Boss Notes  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.2.8
by: BethinkWoW [More]

About Boss Notes

Boss Notes provides shareable notes and other information for your guild, party and raid community. The add-on lets you take notes from your boss encounter learnings and share this information with other players. You can also use Boss Notes as a general, structured in-game notepad. In addition, Boss Notes records trash and boss abilities as well as boss emotes and provides a collection of short encounter tactics. With the powerful rule engine, you can extend your existing boss mod with additional encounter rules for custom notifications, timers, raid target icons and yells.

Boss Notes is based on a modular design. The standard distribution contains the Personal Notes, Abilities, Emotes, Tactics and Rules modules. Extension modules can provide additonal functionality.

Usage

If you have a Lightweight Data Broker (LDB) container add-on such as Titan Panel, Boss Notes shows in that container. Left-clicking the Boss Notes icon toggles the Boss Notes window; right-clicking the icon shows the options.

If you do not have an LDB container, type /bn toggle to show the Boss Notes window and /bn options to show the options.

Boss Notes provides a key binding to toggle the Boss Notes window. You may want to assign a key to that binding to gain quick access to Boss Notes.

Found a problem with BossNotes and BigWigs.
Something has changed with the zone registering.
I posted the error and message on your bug portal.
And I released a fix for it as well under patches and plugins.

Regards, Dess.

The current version at least includes these tactics. Don't know whether or not the version back when you posted this comment did, though

So based on that, the only thing I think I would like added so the option to edit received notes, edit tactics (and send), and to remove other peoples notes.

additionally, if I right click someone elses note, and click Add Note, the box opens to put in a name but the buttons dont do anything.
There are two function relating to the sharing of notes in Boss Notes.

(1) Personal Notes can be browsed by other Boss Notes users (unless they are private or syndication is disabled.) With personal notes, everybody can author notes, and everybody can browse the notes of other players. As this feature is more about "pulling" notes from another player than "pushing" notes to other players, I do not believe that a send function would be a good fit.

(2) Any type of Boss Notes information (including peronal notes) can be visibly broadcast to a channel. This is the "push" or "send" model.

Please note that these two function are completely separate. (1) is less intrusive, but requires that the other party uses Boss Notes. (2) is a classical channel broadcast that requires no addon by the other party.

Have yet to find a fix for the odd line breaks. Author hasn't been on WoWI for 2 months. I did some looking around and see that Curse.com has an updated version.

For those seeking updated version(s) - check the following:

Or do a search on Curse.com for "Boss Notes".

I liked the description of this addon but when testing it, it doesnt appear to do what it says.
From reading what I expected was the option to create notes, be it random personal notes, or tactics for each boss. I could then spam those tactics in raid or to a fellow Boss Notes user. These notes would then be recorded in their boss notes. Meaning they can then refer to them whenever they like.

On testing this addon, all I can see is :
preset tactics I cant change (and we dont use exactly)
no way to store the Raid leaders sent notes in someone elses Boss Notes

Soo, if it doesnt do this now, can it be changed to do this? what Im looking for is to get my entire guild to use an addon that allows me to send them boss tactics or recaps before each encounter, which they can save and view at any time (and make notes on). So that on future raids I dont need to waste time saying the same thing each week.

dont get me wrong, Im not trying to bash what you are doing, merely understand how its supposed to work. Being forced to use someone elses tactics isnt ideal.

Boss Notes 1.2.0 Beta 4 adds a configuration option for managing rules globally or per character. For the moment, this is an either/or decision.

Is it possible to implement an option to have abilites recorded for bosses only?
This sounds awfully like fighting symptoms instead of the cause. If you can provide any more clues as to where the lag occurs (profililng), please let me know and I will fix it. Generally speaking, the code that processes the combat log events is heavily optimized to avoid this already. Some profiling I have done previously has shown no evidence of excessive CPU use by Boss Notes. (CPU usage was way below say the boss mod and unit frames addons that were running.)

Previously, it has been indicated by some users that showing the abilities in the tooltips was actually causing the lags for them and disabling that feature fixed this. So, you may want to try this. (I have no idea why this feature causes lags for some users as it is trivial in all cases. The only expalanation I have is an inadvertent interaction with another addon.)
