Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua



About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- DataStore_Crafts: The module is now shared between all versions of the game.
- This concludes the conversion of all DataStore modules to make them compatible with all versions.

- DataStore_Containers: Fixed COMMON_NUM_BAG_SLOTS to be NUM_BAG_SLOTS + 1 for retail, and NUM_BAG_SLOTS for non-retail, instead of the opposite.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)
- DataStore_Containers: Removed an invalid test when closing a bank frame.

No, the pane didn't pop on its own. I just had a brief instance where I activated Altoholic on a toon, reloaded the UI, and saw no data for any characters in the summary pane. It fixed itself with a full logout/login, but it made me wonder if it might be related to reload versus full login.

I didn't snag the error or anything, however. Just did a clean reinstall of WoW (well, of everything actually) and didn't have Bugsack up yet. I'll let you know if it comes up again.

It actually depends, some information is updated at specific moments (for instance: when you manually open the altoholic window), while some other is updated when certain events are triggered by the game (BAG_UPDATE will provoke a .. bag update).

So yes, there are data that are updated only at login, and sometimes a reloadui will not be enough. That said, I've been testing this for quite a long time now and there should normally be no problem on that side, as I'm using reloadui all the time (and I mean ALL THE TIME).

However, the summary pane should never pop by itself, as it's not bound to any event. If you can give me more details, I can check if there's anything in particular that I can work on.

Hello again Thaoky,

I just had a thought: Is there any data that is only loaded on login, but not when the UI is reloaded? I normally enable/disable addons (with ACP addon) in-game and then reload the UI, and I think I've done that every time I've encountered a problem with Altoholic.

Planned, should be implemented in a little while.. development pace is a bit slow these days as I'm really busy, but I keep adding features bit by bit.. I'm currently working on adding sort buttons in the various panes.

Thanks so much. Got it to work... now then. This is an odd request... But it'd make life much easier.

Can you implement a toggle for which guild banks to show in the tooltip? See, I like being able to search the gbank... but I don't have access to all that and it's a little misleading.

Thanks so much for all your hard work on one of my favorite mods.

Just tested on my machine, it works fine, but I think I understand what happened.. I update the "isResting" property when the event is triggered by the game, which happens when you enter/leave an inn. But for a low level character like your level 3, you've basically never triggered it, and I consider that the "isResting" property is true by default (which I'll change).

It's normal that you don't see it in the SV file when you're out, as nil values are not saved. So it's a very small bug on my side, just enter an inn once with your level 3 and it will be correct. Will be fixed in next version

edit: if you want to fix it right away, edit the file core.lua, and around line 125 you'll see:

isResting = true,

change it to isResting = nil, (keep the comma at the end)

Delete the SV file to be sure, and the problem should be fixed.

Yes, that was missing from him (and a few other characters actually, but all were resting so I didn't notice).

I reset the file and tested with my level-8 hunter. He started out parked in an inn. (I logged out and checked the file at each change.)
- Log in and out, no isResting property
- Went out of inn: no isResting property
- Went back inside: ["isResting"] = 1
- Went back out: isResting disappeared
- Went back in: ["isResting"] = 1
Also logged back onto my mage, and he had no isResting property either.

Hopefully that helps you out a bit.

As a side thought, perhaps a new feature would be an indicator on the summary screen showing whether a character is resting or not. Probably could just use the resting icon, and maybe a gray icon if not resting, with no icon for 70s.

I haven't checked that part of the code for a while, and there is one thing I suspect that may go wrong.

Can you check one thing for me please ? in the altoholic.lua in savedvariables, look for the character you mentioned, and under :

["char"]
["your_charname"]

There should be a property: isResting = nil,
If it isn't there, that may be due to a savedvariables file not being reset for a long time. I suspect a small bug in Ace2 DB when the structure of the savedvariable file changes without actually resetting the data. If this is so, then I suggest you clean this file and reload your characters, if not, then there's a bug in my code x)

I'll test that tonight anyway.

Do you have other addons that play with the tooltip ? It's probably due to that. A small screenshot may help too

edit: nevermind, dont post a screenshot, I just saw that I had the same problem.. and the weird thing is that it happens only on certain flowers and not on others .. I'm looking at this right now.

First off I freaking LOVE this mod, I have 16 toons spread across four severs and having this mod has made my life SO much easier to keep track of everything. Anywho, last night I had updated from 2.4.013 to 2.4.015 and the only thing I've seen so far is when I hover over a node or a herb that was in my bags when I updated to .015, the tooltip comes up with how many I have in my Guild bank and in my bags/bank twice

There's your mistake. The database file is also called altoholic.lua but is located somewhere else:

WTF / Account / Your_account / SavedVariables / Altoholic.lua

The database has the same format in latest version on WAU as the one available here. What is it exactly that you're trying to do ? And what's going wrong ? If you're looking at erasing some data, that's nothing we can't overcome. Explain me what you do, and I'll help you where you go wrong.
