term anyway, I need to finish a few other things before looking into this.

Ok i deleated everything and reunziped it. Now it all shows up. Who knows =)

You could have it screwed by not unzipping folder structure.
Often happened to users of WinZIP.

The only part seems to work in the tooltip info. There no info in the large box,like in the pics posted. As to the version the new one. Ive never tryed this mod before. Can you please explain, what exactly you're looking for so you "cant get it to show anything", and what you've tried to solve this your problem?
Most notable, it should show you additional text in tooltips listing amount of this item your chars have. At least. If you have opened your bags and visited bank at least once on every char.

And which version of addon you're using?

Here's what I can say about it. - It's 100% certain that it's not related to another addon. - It's 100% certain that the DB is not affected, and that cleaning it will not help. - I had my friend to login an alt on another realm, everything came back, he had no problem at all. - I had him to connect various alts on the same realm but in different zones, where there are almost no people connected (Shattrath, starting zones, etc..), he had no problem at all. - He logged in the character on which he initially had the problem (in Northrend, at prime time), and the problem came back. After 1h30 of various tests, the problem went away by itself. I asked him to gather some info for me, to test if all frames had been created properly, and tables correctly populated, but I couldn't find any recurring pattern. It's certain that game conditions impact Altoholic, and that it's an issue I'll have to address, but due to the rarity of this problem, it may take time before I fix it. I just wanted to provide you guys with some feedback about what I have discovered, it's not much, but it's hopefully a step in the right direction. @Night0wl: I'll have a look at your suggestion and see what I can do about it.

I think a guild members shared database of LFG players reputations would be nice.

Just like the addon doiknowyou, but might be make it simpler. Just a note of a certain player<guildname>class.

note can be limited to 225 char actors to preserve database size.

I tried armory, and indeed, there are a few things that are common to both addons, but what makes the difference in my opinion is that Altoholic puts information in parallel (I like the bag usage pane a lot, for instance, I used to do that in excel before coding the addon ..). Other than that, I think it's a matter of taste

If there are things you'd like to see in Altoholic, let me know, I'm open to suggestions.

Your reports also give me something to work on, so I'll investigate it today. Edit: I've made a few tests, couldn't reproduce the issue in normal use, so I cheated a bit and cleaned a few tables on the fly to see how the addon would react.. I think I found a potential risk and changed a few lines which should hopefully prevent this. Can you guys confirm me that only the 4 primary panes were affected (account summary, bag usage, skills & activity ) ? @kasca: .. error when unzipping the archive ?? Well, I would say, either download it again from here, or go to curse just for the download. Not hundreds, only maybe a dozen and some. Here's the kicker...

- Loaded game, noticed Altoholic wasn't displaying info.
- Tried /console reloadui - no change.
- Exited game, restarted - no change.
- Exited game, removed SV file, restarted - no change! (this one got me... I'd never seen it not display any info (for the current character obviously) after a DB reset)
- Tried /console reloadui - fixed.

Very weird. It occurred to me after the SV file removable didn't work, that I was going to start removing other add-ons to see if there was a conflict, but as you can see, the problem remedied itself before I got to that point. It is indeed a tricky problem to track down (and reproduce!).

If/when it happens again, the first thing I'm going to do it removing add-ons. Assuming the mere act of restarting WoW isn't "fixing" Altoholic sometimes, which could give false positives...

I reported this issue a while back, but since then, I have seen it very little. I ended up removing all of my data and reloading everything from scratch, and it was still happening nearly all the time. Even with Altoholic as the only mod loaded. Since the v3.0.006 release, I have seen it once, but after logging out and back in, it was fine. I am not sure what more to try... Since it's very intermittent, it's hard to try to nail down, and I know there are no errors shown.
