Chatap

Version: 0.7
by: dibbe [More]

A very simple chat addon with the following features:
- Remove the need to hold down the ALT key in order to navigate the edit box with the arrow keys
- Automatic enabling of the chat log

Future plans:
This addon's primary purpose is to be as simple as possible, while disabling the annoying requirement to hold down ALT while editing your chat messages. There's a million very, very good heavy weight chat addons out there (Prat & similar) for those that want more.
One feature I am considering though, is tidying up the channel and player name part of chat messages, so that:
[2. Trade] [Foo]: Buying boost in Dead Mines paying 26 copper!
would become something like:
[2] Foo: Buying boost in Dead Mines paying 26 copper!

This would however introduce a step where each line that goes to the chat window has to be parsed and modified. I may simply decide that the feature is not worth it (it is honestly a bit more processing than I want the addon to do). Comments on the topic are welcome.

Chatap 0.7
* Changing character encoding of source files (UTF-8 DOS)
Chatap 0.6
* Repackaging
Chatap 0.4
* Removed timestamps, as this feature is part of Blizzard UI.

Class color names are a default feature implemented by Blizzard.

Go to the chat window settings and check the 'Show Class Color' boxes for the channels you want the colors to be used with.

Thank you for the clarification neenee.

tinyu, having up & down arrows cycle through previous messages already works. That's part of the reason for the "Remove the need to hold down the ALT key in order to navigate the edit box with the arrow keys" feature.

I also just realised that the WoW UI has timestamps builtin now, so I'm actually going to remove that feature soon (making the addon even smaller).

I don't know if I am missing something, but this doesn't appear to show up in the addons list of either the wowinterface updater or WoW itself.

I've looked through all of the addons I have and I cannot, despite that this addon is indeed in my interface folder - as it should be, see it.

Any reason, that this might be happening? I tried a different addon, that I had also not used before, at the same time. That does seem to show up.

This has some interesting features, so I hope to find out what I have / have not done or what needs to happen.

Thanks.

This sounds odd, to say the least. The only thing I can think of is that it's written on a unix system, so the line endings of the source files is different from average Windows files. As far as I know, this is usually not a problem (I'm fairly sure I've seen that work before).

What operating system are you on, jlrm365? I'll see if I can dig up a friend with such a machine and check.

[Edit]: I've repackaged the addon (a couple of times, thus the bump of version number). If my theory is right (which I honestly doubt) this will solve your problem, jlrm365. I wouldn't hold my breath though...
It's the 0.7 version you're after. It's still pending approval at the moment I'm writing this comment.

[Edit 2]: While repackaging I changed the name of the directory it unpacks to from Chatap-X.Y (where X.Y is version number) to simply Chatap (which is generally the style). So remember to remove the old directory, if your updater doesn't do that for you.
