FauxMazzle [Classic]

Version: 1.0.0 Beta 2
by: Fizzlemizz [More]

Latest:
We've had a couple of downloads with no "explosive" negative feedback.
We're down to what would be considered "critical differences" between wanting keep FauxMazzle 1 retail or moving to FauxMazzle 2 retail (beta) "as is".

As both versions share the same code, Classic/Retail and Classic Only players input is greatly appreciated.

*** BETA VERSION *** - CLASSIC ONLY!!!
You've been warned! More below.

Updates
1.0.0 Beta 2

  • Fix: Using correct version of XLoot.
  • New: Answering Machine and Molinari added.
  • Fix: Minor fixes for more "unusual" configurations.
  • Fix: Removed DUF frames from the MiniButton Find action.
latest known version of addons included.

Before unzipping the folder:
EXIT THE GAME!
Make a backup copy (or two or...) of your [WoW program folder]\_classic_\Interface and [WoW program folder]\_classic_\WTF folders!

Once you have made copies of the folders I would recommend you empty the [WoW program folder]\_classic_\Interface\Addons folder and just start with the addons in the FauxMazzle package. You can re-add your others later on.

If you tried installing the current FauxMazzle retail package into Classic , delete the FauxMazzle.lua and FauxMazzle.lua.bak files if they exist in the [WoW program folder]\_classic_\WTF\Account\[your account]\SavedVariables folder.

*** Only tested on 3840x2160 Windowed Full resolution ***
Feedback on other settings greatly appreciated. Because of it's nature, Fauxmazzle might not be suitable for all screen formats (unless you like that kind of thing).

Installing:
Unzip the contents of the package to the new presumably empty [WoW program folder]\_classic_\Interface\Addons folder.

Using:
Start the game.

Now what?
If all has gone well and you're in the game, the FauxMazzle menu (not the same as the Retail FauxMazzle menu (See screenshot 2/3)) should have appeared in the upper left of your screen. It will do this for all characters new to FauxMazzle.

While you can start playing, some addons won't have fully configured. The "Reload" button on the menu should be red to indicate that FauxMazzle is recommending a reload before continuing. You can configure the various FauxMazzle options before doing this reload.

Once you've run the reload process you should be able to head out into Azeroth and do, well, Warcraft!

What if it all goes pair-shaped!
Exit the game, delete the [WoW program folder]\_classic_\Interface and [WoW program folder]\_classic_\WTF and copy back from the saved versions you created earlier.

It would help if you let me know what pair shaped looked like for you.

What's different with this FauxMazzle compared to the old (current Retail) version?
Everything and hopefully very little. This version is a complete re-write of the complete re-write of FauxMazzle 1 (Blizzard releasing Classic meant the then FauxMazzle 2 would be too hard to maintain across historical releases making this FauxMazzle 3).

The end result should be pretty much the same look and feel as the current FauxMaxzzle with some obvious omissions
  • No FauxMazzle Raid Frames: They should return some time but maybe not before gold.
  • No TrinketMenu: Looking for a replacement.
  • No Discord Art: This version doesn't use it.
  • No Scrolling Combat Texts: I'll see if the default can be made to look close enough otherwise??

Anything new?
Under the covers, very much. Each character has their own setup for pretty much everything configurable with the FauxMazzle Menu.

The Gnome:
She's back and waving again... Just not quite the same as the original. Still no plans to bring back the Mazzlegasm

Skins:
You can select for a character to have a single skin every time they login (*) or they can have a random skin either each time they login or changes at the begining of the days play. You can select skins to exclude from the random selection process meaning the character will never see those ones (the * marks the current selection).

There's a new mechanism so new skins can be created, distributed and installed as standalone addons by and for anyone rather than hard coded.

Masque:
There is a new FauxMazzle Masque skin, nothing dramatic but I hope you can at least now see the button icons.

UI Setting: Button Style and On LeftClick
These refer to the FauxMazzle MiniButton.
  • Style: you can display a dynamic 2D/3D portrait of your character or the fixed FauxMazzle FM logo.
  • LeftClick: you can swap the click actions of the button (which mouse button click opens the options/menu)
Mini Buttons:
If you have some addons with mini buttons you keep displayed you can (fingers crossed) have FauxMazzle manage the placement of them between the default buttons.
I've included BugGrabber and BugSack with the Beta package. The BugSack minibutton is considered a default if the addon is installed.

To Use:
  • Click the "Find" button.
  • Hover the mouse over a minibutton you want to manage.
  • Click the "Select" button (be careful not to mouse over another minibutton on the way back to press this).
  • Adjust the sliders so you minibutton sits where you want it too.
  • Press "Save"
Press "Cancel" to...

Chat:
Pretty much the same as before with separate font sizes selectable for the edit box and chat frames. You can also bring up the Blizzard Chat Settings frame.

You can also choose to have the FauxMazzle channel bar display permanently or only on MouseOver.

Menu:
This is new. It has three columns that can be filled (top to bottom) independently. The are no "section" labels. Drag and drop into the desired column. If you drop below the last item the selection will appear last in the column. If you drop onto another item, it will be pushed down and replaced with the dropped item inserted in its place. If a column shows as "FULL" you will have to remove (drag and "drop off") an item to make changes (something to work on at some stage).

HUD:
FauxMazzle Classic uses the FauxMazzle HUD addon (there is no more internal version). It uses the addons own profile system so if you want to have different HUD setups for different characters, you will need to create profiles for them here (multiple characters can use the same profile).

AddOns:
Where they are available through FauxMazzle, configurations for the variaous addons will be available through this list (Only DUF and DOM options ATM.). Press arrow button for the options.

Disabling the addon should prevent FauxMazzle configuring it in the future. If you want custom addon settings I would suggest creating a new profile other than "FauxMazzle" for those that support them and disable the addon in FauxMazzle.
This is the least tested section of the setup.

Copy Settings:
The Copy Settings button allows you to copy the currently open "tab" options from one character to the current character's settings. It REPLACES any settings already made. Press the button, select character to copy from, press Copy. You can copy different sets of options from different characters.

Reset:
Clears all settings for the current character and sets them to default.

Reload:
Reloads the UI forcing the game to save-to-disk any new settings made and re-start using them. For the most part this won't be required for changes made in the FauxMazzle options unless you just want to enforce a save before continuing.

New Skin:
FauxMazzle Classic comes with a new Night Elf skin. A couple of my other ones have has some minor alterations.

FATALITY:
I truly hope this doesn't happen but... Beta. If you can copy the error from the Bugsack window (Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C and past at least the beginning portion of it here along with a description of what you were trying to do when it happened it will be greatly appreciated.

My Olde Addons:
If you've gotten to this stage and are reasonably comfortable FauxMazzle is working well enough, you can copy your addons from the folder you saved earlier and paste them into the new one selecting "Skip" (Windows) so you don't overwrite any duplicates.

If you use the Twitch Client or Minion you can keep addons up-to-date as per normal. Any update to FauzMazzle will contain the latest know versions of packaged addons as at that date.

Questions/bug reports/something not mentioned missing/suggestions/comments in general:
Post them here.

What about a new version for Retail?
While the code base for FauxMazzle Classic is expected to be the same as that to replace the current Discord Art based FauxMazzle for Retail, they will be different packages and I don't recommend you try installing this package to Retail WoW.

If we get to the stage this is working well in Classic I will probably roll out a Retail version with the same limitations (missing bits) so people can choose if they want to give the new version a try there as well.

Good luck everyone!

Hi trickdaemon,
Thank you for trying FauxMazzle and for the tip. ItemRack was one of the addons that made up the original MazzleUI. I though support for it had been dropped long ago.

I'll take a look although I might create my own trinket slot buttons when I have the time.

Have Fun!

Hi Brem, Id did post a reply. While I think the cause of the bug is more an anomaly than something common it did show up a potential flaw with more "unusuall" configurations of FauxMazzle, the addons it wrangles and the dynamic per-character options available. I have a potential fix for the next update.

Thank you again for taking the time to post, it is appreciated.

Re: Re: Thank you

Hey DocEVL,
welcome back and thank you for all the work you did on the original MazzleUI keeping it running. It was always fingers crossed each patch hoping it wouldn't take long for you to work your magic. If I hadn't been able to run MazzleUI as long as you let me, I might well have not taken up making/maintaining addons so cheers to you and Mazzlefizz !

I hope you have fun with this interpretation of a small slice of what the original had to offer.

After a real long hiatus from the game (years!) I am happy to help out where I can as a former maintainer of the original MazzleUI right after Mazzle retired from the game.

Prat continues to be updated on a daily or greater basis which is a good thing. I would urge you to keep it up-to-date either via Twitch/Minion or manually. If we don't get any bugs requiring changes to FauxMazzle itself any earlier, I will refresh the Beta package with the latest Prat (and any other updated addons) once the updates slow down.

Have fun!
