Neuron  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.4.18
by: Soyier, Maul

Neuron development is on an indefinite hiatus upon the launch of WoW 10.0. If you are interested in helping with development efforts to push the project forward into Dragonflight, please reach out to Soyier.

Introduction:
Neuron is a full featured action Bar addon for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Important Note: Neuron tentatively works with World of Warcraft: Classic and The Burning Crusade: Classic, but none of our developers actively play Classic, so support and bug fixes are offered without any guarantee. Realistically, many bugs in Classic require max level characters to debug, and none of us have any such characters. Outside help with Classic is always welcome!

Example:

Theme Support:
Neuron inherits all theming courtesy of the Masque addon. Neuron has full Masque compatibility, and the theming options found in Masque are quite in-depth, not to mention the robust portfolio of skins made to support Masque. In short, you can make your bars look any way you like!

Features:
  • Neuron features an unlimited number of macros. You can create as many bars/buttons as you want/need per character!
  • Are you a clicker extraordinaire? As many buttons on the screen you want where you want, when you want!
  • Macros the size of Texas! Up to 1024 characters in length!
  • Maul's unique mouse-over key-binding system - where the mouse-over binding system was born!
  • Many other of the favorite desired bar addon features and then some!
  • And, last but not least, MASQUE support!

Graphical Editor:
Neuron contains a graphical bar editor that allows for nearly endless customization to bar shape, size, orientation, and much more! Further, Neuron has neither the limitations on max number of bars nor on the max number of buttons per bar, as you might find in addons such as Bartender4 or Dominoes.

Disclaimer:

Neuron is a fork of the amazing Ion Action Bars addon started by Connor Chenoweth aka Maul, for World of Warcraft Legion and onwards. All credit for the bulk of this addon should go to him accordingly, along with SLOKnightFall for his maintainership throughout the years. I, Soyier, take no credit for the idea or implementation of this addon prior to my adoption of the code in the Fall quarter of 2017.

In short, Neuron is the new official version of Ion. This page was deleted when the last maintainer quit, and is the process of being restored. Shortly this page will be rebranded as Neuron to reflect the new version. In the meanwhile, you are safe downloading Neuron.

Also, apologies for the drama. I really didn't want you guys to have to deal with any of that. It was just majorly unfortunate that it all happened the way it did. Especially the deletion of all of these pages.

It was clearly not your fault. Thanks for staying mature through it all.

hah Thanks. :-)

I nearly lost my cool when he filed the takedown request and got Neuron removed from Curse. Fortunately, Maul was super quick to act and made everything right. He's still looking out

Hi all!

So there was a little drama, and I will just leave it as the history it now is. But I will say that the folks here at WoWInterface like Dolby and Cairenn are truly awesome.

I do not really play WoW anymore, and have left Ion to those willing to maintain and update it. Currently, that is now Soyier, who has my official a-okay on doing what he feels is best for the addon. So any changes you see, are likely ones that I have privately discussed with him and already know about.

I still monitor my addon email [email protected], so if there are any questions or concerns send them my way. If it is a bug or feature request though, best to put it here in the comments ^_^

Much thanks for all who are still dedicated to the project <3

The new version is up!

The new version is up to reflect the change in name. Just a note, I am now packaging Neuron (Ion) all in one package, including the modules. Thus, the download on this page is the only one you will need to update Neuron from here on out, and the individual module pages will not be updated further.

***Note:
Do to the name change, your Ion saved bars and profiles will not carry over. It is possible to migrate your settings manually from Ion to Neuron: "You need to go into the saved variables folder and rename all the Ion files to Neuron. The inside the files you need to replace any Ion variable reference to Neuron. Is pretty messy to do unfortunately"

That being said, I apologize for the hassle. And, while the above method may work, I take no responsibility if you end up having a bad time trying to get that to work. The official method is just to create new bars fresh.

It worked for me exactly in that way. In "G:\games\world of warcraft\WTF\Account\[account number]\SavedVariables\", I copied my Ion.lua and Ion-GUI.lua files, renamed the copies to Neuron.lua and Neuron-GUI.lua, did a case-sensitive find-replace of "Ion" with "Neuron" in those files using a text editor, loaded WoW, and finally disabled Ion and enabled Neuron for all characters in the AddOns GUI before choosing a character. It worked without a hitch. Thanks a lot for the instructions!

Remaking my entire Ion setup would be incompatible with my life.

Hi

there seem to be a lot of Lag when I mouseover the new Action Bars

it used to happen during 7.0 on Ion but it stopped
and now that I changed to the new addon its back

*EDIT* seems to have been fixed
so probably was a WoW Blizzard thing and not an addon thing

P.S. keep up the good job
just another stage in the evolution of Trinity Bars

DK bars

Had me worried for a minute. Did the Ion/Neuron changes, brought up a DK and the bars were wrong for the spec.

Turns out the nomenclature changed from Dual Spec to Multi Spec in the bar setup and it defaulted off. Changed it, and viola, it worked.

Ty

And...... now that I'm paying attention, the startup dialog says that. : )

News on update

Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't pushed a new release in a couple of weeks. Life's been busy and I've been putting most of my efforts into the GUI refresh.

Are there any small bugs/quirks/features that you guys would like to see sooner rather than later? I'm happy to work on the large scale rewrites, but I don't want you guys to get bored in the meanwhile, as larger features take lots of time.

Let me know if a list of small-ish things that I can fix/add to make your lives easier.

Well, ok

Came to check on updates and noticed things looked a little different on the main page and comments at 10. Oh no...! I go and read through all of the comments and most importantly see Maul's blessing which in all honesty is pretty much where it ends for me.

Thank you Maul for taking the time to set the record straight. And many thanks to Soyier for becoming involved, fighting through the drama, and wanting to give this addon the visibility it has long deserved. I honestly don't think I'd be playing without this addon due to how well I can customize my button layouts with it. It's indispensable for me.

And I don't want to muddy any bright spirit of the new path for Ion. Just want to give respect to Slo for having taken care of us to date. Life burdens us all. Sometimes more than others. But I'm an ex Marine who learned in the service from practicality you never leave anybody behind and you never exclude those who don't shine as bright at that particular moment. Take it easy man..

The biggest issue I have is after doing many arenas (15 or so), mousing over any buttons is extremely laggy (freezes the game for more than a whole second), making it very dangerous to move my cursor around in arena. This has caused a few losses. Anything you can do to fix that problem would really help.

Does this only happen in arenas or anywhere? Is there a Lua error to go with it?

Unfortunately, there's no lua error, or else I would have been able to fix it myself. It seems to only happen after doing many arena matches, and not after doing world quests or anything like that. It slowly increases in lag when mousing over the action buttons as I do more matches. My workaround is to reload UI, which resets it to not lagging at all. Continuing to play more arena matches increases the mouseover lag slowly again after that.

I see, can you monitor the ram usage of Neuron as this problem is happening? I'm interested in seeing if there's a memory leak somewhere
