EventAlert  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.7.6
by: CurtisTheGreat [More]

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

This mod tracks the following events/procs:

  • Death Knight
    • Cinderglacier (Runeforging)
    • Dark Transformation
    • Killing Machine
    • Rime (Freezing Fog)

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

4.7.6
Bugfix: Fixed problem with spell charges not showing up on alerts.
Bugfix: Fixed problem with alerts not showing when options changed without a reload.
Change: Added option to show/hide spell charges.

To see the full change log, view the changelog.txt file included in the EventAlert zip file.

Thanks for more detail. I'm still working on duplicating this, but this moves me a bit closer. Thank you.

Hello.
I'd like to know how to do the following:
1. When I add a debuff (say Sated), it doesn't show the duration. Duration is only shown for buffs (say procs). How to enable duration for debuffs too?
2. How to add a debuff on my target? Say I'm a shaman and want to see Flame Shock timer on boss (I know there are other addons that do it, but I really love the way EA shows it).
3. Can I by any chance make a second buff frame and position it differently from the main one?

P.S. I'm usually able to do what I need in lua files if it's easy, since I'm a programmer, but don't know lua deeply, so if you could guide me a bit that would be wonderful

All three of those things aren't programmed into EventAlert. But, they should be fairly easy to bring into EA. The only issue, is that EA wasn't really designed to do that, and I'm worried that adding those things would add some serious overhead. Because of that, they most likely won't make it into EA.

But, to get you started, check out line 130 of EventAlert.lua. That line is basically saying "if the spell that just popped up into the combat log is a spell effecting this player and not someone else, then do everything after this...". And to see what all the "arg" variables are, check this out:
http://www.wowwiki.com/COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED

Hopefully that will at least get you close to the info you need to get started making things work the way you want them.

I'm sorry I have to tell you, but it seems the error still occurs with the new version. I just ran a few tests and while it happens less often (took me almost 2 dungeons to get it once), it still does.

However I think the overall behaviour of the bug changed a little. The FoF timer and icon are now always properly shown while you have at least one charge. When you fired off all charges or the buff runs out, the timer will still freeze with the icon shown.

In addition to that it seems that the Fireball! proc now does the same thing every now and then, however this one tends to reset itself properly after another Fireball! proc.

Well, at least we are closer! haha

I appreciate the report. So far, I still can't replicate the problem. Mind dropping me a private message here or message me on real ID (curtis AT fischerfam DOT net) so I can set up some times to test with you?

Thanks!

When you try and move the icon from the icon options and it's still locked, you should be getting an error message in your chat window. I'll check and make sure it's still doing that and not bugging.

In the mean time:

Type: /ea opt
Click the icon options button.
Unlock the icon, so you can move it. (It's a checkbox at the top of the icon options window.)
Move the icon where you want it to be.
Re-lock the icon so you don't end up moving it around on accident.

Would EventAlert be able to track some important buffs of enemy as well as my own buff? For example, when fighting with a warrior, an alert would jump out when he uses magic reflection. Is it possilble for EA?

It is possible, yes... but not something I would prob add. That is quite a bit of overhead, and the reason being is that I would have to dissect the entire combat log, the entire time you are in combat, to watch for something like that. That's a monster task for the addon to take on.

I will toy with it some and test memory levels and such, but I wouldn't count on something like that getting added.

Missing spells

This is aimed at DK's, I have been out of town for a week and I had a list of the missing spells/procs but I don't have that list anymore. However there are 2 that do come to mind that need to be added to your list. They are Runeforged procs 1. Fallen Crusder 2. Razorice. Reasons these 2 need to be added is your current one you have already listed is used for lvling a DK until that DK can learn the 2 I listed. For raiding purposes, especially in the dps area, Fallen Crusader and Razorice are your bis enchants for dps DK's. And if others don't agree, who cares, they are entitled to their opinion and just having the option for all available spells/procs in this addon would be great. Lastly, I am very pleased you brought this back. One of the best addons I have come across.

**Update** Looked up the spells that proc from Fallen Crusader - Spell ID 53365 and from Razorice - Spell ID 50401. Also missing is talent from Unholy Tree - Blood-Caked Blade Spell ID that procs from that is 50463. From the Frost Tree - Icy Talons (assuming you use 5/5 points) Spell ID 58578.

Yes, its totally unneeded in this. This is a proc alert mod (for your own procs), not an enemy-cast-alert mod.

Afflicted3 can handle enemy cast alerts for PvP, as can Witchcraft & others. For PvE casting alerts, BigWigs & DeadlyBossMods, along with Witchcraft above (among others).

For more PvP-specific mods, check out the PvP/Arena/BattleGrounds mod section on this site.

Like the previous poster, you don't seem to understand the purpose of proc alert mods like Event Alert. Having the author spend time adding code to throw up alerts for procs that you gain no benefit from knowing about is a complete waste of time.

Proc alert mods...alert you to procs that you can benefit from responding to. For example for Death Knights, Freezing Fog (use Howling Blast without consuming any runes), Killing Machine ("your melee attacks have a chance to make your next Icy Touch, Howling Blast or Frost Strike a critical strike.") & questionably Cinderglacier ("increase the damage by 20% for your next 2 attacks that deal Frost or Shadow damage").

Those are abilities that you should to respond to by doing something other than what you are currently doing. Cast a different spell when they proc, etc..

What possible benefit is there of knowing when Razorice, Fallen Crusader, Blood-Caked Blade & Icy Talons proc, other than "cool, they proced"? Could you explain?

There are a giant ton of different things that proc in the game. Talents, skills, items, etc.. The only ones that a proc alert mod needs to alert to are ones that are of benefit for the player to know, so they can take additional action based on that knowledge (cast a different spell, etc.). If you really want alerts to when everything in the game procs, regardless of the usefulness of that info...find a buff mod that allows you to make your buffs really, really large .

With all spells that are "missing" from the mod that you want, remember I added the ability to add your own spells to EventAlert.

Type /ea opt and click on the custom alerts button. You can add spell IDs in there.

Will have to check that out and get back with you on if there are any issues ie. lua errors with doing so. Thank you for the great response unlike the previous one. Great to get responses from the actual Author. Keep up the great work on this addon.

Aww darn. Fine authors such as CurtisTheGreat try to accomodate and/or respond to people's requests in various diplomatic ways, no matter how out of range they may be. As I'm not the author of this, diplomacy for useless requests is not something I have to worry about . Can thus temper and/or point out what would be a waste of coding time.

Speaking of lack of diplomacy, the tipping point in your original post was this: "And if others don't agree, who cares, they are entitled to their opinion..." . Which is an attempt to silence debate & is in fact essentially saying: "Who cares if my request for these hard-coded procs is useless for nearly all users, I want it no matter what anyone says". Heh.

If you instead offered valid reasons (if there are any) as to why a proc alert mod should alert you to procs like Rune of the Fallen Crusader (or similar), things might be different. GL.

Ah yes, completely forgot about being able to easily add your own spell IDs in this .

Have just moved back to this from GoodNewsEveryone and like most people, don't need to be alerted to procs that are not currently hard-coded in this. For those who do like being alerted like that for whatever reasons, though, the option is there.
