Note: There's been some functionality changes to Halp! since the last (long ago) update. See below:
For those of us that actually defend nodes in Battlegrounds, you've probably experienced trying to type out "inc lm" while simultaneously trying not to die to the Rogu... er, Death Knight who just jumped you. What tends to happen is that one of those goals usually doesn't get fulfilled, and this is what Halp! tries to remedy.
Halp! allows you to bind a key that will send a request to battleground chat asking for help without having to type anything out. A second key is availiable to alert your team members that you no longer need help. Halp! should work in any battleground, but it will not work in Wintergrasp. Note that I don't PvP much anymore, so you may encounter situations where Halp! doesn't seem to work properly. Please report those in the comments and I'll get it fixed.
Some people have complained that Halp! didn't let you specify how many enemies are incoming. I wanted to implement that without breaking the simple functionality, so here's what I did:
- pressing the "Ask for Halp!" keybind will no longer immediately send a message
- instead, your message is queued and will be sent after the keybind has not been pressed for a brief period of time
- however, each time you press the bind, Halp! increases the enemy counter
- thus, hitting the key three times in quick succession will send one message informing your team that three enemies are incoming to your location.
- the "area clear" bind will remove any pending Halp! messages and send a message to your team informing them that the situation is under control
There are no GUI options or slash commands for Halp! If you want to change the message delay, line 6 in "halp.lua" should contain the line "local delay = 1". Simply change the 1 to whatever number you desire, in seconds.
