RepByZone  Updated this week!

Version: 1.34.1
by: myrroddin [More]

RepByZone

As you wander around zones, your reputation bar will switch depending on where you are, not by which quest gave you a faction bump.

Inspired by:
Diplomancer by Phanx and Talyrius

Supports:
  • Zones by faction: Stormwind, Darkspear Trolls, Gnomeregan Exiles, Orgrimmar, etc.
  • Instances by faction: Hydraxian Waterlords, Brood of Nozdormu, etc
  • Battlegrounds by faction: Silverpike Guard, Warsong Outriders, etc
  • Subzones by faction: several little areas in various zones have pockets of faction hubs
  • WoD Bodyguards' reputations can be watched instead of zone reputations
  • Wrath and retail support equipped capital city tabards while in dungeons
  • Toggle on/off switching watched factions while you are taking taxi flights
  • If you haven't discovered a zone reputation or there isn't one, select a default fallback watched reputation
  • Some classes or races have an associated reputation, which you can use instead of the default fallback reputation

Open the options:
  • /rbz
  • /repbyzone
  • ESC > Interface > AddOns > RepByZone

Localization:
RepByZone has its own localizations and uses LibAboutPanel-2.0's.

Known Issues:
  • In some rare cases, characters have not learned their racial or class reputation because they have not interacted with an NPC from that faction. This causes the Default Watched Reputation menu to have nothing selected. For example, my Rogue has never interacted with Ravenholdt. I could go down the rabbit hole and provide workarounds, but upon testing, this proved to be a bad idea. Please check this menu when you first log into a character, and if required, select a Default Watched Reputation if you wish. Not selecting one will do no harm, and once your character learns the reputation, RepByZone will fix itself.
  • It is not possible to display zone or subzone data for reputations the character has not yet discovered. Examples would be Gurubashi Arena and Bloodsail Buccaneers faction, or Arathi Highlands and Wildhammer Clan faction. Once a character gains or loses any amount of reputation with that faction and moves around the zone, RBZ will update. Discovering the faction may require the character to explore other zones or even continents.

RepByZone
1.34.1 (2024-03-24)
Full Changelog Previous Releases
  • [Wrath] & {Retail] Catch possible error when Oracles and Frenzyheart have the same value
  • [All] SDPhantom, Fizzlemizz, and Xrystal on Wowinterface helped work through some logic bombs. Thank you!
  • [All] The fallback watched reputation should be created during initialization or updated when the user changes the default watched reputation. It should not be created or updated each time the player crosses zone lines!
  • [All] Ensure the one time DB reset does not reoccur when the user resets the profile using the settings

Version 1.21.5 changelog

Version 1.21.5 has an unexpected, and incorrect, entry in the changelog: [All] First commit. It can be ignored. The other entry for 1.21.5 is correct.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Excellent!

That sounds good. Appreciate the clarification and will try to keep an eye out for any oddities.

As to the changelog - it is mighty fine as it is, in fact, it is more detailed than many of them out there.

=)

Noted that in SW the factions changes to IF when entering dwarven district - is that intended? Know some NPCs there are allied with IF, but not all. Perhaps just a trade-off, as it makes sense to have it one way or another? More curious as to your process than anything.

I'm glad you are enjoying RepByZone so far. I'm still working on it, tweaking zones and associated reputations, adding subzones, etc.
Ha ha thanks about the changelogs. I debated on being more specific, but with so many subzones, that would make each changelog a long list.

As for Stormwind and the Dwarven District, yes, that is intended, just like Tinker Town in Ironforge, plus a couple in Orgrimmar for the Trolls and Tauren. Yes, there are other races represented in the districts, but I had to make a broad call. There are more humans in that place than any other race, but it is called the "Dwarven District" so I went with the name. If I could break it down even smaller I would, but there is no API to get the well the the Gnome, or the shops with the Humans.

The point of RepByZone isn't that questgivers provide X reputation in a given area, rather RBZ is location-based. As far as I know, the quests in Dwarven District provide equal rep with Stormwind and Ironforge factions, while Tinker Town is equal for Ironforge and Gnomeregan Exiles. I was thinking about making Coldridge Valley associated with Gnomeregan Exiles, but there are just as many Dwarven NPCs and players in that area, so left it as Ironforge.

Basicially, my thought process is "if this part of the map is associated with X faction, then watch X faction." I'm always looking for corrections and updates.
